5 Dreams

~Dreams can show us our true selves, and our past. Who we are truly, will be in our dreams~

A sword flashed in my view. Barely dodging to the left, I aimed for the neck. Blocked. Well.... this was gonna be fun.

"Ekhart, Show yourself," I yelled.

No answer. Typical of him. I wonder where my dear husband could be. He is a traitor and usurper after all.

I killed the man in front of me. There is no time for playing on the battlefield. I hear a shoosh off to my right. Close calls today, I see. Blocking my attacker, I look up to see the very man I was looking for. I noticed a small clearing surrounding us. If the soldiers want a show, why not give it?

"Hello, Skylen. Shall we dance, my love?" A silken voice sounds in my ears.

"But of course, that is what I came to do, usurper. Now my dear Ekhart, shall you die?" Softly I answered. I am uncertain whether I can win. He has always been my match in the battleground. Even when we were children.

Slash, Parry, block. Block, slash, block. Second by second, minute by minute, time ticked by ever so slowly. Ekhart was not showing signs of tiring, and I couldn't go for much longer. Bastard was getting stronger.

I slipped. Caught myself only to find his blade at my neck. "Last words, dear wife, before I slice that pretty neck open?" The Snake asked.

"I will kill you Ekhart. Even if I am only a spirit. I. Will. End. You.," I growled.

"Goodbye my love, sweet dreams," Ekhart whispered.

The last thing I felt, I was turning to ash.

Beep, Beep, Beep.

My alarm went off. What an insane dream. Time to see if I can get food. Who knows, maybe she is in a good mood today.

Smelling toast, I go to the kitchen. Mother was frying eggs. She didn't look as I entered the kitchen. "Grab your bread and eat. I don't have all day," Mother muttered. "I want you out of the main house by 7:30. We are having company. I expect you to be silent in your room."

Well, no supper again tonight. Wait, did you think the eggs were for me? No, I only eat bread and sometimes get the occasional lemon. Not much, but it keeps me alive. At least my teeth aren't falling out.

Company? I wonder who is worth risking discovery. There is always a risk when people come over, because my room is next to the bathroom. They could open the wrong door, see me, call the police.

Good joke. I wish that happened. Then I would get the hell out of here. Maybe one day, maybe. Better not get my hopes up, those have a habit of getting crushed before they even start.

I am in my room. Do I want to try to listen? Or play it safe and sleep. I'm guaranteed to get 2 hours minimum before they leave. Choices, such a lovely pain in the ass.

Listening sounds like a good idea. If it gets boring, sleep is great.

"Welcome to our humble abode," I heard my stepfather say. "You must be our new neighbours. Please, make yourself at home. Richerd Skriben is my name, and this is my lovely wife, Helen."

I hear a voice answer. "Thank you for inviting us. I am James Rouge, this is my wife Beth, and my daughter, Ruby."
