12 Vision of The Hunter

In the previous chapter-

Jenny chuckled at his temper and left for her university. There was a sound of soft footsteps. Wait... there was more than one, her own... She stopped walking the sound stopped. She turned back. Nothing. She started walking again. The same thing happened. A chill ran through her body. There was none following me right?

Crack. The door opened. The old man removed his eyes from the piles of old documents and placed on the person before him. The room was messy but all the important things were in their places. The smell of smoke was suffocating.

The man spoke, "Spill it out. "

The young man before him took a deep breath, "Yes sir". He cleared his throat, "Jenny Anderson is a 19 years old girl, attending one of the prestigious universities of Canada, majoring in communication and English Literature. Her size is 34-26-36 and B..."

Mendel glared at him. Liam blushed and continued hurriedly.

"Jenny was born in India, shifted to America because of her father's work when her grandmother died. She's been an introvert ever since her grandmother died, so she doesn't have many friends except her best friend Holly Abbott and recently Noah Wilson. Her brother, Jack Anderson started working a normal to support her after their parents passed away, though he was a talented photographer. The case of their parents is still unsolved. On 12th September..."

Mendel cut him off, "Liam, you look like you want to ask something."

Liam stayed silent for a moment. "Yes sir"

"Spill it out"

"Two questions sir. You've already read the documents many times already, so why keep re-reading it? And why Jenny? It's such an important case. The government is pressuring us. Everybody's doubting your capabilities."

"It's been happening to me since I started pursuing this career. But what matters is, are you one of them?" Mendel lit up his cigarette.

"Oh- well... Not at all" Liam gulped.

"Oh my dear Liam, lying and manipulation are arts. Thoughtful practice will definitely make you better" Mendel said calmly.

Liam was put in an uncomfortable situation. "Uhh I've reasons to be suspicious. "

"So do I Liam. Did Mr. Elvis talk with you today? " He asked.

Liam lowered his head.

"You don't have to be guilty. Everyone becomes suspicious because of experience, desperation, or cowardness. But you've a point."

Liam waited for mendel to continue.

"Observation dear. Observation. Notice people's shoes, feet, hands, shoulders, accessories and clothes. They tell more things than their resume. No, it's not only about body language. I read the documents many times because I can't afford to lose any bit of information we already have. Sometimes you get new information by reading the old ones" Mendel smoked.

Liam listened quietly

Mendel continued, "you've to know the criminals' special habits and think like them. That makes things easier. "

"So what makes you suspicious of jenny Sir? Her dressing style?" Liam asked impatiently.

"Her left hand. "

"What??" Liam asked.

"Hmm, when I first met jenny, her friend was wearing a sharp bracelet. Holly held her hand and it got cut. But fortunately, Jenny hated me a bit too much to notice that. It wasn't something special, until it healed within 3 seconds. " Mendel looked at the ceiling.

"Impossible" Liam said immediately.

"My eyes are more honest than most people's. No mistakes there. "

"Yes but what you're saying is not possible sir. And even if that happens, how does it prove that she killed them? She looks fragile to commit so many murders" he furrowed his eyebrows.

"Uhh seems like you like to defend her" mendel smirked.

"No sir. I just-"

"It's fine. I need someone who thinks the total opposite of me. Anyway, that was mysterious, just like those murders were. In the 12th, 29th and 67th case, the victims had a knife with them, one was even a martial arts champion in national level. They could've harmed the killer but there was no sign of blood. " Mendel said.

"Yet, their face showed exhaustion, as if they fought against someone." Liam said.

"Exactly. The killer could clean the knife and room's floor but what about the other 2 cases in the street? No signs there either. It means, they stabbed the killer but it was healed even before the blood could reach the street. There's a connection Liam. There is. " He closed his eyes and started to drown in his thoughts again.
