3 Week One: Lazy?

"There will be a quiz tomorrow, along with your homework being due the day after. As a bonus, you may also answer this question to hand in with the quiz." Projected onto the smartboard was a mess of handwritten words but was seemingly understandable. I, along with 99% of the class, pulled out our phones to take photos, the only exception being Leo.

"What's your number? I'll send you the photo." 'Wrong...this be taken the wrong way.'

"Yea here." He shrugged it off reaching his hand out to take my phone and put in his number before handing me his own.

I laughed to myself a little as I texted myself, "Yo Yo Yo."

"You have a tinder?"

My face had glowed red at the question as I hastily grabbed my phone from Leo. "I've hidden my account just haven't deleted it." I then showed the process of me clicking the uninstall button. Leo smiled slightly followed by himself finishing the packet.

"I'm not your boyfriend, you don't need to explain yourself to me."

The professor let us off for a break but Leo walked up to the front and had a conversation with the professor. He nodded in understanding to which Leo thanked making his way back to me.

"I have to get going, something came up. Want to do the assignments after class tomorrow?"

I thought for a moment, "Sure. Get going though, I'll text you if anything happens to change."

That same smile graced his lips before his everyday wave and vanishing from sight a phone held to his ear. Seeing him in such a way reminded me of a famous quote, "To do two things at once is to do neither." But that seemed unbefitting of the sole boy, 'Those who only focus in one thing are doomed to too much time. Those with too much time are doomed to mediocrity.' A pair of counter lines but both fitting to their own symbols.

My thoughts never drifted back to class my pencil moving on its own across the page. 'How does he stay so calm! What does he do that allows him to be so carefree! He doesn't pay attention yet understands everything! He puts no effort forward but is soaring by!' I bit down on my thumbnail while my pencil snapped in my other hand.

"Nice drawing. You guys close?" The girl next to me whispered. My sight drifted down without reply. Leo was standing in the doorway head hung low his phone in hand, his other hand clenched. His hair a mess and his skinny figure even more evident. The details were yet to be done but the feeling of the work was very forthright.

"No, only just met." I didn't raise my head and an answer was not heard. I folded the paper and put my attention back to class. With more talk on derivatives and the power rule, the lecture came to an end. My look leaving close to parallel with the drawing.

I turned the key to start my car but I didn't make movements to drive. "Why would I draw him in sadness when he acts so carefree? Do I inherently think he is hiding something? No, must be nothing."

My phone rang on my way back home from my friend Chelsea. She was inviting me out for dinner on Saturday. Besides this nothing else had changed in my daily routine. I pulled the folded paper from my pocket and tossed it in the corner of my desk.

The day started late with me sleeping in from marketing class being canceled. I pulled into the lot and like everytime before saw Leo's car parked near the back; I parked next to him. I took a puff from my vape before making my way to the lecture room.

I found Leo asleep in the back of the room and found myself smiling. I checked his name off as well on the check-in sheet along with my own. I remembered to also tell Jim I would busy the 25th and would need my final to be the 21st. He agreed and after formalities prepared for class. Having taken a seat beside Leo I unanimously decided with myself that I should wake him. I tapped his shoulder but got nothing. I tried again... and again. It took me longer than it should have, five times, before I pushed his roughly in the side. I got a react but he only corrected himself not awake yet. I took it to the extreme and shook him.

"Its too early, Emm, give me five more minutes." He grumbled in his half asleep state.

I laughed out, "I don't know who Emm is but its time for class, there isn't five minutes to give." The professor had decided to start class with the quiz giving us the break after.

Without skipping a beat Leo was completed focused on the quiz the previous dreariness gone. 'How much do I have to pay for that ability? I want to be able to wake up like nothing happened too!'

Far too quickly Leo was done with the quiz and handed it in at the next moment. Everyone was looking at him like he was a form of monster, 5 minutes for a 10 question test on derivatives. 'Screw you, dude.'

I was done after checking it over twice and making sure I made no mistakes. Leo watched me hand it in and was waiting for me by the door.

"How'd you do?"

"I think decently, B likely." He answered with a joking demeanor.

"You should take your time." 'I feel like a mother.'

"Doesn't matter, grade gets transferred as a pass or fail not an A or C.

"Doesn't matter, get the A."

"Who are you? My mother?"

"Yes."

Leo and I were both laughing as we walked outside in the cool summer weather.

"Great weather for the beach," I commented taking in the light breeze.

"You're free to join me, both my parents are way for the week so the shore houses are to myself." He offered his eyes locked with my back.

"I'll pass." 'Would be really weird.'

"Not a problem, thought I would make the offer." He still held the smile from before and gaze didn't leave mine.

"You said houses not house why is that?" The silence had longer than my liking so I looked for a way to break it.

His eyes moved to his watch,"It's time for class again. You took too long on the quiz." 'Once again with the joking attitude.'
