4 Chapter 4: Strange Wings

Vahn had his breakfast and meditated till noon when time for lunch came a teleportation circle appeared over the table and a hot plate of pasta with tomato sauce materialised with a note aside.

"Sorry for not coming back, a lot of paperwork has piled up and I won't have time to come back but at 2 o'clock a recruit will come to oversee your training. Good day son."

Vahn didn't react after reading the note, his father has been away from work for a week now without prior notice because of his injury it was natural that he would have to spend time to make up for his sudden departure. Eating his lunch alone, Vahn thought of this past week his only memories since his head injury. His father was mostly cold but he was still concerned of his wellbeing and his wishes, his training kept his mind away from the darkness in his mind. The void of his memory was slowly filled with the successes and failures of his exercises and his interaction with his father.

Finishing his plate, he placed it in the sink then got to his room. He opened his box, it was the first time he did it since he lost his memory, rediscovering baby toys and a rubber ball. He took out the ball off the box and started playing with it waiting for his father subordinate to arrive.

Before the house a teleportation circle lighted up and a man in his early twenties came out of it and soon after knocked on the door. Vahn opened the front door as it was almost time for his father subordinate arrival.

"Young master Flauros, I am Tyron Hellius." greeted the aspiring city guard.

"You can call me Vahn, you are my overseer after all. Let's get started with my training. "

"Alright Vahn-sama. "

The afternoon exercise passed without incident or anything notable happening. Hellius excused himself at 6PM leaving Vahn alone in the house until dinner. Alastor came back late with pizzas in his arms, Vahn ate the small sized with cheese, ham and onions one while his father ate the large sized 4 cheeses pizza.

"How was your day Vahn? "

"Fine father and how was yours?"

"Charged but manageable. How was Hellius?"

"He was alright for a chaperone, he didn't do much nor needed to."

"He will be coming for the rest of the week, watching over you will be a weekly assignment just tell me if any recruit are slacking in their duty." Alastor informed his son.

"I will father, any other thing I can do for you? "

"No, that's all." said his father while thinking <You could give me some more problems instead of being so obedient.>

The weeks passed and the recruits followed one after the other, most of them just did what they were supposed to. Some of them completely neglected their duty and a lesser amount of recruit took their task seriously and gave Vahn actual advice and help. Those recruits who were negligent were simply fired as they were simply unfit to be city guards with their comportment.

As November arrived Vahn physical prowess had grown tremendously, the amount of chakra in his body had multiplied over a 100 time his original amount. He was now able to speed up the circulation of chakra in his body and concentrate it in one area on his body with low precision but it required a constant amount of chakra to maintain.

He also recently managed to move some small amounts of light and demonic energy in his body at the same time. However he couldn't move them separately making unable to use any devil magic nor summon any light. On the night of November 10th, Vahn asked his father how he grew the wings on his back and his answer was so simple that it was a shocking revelation. Concentrating demonic energy between the shoulder blades and pushing it out of the back leading to the unfurling of the wings.

That night Vahn spent hours leading his mixed energy failing multiple times in the process before he finally deployed his own pair of wings. His wings didn't look like his father at all, they had a dark leathery texture around the bones that beared some resemblance but the wings themselves were made of ash grey feathers.

Vahn woke his father up to show his wings expecting some positive feedback but was sorely disappointed.

"Son, I don't even know how to say it. Your wings are the proof of God's death, they are an hybridisation of devil and fallen angel wings. I hoped you would have one wing of each, at least you could have shown them and flying around would have been possible even if it revealed your mixed bloodline. You must keep them hidden Vahn or you might be targeted by ultimate class powerhouse from any factions. " Alastor begrudgingly informed his son.

"So I take it's fine I use them inside when I am alone. You said they are the proof of God's death, is it the Heaven's God or another one?" Vahn asked grinding his teeth.

"It is him, the Church and Angels in charge choose to hide that fact who is known by very few people but his death is speculated by many as all the Devil King died in the war. " helplessly admitted his father.

Vahn excused himself and went back to his room to get a little bit of sleep for the next morning. When the sun rose up, he resumed his habitual schedule meditating after breakfast but for a much shorter period of time than usual. Using two hours before lunch to get an initial taste of flight, his wings being small didn't bother him much as their wingspan barely exceeded 1 metre in length. Vahn didn't fly recklessly inside the house only barely lifting his body from the ground and moving at a very slow speed.
