12 The Silver Wolves

Suke spent the next few days going through old books and other texts that spoke of the Obelisk. He knew a few things about the topic but couldn't be sure. He searched and hunted for a reason for how someone could actually destroy nine planets and not be noticed by the 'Arbiters' who were said to defend the planets. Maybe the Arbiters were just as weak as he himself was, or maybe they tried and failed, he couldn't be sure.

He sighed and leaned back. He had been inside the Church or rather, the Inquisition library for almost a week with no answers. Leon and Riyin occasionally stopped by to help him out but neither of them could make any progress aside from discovering what they already knew. Every once in awhile a priest would come and ask him if he needed a place to sleep or if he was having trouble finding anything. He always answered no as he didn't want anyone else to get involved with the search and his Aether magic could keep him awake for quite a few weeks.

Riyin and Leon were both with him now, each had a different area of the library to go through. Suke wondered if any of them had made any progress.

"The Obelisk has not been found on Eon for many centuries." Leon read. "I have been to almost all the planets and on some of them, the Obelisk simply does not exist or has not been revealed. I have some reason to think that the Obelisk will not appear or exist until the planet itself somehow senses that it's in danger, and if that's the case, then we won't have to worry until the Obelisk arrives. -Zaur"

Leon put down the paper he found within the book he was holding and ran over to Suke to show him.

"Suke, you might want to see this," Leon said placing on the table. "I think this is important." Suke picked up the paper and read, he spoke soon after.

"It could have a point but what if the Obelisk is here and simply won't reveal themself or worse, they don't even know that they are the obelisk?" Suke put the paper down. "We can't take any chances, but this is useful information."

Leon shook his head and ran over to grab another note. "This should change your mind." He said running back and putting it down in front of Suke.

"The Obelisk will have no choice but to reveal itself once it arrives." The passage read. "According to experience and the information I have found it will appear to those that know it's purpose and who can train it in the way of the Obelisk, in other words, the Arbiter, whoever that may be at the time. -Zaur"

"How did you come across this?" Suke asked Leon who pointed to a shelf on the southeast part of the library.

"There's a bunch of passages like this that keep falling out of books over there, whoever wrote them must have forgotten them.

"How do we know they're credible?" Riyin said coming over and reading them.

"I don't know… They were written a long time ago from the look of it." Leon said.

"Either way, it's the only clue we have." Suke stood up and walked over to the shelf where the notes were. "From now on we're going through these and finding as many as we can." The other two nodded and started going through the notes

----------------------------------------------

The ocean breeze washed over Roy like a wave. It was a nice feeling even if it did come with a huge negative temperature spike. He took a moment to listen to the melody that forever sounded in his head and was surprised that even though he was still in Tinia, the normal requiem was replaced by a joyful tune. Roy continued to follow the caravan as they passed the hundreds of people continually working around the port. He wondered how they could handle doing the same thing every single day with only two days a week for rest.

Fendaal continued to lead the caravan to one of the bigger ships. The ship had a large wolf crest on its side, Roy assumed it was on the sail as well. As they got closer Roy started to make out the crew. They certainly didn't look like merchants with their strange curved swords, were they pirates? Roy stopped for a moment reflecting his thoughts but then kept moving as he dismissed them. When they arrived at the ship Fendaal called Roy over.

"So, have you decided whether you're coming or not?" He asked while putting an arm around Roy's shoulders.

"I guess so, I've never been out of the country so I think it'll be a nice change of pace," Roy said earning himself a large toothy grin from Fendaal.

"I knew you'd say yes!" he happily said. "Come, I'll introduce you to the captain!" He pulled Roy along with him onto the large vessel. They walked over the cabin and knocked on the door.

"Come!" Someone shouted from inside. Fendaal opened the door to reveal the captain, a tall, muscled, dark-skinned woman, leaning over a map. She looked up briefly to acknowledge their entry.

"Fendaal," she said nodding to him and then turning back to her map. "It's been a while since you last joined us.

"Ha, perhaps it has, I'm glad to be with the Silver Wolves again nonetheless," Fendaal said. Roy thought he recognized the name of the crew but wasn't sure.

"In that case, where can I take you?" she asked turning away from her map and finally looking at them.

"I need passage to Konyuto, I have some business there with one of the houses," Fendaal said sitting down on the chair in front of the captain's desk.

"We just returned from there but I can make an exception for you."

"Really, why were you there? I thought you were at Falicoun."

"I was but when we returned an old friend of mine asked for a lift to Konyuto, I could hardly say no," the captain explained.

"I see… Well, I'm glad you decided to take us there anyway." Fendaal said smiling. "It means a lot that you would be willing to sacrifice your time for us, Daisy."

"I have no need for thanks," The captain who's name Roy finally knew said. "I have little else to spend my time doing."

"Well Daisy, I should introduce you to Tinia's greatest warlord, this is Roy Warblood," Fendaal said slapping Roy on the back and grinning. "He's been guarding my caravan ever since I started coming here all those years ago. At first, he was just a young lad, but now he's all grown up and stronger than ever, sadly I haven't seen him in action yet." Daisy only nodded.

"If his reputation is as accurate as I've heard then I'm sure he's served you well," she said. Fendaal seemed to glow at every compliment she gave even if it wasn't directed at him.

"He has indeed." He said happily. Daisy must not have noticed his happiness because she showed no sign of interest.

"I can't help but notice that a pirate crew is helping a merchant, why is that?" Roy finally got the nerve to ask, Fendaal gave him a dark look.

"We're not an ordinary pirate crew," Daisy explained. "Much like you as a warlord don't go around conquering countries, We don't go around plundering ships."

"I see," Was all Roy said in reply. "Well, I'm glad you are helping us." He said giving a slight bow of his head.

"You're going to Konyuto as well?" Daisy asked rounding her desk.

"Yes, why do you ask?"

"If you have the chance, look up Suke Bladestorm, he's a good man and a good friend."

"Why tell me this?" Roy asked curiously. She gave him a look of understanding. A look that said, "You've been through much, but you can still find solace." Roy said nothing as she turned away. He only let the melody in his head overrun his thoughts.

"I think you know why child," She said while walking back to her desk. Fendaal was left with confusion as Roy made his way out of the cabin and Daisy looked after him with the eyes of care.
