4 Vision is Crucial

In the previous chapter-

No way!! Impossible. How could that happen to an average human like her? She stood there blankly. Maybe she was still dreaming. No she couldn't feel hurt in her dreams... right?

Wait... was it because of...? She wanted to smile, cry and bite her nails at the same time. Maybe she was not fooled by him. Maybe she didn't lose her mind. Maybe all of this was not an illusion. Had she... Really become immortal?

"Jenny! Are you okay?" Holly asked. Her face was full of sincerity.

I was very frustrated about what took place earlier that morning, so I almost forgot she was there. I looked at my finger again. So I had become... really immortal?... That felt odd feeling.

Holly pinched my cheek tightly, causing me to come back to reality.

"What?" I said that louder than I intended to.

"What's gotten into you?" She held my hand.

"Nothin'." I turned away.

I wanted time and space to think about that. Couldn't she just leave me alone for a bit?

"Don't lie" she furrowed her eyebrows.

"You're overthinking" I looked at my finger again. There was no way I'd tell her about this. That was absurd to even tell someone. Also, I had to be careful from then on so none suspects me. And even if I she believed me, she'd criticize me. I was sure. She wouldn't understand my mindset, just like Jack.

"Yellow suits you." I said to change the topic. I couldn't wait to get home.

"I asked how are you?" She asked firmly.

"You don't like my compliment?" I winked, my mind was still locked in that dark room.

"It's not like that, but you're hiding something" She was looking straight at me. That made lying more uncomfortable.

"Let me take my compliment back then." I raised my left eyebrow and smirked.

But to be honest, although all had happened so suddenly, I liked it, because those things were what I always wanted; weren't they?

"Noo! Okay, since you complimented me today, I love your white teeth and the dimple right next to your lips when you smile. But tell me what's wrong."

"Didn't expect it to be this sweet. It's my treat today" I smiled and walked faster so it was harder for holly to catch up with me with her heels.

I'd think about those weird things in class I guess. I had strong reason to be immortal anyway. I'd get through that. I even had a superpower.

She sighed. "If you don't wanna tell, I won't force you but hello madam, you're supposed to say 'Thank you'!"

"You're indeed very annoying" I felt the corner of my lips getting higher.

I had achieved my goal. But who was the person in that room? And why did he do this anyway?

*At the meeting of MMIO*

"92 days, 45 murders in 10 different provinces and 3 different territories. No fingerprints, no footprint, no suspects, no weapons found. We, the greatest investigators of the country, are left with NO FUCKING CLUE!" Mr. Anderson glared at us with crossed arms.

Everyone looked down except, me and Mendel sir. Mendel sir was smirking, which made Mr. Anderson furious, as expected.

Although he was the head of MMIO, he didn't have enough power to tell Mendel sir to get out.

"Mr. Mendel, can I ask you what makes you look so pleased?" He tried to keep his voice under control.

"The fact that sir, you're making a simple case complicated." Mendel sir adjusted his tie.

All the members looked at him including me. Simple? What did Mendel sir mean?

Mr. Anderson pushed his spectacles towards his eyes from the tip of his nose. His eyes were widened and looked somehow disgusted.

"Oh, then why don't you explain everything and stop giving us headache Mr. Mendel? You're directly insulting all the investigators here" He gritted his teeth.

Clearly no one was offended. Because deep down, they all respected Mr. Mendel for his brilliance except Mr. Anderson.

Mendel sir snickered while keeping his fingers on his lips.

"I can tell you the whole story and how foolish steps we've been taking but I won't say a word until I find the strongest proof that can be found" Mendel sir smirked.

"Then till then Mr. Mendel, kindly keep your mouth and INSULTING smile shut." Mr. Anderson's eyes shot through Mr. Mendel's body from head to toe.

But poor Mr. Anderson, Mendel sir kept a mysterious smile on his lips.

Mr. Anderson started again.

"Some were killed inside their houses, some were killed on the street at night. That means there is no safe place. But the most surprising thing I find about these cases, is that there is no footage recorded even if there was a CCTV. The CCTV would stop working for 1 minute during the time of murder."

"There were more surprising things, it takes observant eyes to notice them." Mendel sir mumbled this under his breath.

"Okay that's enough for now. Go to your work. Government is giving pressure on us. Keep me updated if you find any news or clues."

Mr. Anderson glared at Mendel sir for the last time before leaving the room.

We started walking down the hallway. The sound of our footsteps filled it. But Mendel sir only walked slower and slower until the whole hallway was empty. He turned to me and what he said made my heartbeat louder, which was exactly what I wanted to hear.

"Liam, we're about to catch the craziest killer our country has ever faced. So brace yourself."
