1 Envy

It was a beautiful and calm evening in Eden, the sky being streamed with pastels, ranging from an off yellow to a deep and voluminous periwinkle; marigolds littering the walkways of the garden as the fairies all rushed their tasks before night fell. The sunflowers, which once faced the sun, now turning towards each other till dawn arrives once more. The smell of fresh roses and dew infiltrated the nostrils of every living thing that would walk by, making them feel a great sense of calm and soothing the worries that may have risen. A warm breeze brushes by, causing a slight shiver to the angels completing their duties as the sky darkened.

"This is not fair, why must I be the one to collect souls while everyone else has the simple task of gardening?!"

The angry voice could be heard throughout the gardon, ricocheting off the delicate petals of the dozens of Blue Ivy plants causing all the fairies to hide immediately.

Such a disturbance was not a common case in Eden, let alone the entirety of Heaven. As the sky darkened and the angels returned back to Heaven, all gazed fell upon the two figures standing at the smokey, marble gazebo set in the courtyard of Eden. Tension was heavy and could be felt even on Earth, where humans were known to be ignorant and selfish.

The two angels faced each other, one with a look of complete and utter disgust portrayed on his face as the other gave a solemn and apologetic look.

"I, Renoir Hwang, am unable to believe that after all the years I've spent as an angel am being given the role of a Grimm Reaper?" he scoffed, "I swear, I knew the head was an idiot but to give an angel like you, the power over creating souls? Even idiocy has a limit!"

The garden, which once used to consist of complete serenity, had now been replaced with this demented aura, the infuriated angel was causing disruption in the zen of the garden, balance was losing control. The flowers began to wilt, the warm weather becoming stormy and the air becoming humid, making it difficult to breathe.

"-and to think, seniority would gain me respect. Head Archangel really chose you to be an angel? No, you've got it all wrong, Head Archangel felt bad for you because of the way you died, I mean, who died from choking on a churro? Satan was more than glad to receive your depressive excuse of a soul but Head Archangel decided to take you under his wing." face flushed red with anger, Renoir continued, "Learn to respect me, you may be Head Archangels puppet but no one, and I repeat, no one deserves the role of soul giver other than me. As a matter of fact, I will make sure to kill each and every soul you create, in front of you."

The angels blinding white wings slowly began to darken, the feathers slowly beginning to morph into scales of red and black hues. Colours of his irises transitioning from the crystal blue to a crimson red, the angel was becoming a dark creature. Eden was beginning to fall apart and the longer Renoir stayed, to more Eden will crumble.

"Stop this Renoir!" the latter angel cried out but, it was too late.

As the angel morphed, he became a handsome young man blinded by his own anger. He raised his pale arm and grasped the throat of the soon to be Soul Giver, slowly applying pressure and closing her airways as a devious smile had presented itself on the boys pale face.

Soon enough a crack could be heard, signalling that Renoir had successfully crushed the angels trachea. Yet, coming to realization, he quickly let go as he didn't have an initial ill intent, replacing the sudden rush of happiness with imminent fear.

"Renoir Hwang, Reaper of Souls from Earth!" a deep voice boomed through the seven Heavens.

Upon hearing the voice, Renoir quickly dropped the unconscious angel and faced the area where the voice came from.

There he was.

In all his glory, Head Archangel stood, furious with the scene in front of him as he saw his apprentice lying sprawled out across the, now, dying grass.

"You monster!" he screamed, "You treacherous being, how dare you brutally murder an angel! How dare you murder my child!" tears rushing out of Head Archangel's eyes. "You do not belong in heaven anymore, you are not an angel anymore!"

At this, Renoir's eyes widened.

"I, Head Archangel of Heaven, banish you from all Heavens and tear you from the status of an Angel! If I ever see you step foot in heaven, I will make you ceased of existence and feed you to the dogs in Hell!"

An agonizing scream had been heard from the rebelling angel. The fairies witnessing this had all fallen unconscious at the gruesome sight which stood in front of them, the angel's wings were in flames.

Only black wings remained, resembling those of the demons in hell, Renoir's deep black hair becoming an ashy platinum yet, when you'd believe that an angel couldn't become more beautiful, a single glance at Renoir would make you believe otherwise.

From the ashes stood a handsome young man, jawline sharp and chiseled enough to slice through a piece of paper, complexion appearing paler than usual making each and every trace of a vein more evident, eyes becoming a piercing gray, specks of red littered the irises as his figure became well built and muscular. Through the torn strips of clothing, defined muscles could be seen dying to be exposed to the light; only for the entire person to vanish.

There he stood, Renoir Hwang. The fallen angel stood in front of the obsidian gates of hell, smirk plastered on his face as he walked through. Watching each and every demon scan him from head till toe, he couldn't help but feel powerful.

"I see you've accepted my offer." a silky voice resonated from the peak of the great hall.

"Why wouldn't I, Satan?" he chuckled as he approached the ruler of hell.

"Oh my, I see you've already asserted your dominance?" He questioned, eyebrow raised.

Satan had looked down at the fallen angel kneeling in front of him. A soft smile plastered on his face as he, himself, stands up. Blanket falling to the ground as he steps off the throne and reaches out towards Renoir with his tanned, veiny hand.

"No need to kneel, you're one of us now-" Satan whispers in his ear, "-Envy."
