10 What Are the Reasons?

Are you kidding me?!

"Wh-What is this?"

I look up at the lady in front of me who is dearly trying to hold her laughter.

Do they expect me to eat raw chicken? With blood all over?

My tongue is stuck out in disgust and hatred for my legs for bringing me to this point. Why did I agree to this mission?!

My stomach growls loudly, enhancing the chuckles behind me and filtering the mockery.

"I am not eating this"

"You said it should be what humans eat" Zadok turns back to me with his bright blue and friendly eyes.

"It should be what humans eat? Is this what humans eat?"

"So humans have deserted chicken now?"

"Do I look like I have tasted blood before?" I ask, turning my attention to the white guy amongst the three guys that got black hair.

"Haven't you tasted your blood before? When you injure?"

"What about animal blood? I am starving and this is how you entertain your guest?"

"You were a killer a moment ago"

"You said the night will depend. I am curious to know how the night goes, that's the main reason I want to eat and prepare for a fight"

Zadok smiles and nods wearily and like a grandpa would do.

"Then eat the chicken"

"I don't eat raw food, with blood all over"

"Trust me on this one"

I eye the food and then look up at Zadok. I should trust him over some blooded raw chicken that I am uncertain where the source is coming from? Is he serious? I haven't even trusted him for my life yet, and he's talking about food?

What the hell?

But...

My stomach growls again.

I am really hungry. I need something to eat if I'mma finish all these wolves.

But they seem really nice. If it's foxes or vampires, they would have eaten someone the moment they knew the reason why I came, but these...

They refused to kill me... Or is their killing method in this chicken?

Even if it is... I have to eat something, and

if I am to die, I die with it.

But their wicked souls won't go haunted.

I adjust and then take a wing of the raw food in front of me. This is very embarrassing and downgrading.

Ripping it out of the body with little strength, I raise it to analyze this thing that they have said I should eat just because of hunger.

"So what if I die eating this?"

"You won't"

"What if I do?"

"You won't"

Zadok argues with him without turning to face who he's talking to. This is a very complicated situation, and I am stuck up on it with people of this type of nature. Argh!

I take a bite...

It's... It's crunchy and... The bl-Blood tastes like tomato sauce.

Did they cook this thing and made it look like blood is all over so they'll get me scared? Why are people like this?

"This is tomato sauce and the chicken is-"

"Cooked. I told you we eat what humans eat"

I twitch my mouth as I faced the laughter I thought my enemies got tired of. I eat to my satisfaction, never attempting to ask myself about what they think of a wild eater like me, and never attempting to look up and know whether or not they are looking at me, cause it's obvious they are.

Wiping my mouth with the back of my palm, I finally look up and realize Zadok and the rest are staring at me the way they would when they saw a monster bigger than their Wolfy selves.

This is pretty shameful.

I slow down in using my hand to wipe the sauce and chicken crumbs off the corners of my mouth, trying to make a gulp not occur.

"What?"

"Is this how humans eat when they starve"

"I am to ask that question because you're wolves. Why do you tear the heads of people whenever you see them in the forest?"

"Because they offended us"

I let the corner of my lips raise slightly.

"So the child of the offender will have to pay for the parents' guilt?"

Zadok... I don't know if he just eyed me, or that's the way he looks at people he just devoured.

"Dependable on the offense of the offender"

I smile and nod stubbornly. Anyone can guess that I did it in absolute point-making.

"That's the same with humans you know. Wolves like you wiped out the clan of Kandun and out of the seven remaining children, five are up for revenge-"

"I can see through you that you are don't want to do it"

That's...

We both stare at each other for a long time, tears gathering in my eyes just staring at the namesake of my brother.

Zadok.

"Even if I am a different person... " I start, breaking the eye contact and re-connecting it seconds later.

"I must find out why my parents were killed and if they are no reason much... I'll kill those that killed them"

Zadok stares at me with calm eyes.

"Won't you need to know the main reason why they killed them?"

"That's why I said if they are no reason much"

"And if they are?"

I... I don't know...

They took everything away from me... What reason can be that much that will make the wolves get outraged and kill the whole clan of Kandun? What is that reason?

"My brother and an elder told me that I shouldn't kill innocent souls. Not even the wolves that killed them if I know they are innocent"

"And what if you don't, and they are?"

"That isn't deliberate. It's a mistake"

Everyone stares at her pitifully, as she stares down at her playing thumbs with tears gathering in her eyes. She blinks it back in with no effort placed on that and then turns to the three guys and the lady that hasn't introduced themselves yet.

"I haven't heard your names yet"

The lady smiles childishly and introduces herself cause as always...

Ladies Comes First.

"I'm Haley"

Haley... People still bear that name.

She's a wolf, I can tell she's still hooked up to the old names back then.

"I'm Gandrel," the white guy with black hair amongst them says and I nod with a faint smile.

"So... My boys call me Raph, while the ladies call me Dave"

I stare at the funny figure in front of me. He got a cool brown hairstyle on and there's this dark substance around his eyes that makes them look bold.

"Which do you prefer?"

He narrows his eyes at me and pulled his face closer to mine.

Gosh... The scent of leaves and a wild wolfy and the good journey is all over him.

"Think imma tell you my real name. Call me Nate when we're alone"

Zadok raises an eyebrow hearing the alone part. Who does he think he is to tell her when to call his name?

"You don't like your fellow wolves knowing your real name?"

He smirks at me, which makes me nearly fall off the bed. His smirk is very handsome and charming.

He looks too good!

He pulls himself closer... Very closer to me and then whispers, his nose nearly touching mine and his eyes staring directly into mine.

"Not that... I'd prefer when you speak to me directly" he pulls nearer again, this time whispering into my right ear and teasing it gently.

"Cause you're beautiful, and more than just a wolf"

"That's enough, Nate. You're making her uncomfortable"

I don't object cause Zadok is right. So... Right.

He withdraws, brushing his lips on my cheek as they automatically turn bright pink. He winks at me and takes a whole step backward.

"I'm Lorn" the black guy finally says with a smile and I nod hearing all their names.

"It's nice to meet you all"

"The pleasure is ours" they all chorused except for Zadok, who's staring out the window again, the breeze blowing against his hair making it wave in slow motion.

"We will get to know each other by morning. Get some sleep, you need it"

Zadok walks to the door and so with the others following from behind.

They all walk out... And...

"Wait! You expect me to stay in someone else's room?!"

Zadok turns to look back at me, with his hand on the doorknob.

"This is yours. Get some sleep"

This staring thing seems to be a common thing now.

"We'll see in the morning"

I have nothing less nothing more than to nod and he closes the door, leaving me in the forever darkroom he called my room.

They all seem to be on the good side. Am I the one getting things wrong here?

Especially coming to Zadok?

This... They gave me food that I thought was raw.

This all will be clear if I wake up by morning. But if I don't...

They will all pay.
