16 The Spy

In the previous chapter-

Just like that, a week passed quickly and I discovered something. The scenes I had been seeing in my dreams, or rather nightmares, were not imaginary. Sometimes I saw my memories which were blurry when I was awake. Sometimes it was someone else's. I couldn't see who the person was, but I was sure... He wasn't a normal human... Maybe not human at all.

"Mom! Where's my breakfast? I'm late" Holly yelled.

"What's new in that?" Her mom, Selena said calmly.

"Mom, please not again" Holly said.

"Be punctual. When I was at your age, I'd... " Her father James started.

"-Never been late once" Holly finished the sentence while packing her bag.

"You!!! You were punctual and obedient before. God knows what kind of friends you made... Her dad said.

"Father, I'm only close to Jenny" She said.

"Ohh? So it's all because of her? Just as I guessed" James said.

"No! It's not. Moreover, she's my bestie" holly said.

"Then make another! Yes she did you a favor before but now you're competitors... James started.

"I've no interest in being the topper! As long as I stay in the top 5%, I've better things to do" Holly sat to have breakfast.

"That Jenny... James said.

"Yup, it's all her fault" Holly said sarcastically.

"I've got nothing to say!! Just watch and learn. We'll see how long that Jenny keeps being your friend" He started to read the newspaper.

"Holly, be careful. You know there's a murderer... Selena said calmly.

"You're not saying she's the murderer, are you?" Holly glared at her mother.

"Don't glare at me and no, I didn't mean that" her mom looked away from her.

Holly sighed and started to eat.

"We're saying this because we worry about you, you know" Selena said compassionately.

"I know but please care about my happiness too" Holly said.

"It's not always about happiness. You'll understand when you get older" her mom smiled.

"Hope so" she returned the smile.

"Another robbery... The rate of crime is increasing as people are only focusing on those mysterious murders. MMIO is borrowing police force too" Holly's dad said.

"That's a bit scary" Holly said but her father reaction made her wish that she never said that.

"Hm... We're assigning you a bodyguard".

"A bodyguard can't stop the murders. How will it help?" Holly asked.

"No more questions" her dad left for office in a hurry.

"Seems like I'm not the only one who's late" Holly said. Selena chuckled.

"Holly, James and I are just worried, please understand. "

Holly nodded and left for university and met her bodyguard.

"Hello, I'm Holly, what's your name sir?" She asked.

After a moment the muscular man said, "Erwin Kung."

Following that, there was an awkward silence.

She met Jenny and Noah on the way.

"Eh? You two are going together?..."

"Oh, no. We met on the way. But who's that man? Your bodyguard?" Jenny jokingly asked.

"Uhh actually he is" holly replied.

"Bodyguard?!!!" Noah and Jenny asked at the same time.

"Woww" said Noah.

"He's Mr. Kung and it's awkward as hell to have a bodyguard" whispered Holly.

Jenny stayed silent. She'd seen that man somewhere... Somewhere important but she forgot where...

Professor William entered the class. Jenny caught him staring at her, without actually paying any attention.

So... That's the girl?

Their exams were going on and so was the mysterious murders. Nights became days and days became nights, hanging with friends and family, spending nights studying. Jenny's life was on the verge of returning to normal. However...

Jenny lost. She totally failed to notice it until it became painfully obvious. That was the result of suppressing her gut feelings. They were watching her, noticing every move of hers. When those certain strangers stopped following her, someone else took their place. No, Jenny wasn't seeing things. She had a witness. But... Who were they? Were they anyhow related to her powers or the person who gave her the powers?
