46 Elevator Troubles

"Oh. The elevators stopping," Waze said in a calm way. It took a second before the calm broke. "Shit the elevators stopping! Just -I don't know- get to the side!" Waze and Cassidy both pressed to the side of the elevator, so that the men outside couldn't see them. Waze desperately tried to jam the 'close door' button but it was to no avail, as the men stepped on before the doors shut.

The men were wrapped up in their conversation and didn't even notice the girls at first. Once the door was completely shut, Waze looked to Cassidy and nodded. Waze slid back her leg and focused all of her power into it before bringing it up in a high arc. For a slit second, she made eye contact with the man, before her foot slammed into his face. He stumbled backwards and slammed into the back of the elevator clutching his face, but quickly recovered. The man held up his fist, and Waze watched with wide eyes as spikes grew from his hand. She gulped. One hit from that and she was dead.

The man sent a punch flying at Waze's face and she narrowly dodged out of the way, one of the spikes skimming her cheek and drawing a drop of blood. She didn't even flinch at the momentary pain, her mind all in the fight. She ducked under his arms and dashed forward, bringing her knee up and slamming it into his gut. As he crumpled forward, Waze brought her elbow down as hard as she could on the back of his head. The man slouched off and struggled up into kneeling position, but Waze slammed his face into her knee and he fell back to the ground.

Waze turned as the elevator beeped and the door opened. Shit. She looked out at a group of probably 10 men standing in the elevator lobby. She quickly hit the door closing sign. Suddenly she had an idea. She looked to Cassidy and gestured to the men on the ground. Cassidy nodded. They both hauled up the men and threw them over their shoulders as hard as they could. Waze watched as the bodies flew out the closing elevator doors, slamming into the men in the lobby, knocking them backwards. As the door closed, Waze quickly hit the button for the 14th floor, the highest one.

"Maybe we should've taken the stairs." Cassidy wiped sweat of her forehead.

"Well, that's the plan now. Hopefully there won't be anybody on the 14th floor. We'll take the stairs down from there." Waze sighed and leaned against the wall before touching a hand to her bleeding cheek. "Shit." She dabbed at it with her sleeve, then gave up, deciding there wasn't really anything she could do.

"You good?" Cassidy looked at Waze with concern. "Oh shit your chee-"

"It's nothing." Waze cut Cassidy off. "Really, I'll be fine. Not much I can do now, anyway. What about you? You ok?"

"As great as ever." Cassidy flashed Waze a thumbs up and grinned. Waze giggled.

Waze tensed as she heard the beep of the elevator, signaling that they had reached the 14th floor. Having learned their lesson, Waze and Cassidy took a fighting stance as the doors opened. Waze breathed a sigh of relief.

"There's no one there," Waze said. The two stepped out and glanced around for a second to make sure the lobby really was empty.

"Good. Stairs are right over there." Cassidy pointed to a doorway next to the elevators. She walked over and jiggled the handle. "It's locked."

"Here, let me try." Waze took a step back.

"Huh? Why would it be any different for yo-" Before Cassidy could finish speaking Waze dashed forward and jumped into the air, slamming her foot into the door with an explosion of blue energy. The door fell over.

"See? Got it." Cassidy groaned and Waze laughed. The amusement was short lived as Waze heard a yell from down the hallway.

"Who's there?!" A man's voice called after them.

"Shit. Run!" Cassidy took off down the stairs not waiting for Waze's response. Waze quickly followed after. They had made it about two flights down when someone busted out of another doorway along the way.

"There they are! Get them!" The men behind them were catching up at this point, and now Waze and Cassidy were being tailed by about six men. Cassidy stopped.

"What are you doing?! Come on, let's go!" Waze looked up at Cassidy who was standing a few steps above her.

"You go on ahead," Cassidy said.

"What are you, crazy? Let's go! They're catching up!" Waze looked frantically at Cassidy for an answer.

"I'll hold them off. It'll be useless if we get there and they're tailing us anyway. Just go, I'll lead them away."

"Cassidy..." Waze looked up at Cassidy who gave her a weak smile. The small girl sprinted towards a door on the side of the staircase.

"C'mon, this way!" Cassidy said loudly, attracting the guards before winking at Waze. Waze frowned before nodding to Cassidy and sprinting further down the staircase. She heard the slam of the door as Cassidy ran through before it was opened quickly and all the men followed. Once she was sure they had all followed Cassidy, Waze paused to catch her breath.

Waze steeled her expression and stood up. She took a deep breath.

"Alright. I can do this." Waze narrowed her eyes. She started her way down the staircase, growing ever nearer to her final fight.
