Chapter 1Alif and Adna, 1942.

1942-03-01, West Java.

Japan and one of the ABDA Command nations, namely America, went to war (a member of the KNIL). After Lieutenant General Hitoshi Imamura was given the go-ahead to strike Java on January 30, America sent its forces into battle. 750 soldiers from America were sent to battle the Japanese under the command of Major General Julian Francis Barnes.

In the meantime, the Japanese had established a fort in Serang. One of the soldiers is an Indonesian soldier. He is a medical soldier name Alif. He works every day to care for the hurt soldiers, whether they are from Indonesia or Japan. He leads one of the fast medic warriors despite his miserable life.

Alif was caring for Indonesian soldiers at the time. Despite the sounds of yelling patients, dizzy officers, and shooting outside, he patiently attended to the soldier. After tending to him, Akihiro, the army head, visits Alif. Alif looks up to Akihiro because of his competent leadership and because he has the respect of Major General Yumio Nasu.

"Alif, I assigned you to visit the store to buy food. There are American soldiers, so take caution. They have flimsy defenses, those jerks. Nevertheless, Japan will overthrow them in a few days.," Alif received money from Akihiro.

Alif nodded and walked out of the office. He encountered a girl his age on the way to the store. White outfit, white skin, brown hair, and shoes from the Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory (formerly Adidas). Both the girl and Alif grinned at seeing each other. He was surprised to encounter a girl of such beauty.

Oh my God, that lady is gorgeous. Let's meet her again, please.

Koh Li's china store is where Alif goes. When Koh Li noticed Alif's shy smile, Koh Li smote him with his magic fan.

"Hey, why are you grinning maniacally, huh?" Koh Li lowered the fan once more.

"I'm sorry. I recently met a stunning woman, Hehehe."

"What a girl. You'll teach it to your grandchildren, so don't worry. Are you interested in her?"

"Thanks, but no." Koh Li's plea was denied by Alif.

At Koh Li's stand, Alif purchases food. He once more spotted the girl gazing at the flowing river as he paid for his purchases. Alif is apprehensive. He hoped that she would be kind because he truly wanted to get to know her.

Alif came up to him with a plastic shopping bag. Regardless of the plastic, he is still courageous. Breathe in and go on.

Alif attempted to say hello to the girl.

"Hello."

"I didn't see you there, so hello as well. You have a ton of shopping to do." She caught sight of Alif's plastic.

"Yes."

"Wait, I think we've already crossed paths, and here we are again."

"Yes, we did cross paths on the road. Can I ask a question?"

"Sure," you say.

"What's your name?"

"My name is Adna Bell, what's yours?" Adna is the name of the girl.

Alif greeted Adna, "Nice to meet you, I'm Alif Saputra."

Alif bids Adna farewell after learning her name and expresses his desire to reconnect with her. Adna is someone who likes to grin whenever she looks at him, therefore Alif fell in love with her. Akihiro reprimanded Alif when he got to the administrative building.

"Alif, why are you taking so long? All of us are starving! Please hurry and feed the other soldiers!" Alif was instructed to complete his task by Akihiro.

Akihiro sensed something in Alif's physique as he passed him. He disregarded Akihiro's inquisitive gaze. Akihiro went back to his place of business to finish his duties.

Alif is currently composing a letter for his parents inside of his tent. Alif writes his parents in the hamlet a letter once a week. Because it is against the law for soldiers to leave the base unless they are on light duty or on a war mission. One of the men had entered the village and was shot and killed by Japanese troops as a result.

Alif addressed the envelope as he closed the letter-filled envelope, saying, "Mother, father, I hope you are safe there. Alif misses you."

Akihiro observed Alif's actions without Alif's knowledge.

"Alif.," as Akihiro referred to him.

Alif questioned Akihiro, "Brother Hiro? I didn't see you there."

After taking a seat on the bed and taking a glance around Alif's tent, Akihiro questioned, "When you bought food, you didn't pass the American headquarters, did you?"

While Alif only shook his head, Akihiro nods slowly. Then he said, "There won't be any activity tomorrow. You can therefore travel everywhere. as long as you honor your commitment."

"Are you certain, brother?" Alif is ecstatic.

"Sure, I do not doubt that you'll want to take in the scenery. You think this looks like a prison. But the General is acting in this way to protect your nation's security. You too desire freedom. Other than Japan, no other nation could want to occupy Indonesia."

When Akihiro exited his tent after receiving his thanks, Alif bowed politely.

