Start of Something New

For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to be a singer. Taking part in seven singing competitions, I have never made it past the first round. Now that I am 21 I have finally decided to find another way to follow my dreams. Reality is harsh, to make it in the singing industry you must have talent and looks. Not to say I'm ugly, to be honest I'm quite ordinary looking straight brown hair down to my shoulders. Full lips and green eyes, standing at a height of 5'5".

Sighing, I put my head in my hands. Lia, my roommate, hears me and comes to sit next to me on the couch. "What's up Sierra? Are you nervous for your job interview or something?" Ever since I have moved into the big city, Lia has always been there for me. We are roommates in the small house we have been renting for 2 years now.

When I don't respond Lia leaves to go get breakfast. I look out through the open screen doors and see her walking through our small courtyard to enter a small shed in the middle containing our kitchen. A breeze rushes through the open doors smelling of flowers from the courtyard. My home is small but cozy.

Lazily I stretch my arms above my head and sing a few notes that pop into my mind. Steps sound beside me and Lia enters into my field of vision carrying a plate of scrambled eggs and bacon. She sets the plate down in front of me on the coffee table. I grab the plate and set it in my lap. Slowly I pick up my fork and move the food around on my plate. I'm not that hungry. My upcoming job interview has left me with no appetite.

Lia sitting next to me notices I have not taken a bite of my breakfast. She takes the fork from my hands, stabs some of the eggs, grabs my jaw and forces my mouth open. Stuffing the eggs into my open mouth she exclaims "Sierra how are you going to pass your interview if you don't have anything in your stomach? What would you do if you faint in front of the people who are interviewing you? You would be quite ashamed and I doubt you would get the job."

I quickly swallow my eggs and laugh. "Lia you sound like my mom". I give her a hug then pinch her on the arm. "Oww what was that for?" she asks. I shrug "You stuffed egged in my mouth it was only fair that I repay your kindness."

"Ohhh your going to get it this time Sierra." I give out a little shriek and jump up from the couch with Lia right on my heels. Running around the couch I slip into my room with just enough time to close the door before she catches me. Breathing loudly I collapse onto the bed. There is a knock on my door and Lia enters my room. Before I can get up and run back out the door she quickly calls a truce.

She lays down next to me on the bed, and we both catch our breaths. "Don't forget to finish your breakfast and get changed into the outfit I chose for you for the interview". I respond with an affirmative and Lia gets up to head out of my room. Before she heads out the door she looks over her shoulder at me and says "You have to be at Bright Entertainment headquarters in an hour so you had better hurry so you aren't late."

I glance at the clock and see that she is right. I slide out of my bed and walk out into the living room to finish my breakfast. I glance across the room and notice that Lia has shut her bedroom door.

After I eat my breakfast I grab my plate and step into the courtyard. It's the perfect temperature outside and I revel in the spring breeze. I enter the kitchen and place my plate in the sink. I notice that the dishes have piled up some and make a mental note to do them when I get back. I stand on my tippy toes and reach above the sink to grab a water bottle in the cupboard. I fill up the water bottle and head back into my room.

Sitting on my dresser are the clothes Lia picked out for me. I hold them up and see that she had picked out one of her clothes for me. A light peach colored flowing top with a denim skirt ending about where the knees are. I sigh, I never wear these fancy outfits. I set her clothes back down on my dresser and go open my closet.

Contemplating, I finally decide to wear a pair of jeans that are the least ripped up out of all of my jeans. And I grab a plaid long sleeve button up shirt half of it blue and the other half red. I don't button it up instead I wear a white tank top underneath.

After I get dressed I grab my water bottle that I had previously set on my nightstand and glance at the clock. I have 30 minutes to get to the Company and if I don't leave now I'm going to be late.

I run out of the house calling goodbye to Lia as I leave, wishing her a good day. I open the heavy wooden courtyard doors that lead outside to the street and grab my red bike laying on its side just inside the courtyard. Time to start my new life.
