Wait, What?

We finish dinner and Alec is quick to pay. I decide to let him play as the "good date" as I walk outside and wait knowing it wouldn't be wise of me to just walk away. I look to the door when I hear the bells and see him walking out with a smile.

I watch the man make his way over and wonder why he's being so persistent... why is he putting in so much effort in this? Was it just to get laid? No... if that was the case he had multiple women lining up for that.. so then why?

I look away once he walks over and we quietly begin walking back. To be honest, I don't know what to say... I'm not used to talking to others or making small talk so I keep my mouth shut. Even though it was completely dark I could feel him watching me as we walk back.

As we were passing a street light I look over and look into his dark eyes that seem to be watching my every move. The street lights make his dark eyes look like they were dancing and I find myself slowing. "Why?" I ask and he comes to a stop.

"Why what?" He asks and I quickly say "Why do you "like" me?" he turns to me and says "Because it's you." I frown but before I can see anything else Chip says "Black sedan heading your way has someone with a gun... I just hacked into their phone and they plan on shooting the man in front of you."

My eyes narrow and I look back to Alec and I remember he's not just anyone. He's the underground boss... many people would love to take him out... problem was... did I care? "Eight seconds..." Chip says and I grit my teeth as I reach out to Alec to pull him out of the way.

I hear the tires screeching as I try to spin Alec away and I'm surprised to find myself being grabbed as Alec flips back the other way putting his body between me and the shooter. Shots are fired before the tires squeal again and the car drives away.

"Follow the car!" I yell at Chip. He beeps as I push Alec away but he stumbles a bit and I quickly reach out to grab him. I feel warm liquid as the sky lights up with lightning. He's been hit... I pull my phone out to call 911 but he quickly reaches out covering my hand and shaking his head no.

"What do you mean no?? You've been shot! Do you want to die??" I say in confusion but he says "Don't call the cops... I'll be fine." My eyebrows fly up at his words and I find myself looking around. What should I do? I bite my lip and know that if nothing is done he could possibly die...

I decide to take him home and worry about the rest later. "My house is a block away... do you think you'll make it?" He looks to me with a pained face but I can see the shock in his eyes. Yeah, I'm shocked too... He searches my face for a moment before he nods his head and stands straight... well almost straight.

I easily slip under his arm and allow him to lean on me as we start making our way back to the house. "Chip, make arrangments," I say and Chip beeps again. Alec frowns at me but doesn't say anything and I don't say anything further.

The lightning flashes again as the sky unleashes a heavy downpour. I look over to Alec and see him clenching his jaw. He looks paler than he did before... I look back to the street and curse at how empty it was. Normally that's how I like it but now I would love it if someone was around to help.

I grit my teeth when I feel him slump against me. I look up and see the side of my house and say "We're almost there..." My hair was completely soaked and stuck flat against my head as the rain ran down my face. I try my best to hold him up but he's a big guy...

When we reach the front Chip opens the garage, allowing us to easily make our way in. I walk him over to the wall and stop... hesitating. He looks to me in confusion but doesn't say anything so I grit my teeth and place my hand on the wall. Screw it! I plan on moving anyway...