March 2, 1942

Alif left the tent the following morning to mail a letter to his parents. Alif arrived at the post office and recognized Adna, the woman he had seen the day before.

"Adna?" Unconsciously, Alif greeted Adna.

"Hello, Alif. Such a coincidence. What are you doing here?"

"I want to send my parents a letter. They are in the village far away from here."

"You don't reside with your parents?" Adna asks in a perplexed tone.

"Why are you in this town, then?"

"Just working. However, I can assure you that I can't be able to travel to the village."

"Why?"

"Because it's risky, full of soldiers."

Adna simply said, "Okay," fearing that there might be a threat. Before parting ways, the two of them continued their conversation.

"Alif, it's nice to see you again."

"Me too. Adna, see you later.," Adna was split up by Alif.

Alif hears Akihiro calling him at the base. Alif came up to him and asked, "What's wrong, brother?"

"Come with me to the enemy base in a few days. You enlist in our fight as a medic."

Am I entering a war? Alif was enthusiastic but didn't have the courage.

"Okay, I'll try not to be disappointed."

"We're traveling to the eastern American air base. They intend to fly away. We'll get rid of them.

Are there any other doctors besides me?

"Unfortunately, they were unable to arrive; some medical personnel were unable to work and were detained by Americans. Prepare your medical supplies beginning tomorrow; there is a crew that will save them. Don't do anything strange because I'll be in charge of the team."

Alif was thrilled, but he had no idea that he would join Akihiro in the fight against America. Alif wants Japan to triumph over America so that Indonesia will be free of Japanese rule.

March 12, 1942

Alif is in a tent, dressed in a uniform, and holding a rifle in addition to a medical gadget that he is already slinging. Alif never imagined carrying a gun because, throughout his youth, he had only ever seen Japanese and Indonesian soldiers using it. As Akihiro entered his tent, Alif cast a suspicious glance back.

"I don't believe I'm ready yet, brother."

"Don't joke with me, Alif! You promise that you won't let us down. Hurry up, Alif! If we don't act quickly, America will flee and give the win to England."

Alif forced a hard swallow, yet what Akihiro said was accurate. Japan's assistance is necessary for Indonesia to achieve independence. The American air base was their next stop. While Akihiro, Alif, and other soldiers prepared to hijack the American jet carrying some of the soldiers and their commanders out of Indonesia, the team commanded by Akihiro ordered the other soldiers to attack the American soldiers.

"Come on, we can see the plane right in front of us!" Akihiro and the others sprinted in its direction and began to prepare to shoot it down.

Soldiers, officers, and numerous Americans were all invited to the source of the noise by the loud voice. They appeared astonished to learn that the Japanese had damaged the jet they were supposed to board.

"Japan! You snots, you shoot down our aircraft!" The commander of the American army chastised Akihiro.

As it turned out, a woman grasping the Commander's shirt tightly and a young child of Alif's age were behind him. As it turns out, the child is Adna, Alif notices that. the person who Alif recently met and fell in love with.

Alif came up to them and asked, "Adna?"

When Adna first saw Alif, she said, "A-alif? you claimed to work in a store. What brings you to them?"

Alif believes it to be dreadful. Because he had lied to Adna, he was unable to speak. Alif feels disappointed, but Alif believes Adna deserves to be disappointed with him more than he does.

Akihiro guessed Alif, "As I anticipated, you've passed the American headquarters."

"I didn't pass it, brother! She and I have only met twice."

"But Alif, a promise is a promise. I'm disappointed in you. I could smell America in your body as I passed you. Akihiro expressed his speculation.

Alif regretfully turned to Adna and said, "And it turns out he is the son of the American Commander."

"I apologize, Adna.," Alif said sorry to Adna.

"You betrayed, Alif.," Adna shook her head while tears streamed down her face.

"I wanted to escape the suffering of the Japanese, but it turned out that you were helping them.," Adna pulled out the revolver from behind her dress and pointed it toward Akihiro. Alif, who noticed that, sprung into action and leaped.

Alif was struck square in the heart by a little, quick bullet that entered his chest. Japan and America engaged in a gunfight after Alif fell. Adna approached Alif just as he was about to close his eyes.

"I'm sorry, Alif." To awaken Alif, Adna rubbed her chest against his.

Alif said, "Adna, I just wanted to say... I... Love... You," while holding her hand.

Alif closed his eyes as blood trickled from his mouth and sank to the ground. The confession of love from an Indonesian adolescent to an American woman concluded with a fatal incident, which was followed by Adna's sobs. Japan was defeated by America and was able to flee Indonesia as the war concluded.

The end.
