13 13. Spider Exterminated!

The mother spider screeches at the sight of two kids. They could serve as a full meal for the spider. Its appearance was different from the rest of its spiders. The silvery skin of the spider made it looks like it was tough from the outside. And the skill it uses, the small spiders have no skill that could hide their presence and turn invisible.

Both Fritz and Newt were angry because their lunch was interrupted, and their food had spilled onto the ground. Death would be an understatement for the mother spider. It deserves more than a painful death. Both of them thought. With their weapon in their hand, the two acted differently. Fritz took the right flank whilst Newt took the left. They were planning on attacking at the same time to give the spider a hard time.

[Stealthy Silvery Spider]

[Monster Type: Bronze]

It falls to the category of bronze since it was not rare to find. Many forests have this kind of spider living near a lake.

"Fritz!" Newt signaled Fritz. It was time to attack at the same. Though the spider sensed their intentions and was able to deal with their attacks. It took a turn, facing Newt. It spits web in the kid's direction, stopping his attack. And it also dodged Fritz's strike, jumping into the air. They just noticed the thin string of web laid around the trees.

"We're trapped! We can't touch the web strings. It is poisoned." The poison was dripping off of the web strings. When it landed on a leaf, it immediately withered the moment the poison touched the leaf.

"Since when did this freaking spider set those strings up?! We're at a disadvantage in here. And we can't go out."

"So, it's forcing us to fight it in this web cage, huh? If that's what you want, we will give it to you, right Fritz?"

"Yeah!"

The mother spider was jumping from strings to strings whilst using its invisibility. Both kids sharpened their senses. They were being cautious both of the web strings and the spider itself. It really wasn't the same as its small spiders. It wasn't spewing poison web but was just spewing normal web, and it kept jumping repeatedly. A jumping spider!

Its humongous size wasn't a hindrance to its movements. It was hard for the two to detect the spider with its invisibility and the way it was jumping from strings to strings. It made no noise.

"Here it comes!"

The spider's first attack came and went. It targeted Newt first since he possessed more threats than Fritz.

'I can't use Pickpocket unless I touch my target, damn!'

[Pickpocket needs physical interaction to activate. Or else, it's useless.]

'Thanks for the reminder. Don't worry, I'll find a way to touch that silvery shit.'

The mother spider kept on coming against Newt. It was trying to take out the kid first. "You needed to touch the spider?!" Newt exclaimed. He frowned since he did not know why. "Okay, I give you a heads up before it attacks. The spider can't attack whilst use its skill! We will need to watch out for that time!"

"Okay!"

Fritz distanced himself a few inches away from Newt. It was to fool the spider as they were unaware of its attack pattern. The two waited for its next attack to come. A few minutes passed until it comes.

"There!" The mother spider uses its legs to attack Newt from behind. But before it could attack, it should reveal itself first. That's what they were waiting for. They took advantage of the fact that it was still in the process of revealing itself.

Newt evaded the spider's deadly pointy tip of its legs whilst giving the go signal to Fritz.

"Alright! *Touch!*" Fritz was successful at what he needed to do.

[Skill: Pickpocket has been activated.]

[You have copied the spider's skill, 'Spider Skin.']

[This skill will allow you to utilize the spider's web strings and will become immune to the poison imbued in the web strings.]

'This is the answer we need to deal with this shithead!'

"Newt, I just got the best weapon we could use against him," Fritz said with a smirk on his face. He could see the end game of this.

"What is it?" Newt asked dryly.

"Watch me."

Newt stood silent as Fritz began using the web strings as if it was his own. And not minding the poison attached to it. His eyes widened, seeing Fritz utilize the web strings. It was like he was a spider too. He wasn't getting stuck into it. Also, the poison was not affecting Fritz. That's what surprised Newt even more.

"H-how?" Newt stuttered due to his amusement. "How come you're... you're not stuck in the web?!"

Fritz smirked even more, "I have a temporary skill that allowed me to copy one random skill to anyone I touch." He explained.

"Temporary?" Newt confusedly asked.

Fritz lightly nodded, "yeah. I can only use it once. It will be a long story if I explain it now. For now, let's focus on what's in front of us."

When Newt evaded the spider's pointy legs, he tried to cut a leg or two. And he was able to slice off one of its legs. It screeches in pain, and a few minutes had passed again. And the spider still wasn't showing itself.

"It's slaughter time!" Fritz's eyes spotted the hurt and bleeding spider. It was covering its wound with the poison they were imbuing their web. 

"There you are, you fucker." Hiding through the thick web strings that have been recently attached to the trees lies the spider.

[Your skill, 'Skill Generator' is ready to use.]

'Perfect timing!'

[Skill: Skill Generator has been activated.]

[A random Thief skill has been generated.]

[Shadow Step]

After inflicting an attack on your enemy, time will stop for a second, giving you a chance to strike again or a chance to evade an attack.]

'That means I can slice this spider twice, or maybe even more. Really, what a useful skill.'

Fritz jumped through the web string to another. He's aiming at killing the spider within those 1 second he would have after the first attack. Newt was cutting off the web strings, but it was too elastic. He was having a hard time moving around.

"Just stay there, Newt. I'll take care of the enemy this time." Fritz winked as if he was annoying Newt.

The mother spider was done curing itself of the pain it was feeling from having its leg cut off. Fritz was leaping continuously to the strings till he reached the spider. It screeches and shoots its ball of the web. Fritz cut split it into two, using his dagger. Droplets of poison drip from the web strings, and it touches the kid's skin. Fritz was nimble. Quick in his feet around the web cage sneakily created by the spider.

[Due to continuous leaping from one web string to another, your agility has increased.]

Fritz felt light. He could feel his movements becoming smooth. He was amazed at himself. He finally launched from a tree trunk towards the mother spider, who currently leaped away. Fritz predicted its movement pattern. Even if he could not see it, he still came flying downwards where he supposed the spider would be.

"Gotcha!"

Its silvery body was just for a show. Its skin wasn't really that tough. He aimed for its body, stabbing it through.

[Skill: Shadow Step has been activated.]

The time did really stop. For a moment, Fritz saw everything in slow motion. From the dripping of the poison from the web string. The dried leaves falling out of the trees and the amused face of Newt. It all flashed in front of him.

'Wow' was the only word he said as he aggressively stabbed, slashed, and slice the spider apart. From that split second, he managed to kill the spider.

Fritz landed on the ground, and Newt gave him a smack on his back. "I'll admit that you're today's main character."

"I'll let you be the hero next time." He hit Newt back, and the two burst 

into laughter.

"Let's go inside the dungeon! It's time for some real action!"
