1 The French Revolution

Prelude

In 1789, France was in a turmoil people are revolting because of the unfair taxes that taxxed the lower classes heavily while there's tax exemptions on the Higher class, debt of France which they had trouble paying, an incompetent and selfish King, Louis XVI, freedom of thought and speech is widespread. People began questioning the King's rule and the Catholic Church. The estates general had an unfair vote, the Third Estate, which represents the Common People, left the Estates General assembly to form the National Assembly, for the Third estate. Louis XVI did not like this. And ordered their meeting place to be closed down. The Third Estate then gathered at a nearby indoor tennis court, they swore to not to separate until they come up with a constitution of France. We call this gathering "The Tennis Court Oath" then other members of the Estates began to join them. The King, Louis XVI began to place the Military in Versailles and Paris as the National Assembly members increase. And fired his financial adviser, Jacques Necker. As he manipulated public opinion. People got the news and the National Assembly is renamed as the National Constituent Assembly. The members begin to riot in Paris.

The Siege of Bastille Prison, start of the Revolution-1789

On 14th of July, the People stormed the Bastille Prison. With some French Guards. Bastille was full of weapons and ammunitions. The Governor of Bastille ordered a cease fire, but the angry mob continued to fight. And the Mob beated, stabbed and decapitated him. Louis backed down and let Marquis de la Fayette to establish law and order. Law and order fell apart, word of the revolution spread and people outside Paris began their revolt. Nobilities fled to neighbouring countries seekimg for help. Panic spread and people established their own militias to storm the Châteaus of the Nobility. The National Assembly also abolished Feudalism. That brought more freedom and equality to the People. The National Assembly published the declaration of the rights of Men and Citizen. Women protested on Versailles due to shortages. And the next day of the Protest stormed the Palace and killed several Guards. They demand the King to move to Paris. And he did.

Resentment to the Catholic Church led tp their lands being confiscated. Clergies and France was under control of the French. Parties formed as the Constitution is being made. Many Political Clubs rose. Most notable are the Jacobins. The King feared for his life and wanted to call for foreign Reinforcements. But instead they flee to the Austrian Border in disguise. He was noticed and forced to return to Paris. People thought the King supported the Revolution, but no, he did not. While people signed a Petition to remove the King from power. La Fayette ordered his soldiers to make sure the crowd is in control. But no, people threw Stones at the Soldiers, and the Soldiers fired on the guys throwing stones, killing 13 to 50 of them, this event is known as the Champ de Mars Massacre. Prussia and the Holy Roman Empire supports the French Monarchy and would intervene if Louis is threatened further. Citizens angered, National Assembly renamed again to Legislative Assembly, it failed miserably. French declared war on Austria and Prussia, but suffered many defeats, because the French Army is very disorganized. This war is called The War of the First Coalition. In 1792, August 10,French Soldiers stormed the King's Palace, killed many, and captured The King. Jacobins suspended the Monarchy, Coalition forces are closing in on Paris. Prisoners were killed in France, which was known as the September Massacres. Legislative Assembly is turned to National Convention.

It abolished the Monarchy, and France was turned into a Republic.

The New French Republic-1792

On 22nd of September of 1792, The French Republic is born the French won at Valmy against the Coalitions, France was turned to a Strong Nation. They continue to win more battles which caught the attention of the UK and Dutch Republic. Louis XVI was tried and guilty of High Treason by conspiring with the Enemies of France, and they executed him by Guillotine in January, 1793, this execution got the attention of all Monarchs of Europe. When i say Monarchs of Europe. Most of Europe. They declared war on France to join the War of the First Coalition. Maximilien de Robespierre took control of France, he's the leader of the Jacobins and executed many "traitors" of France. Which is called the Reign of Terror. They confiscated food from countryside to feed the city people. They're higly against Christians. Which they recreated their Calendar. People got tired of it and they executed Robespierre by the Guillotine. 1795, some countries made peace with France. National Convention is renamed to The Directory. Back in 1793, Toulon was under siege. French won the siege because of one Artillery officer. Napoleon Bonaparte, which made them win more victories in Switzerland and Italy. Napoleon led a campaign in Egypt, Brits burned down his ships or took them. Which stranded Napoleon. Hearing the defeats of France, Napoleon made his way back to France, where he overthrew the Government, without a single death, and named himself First Consul. 1802 saw 14 months of peace. Then after the 14 months, the Napoleonic Wars would begin...
