1 Greatness From Small Beginnings

Two boys huddle close to a computer screen, completely fascinated by the advertisement for the next big video game coming to America. The commercial ends and all that is left on the screen is the words "GLORY" in front of a symbol with crossed swords and wings. The boys stare at the screen in awe. The video displayed different aspects of the game from dungeon runs to the arena. The boys were captivated by the game.

"We have to pre-order this game! When does it come out?"

"It says November twenty first. Let's get mom to take us to the game shop tomorrow!"

They turn back to the computer, restart the video and watch it again. These boys are brothers, only two years apart, one is fourteen and the other is twelve. Jack is the older brother and Kane is the younger. The boys love to play video games, and they have a lot of time to play because they are homeschooled.

The next day the two brothers drag their mom to the game store and they both pre-order the game. Now all they have to do is wait. For the first time in their lives they find themselves wishing that the summer will pass by quickly. The boys start to research. They look up everything they can about the game, anything that will help give them a head start. They excitedly discuss which class is the best as they try to decide which one they will choose. Then one day they discover it, the glory professional championship.

"Jack come here and watch this! It's a video of the most recent finals match from season four in China."

They watch, with amazement, the intense fight for the championship. After they finish that video they immediately look for past games and watch as many as they can. They quickly pick out their favorite teams and start arguing about which one is better.

"You're wrong! Excellent Era is definitely the best team!"

"You just like them because they are the three time champions, don't jump on that band wagon."

"Not true! I like them because One Autumn Leaf is the best player out there!"

Back and forth the brothers argue.

November twentieth, the day before the game releases arrives and the boys can't contain their excitement. To them Christmas is about to arrive early. They have done nothing but talk about and research Glory all summer.

"So have you decided which class you are going to pick yet?" Kane asks Jack.

"I'm going to use a sword class, What about you?"

"No way! That's what I was going to be too, I'm thinking about using a greatsword mainly."

"You just picked that because I did! But I'm going to use a lightsaber."

"No! I would have picked a sword either way!"

"Sure you would, I thought with you being a One Autumn Leaf fan you would have been a battle mage."

"Well I did consider it but then no one will be as good as him so I wanted to do my own thing."

"Right, well we will have to see who can be the better swordsman."

That night the boys got their dad to drive them to the game shop and wait in line until midnight when they can pick up a copy of their game. There were hundreds of people in line, after waiting in line for a hour they finally received their copy. The boys rush their dad home and run over to their computers to install the game. Their dad begins to stop them but then sighs and says, "you can stay up for one more hour but then it's bedtime."

"Thanks dad!" They shout as he heads down the hall.

After much anticipation they both get the game installed. Then they insert their account cards into the card reader.

"Ok ready? Three, two, one, go!"

They press the start button at the same time.

And just like that their adventure begins.
