20 The Realistic Nightmare

In the previous chapter-

I slept early, and the nightmare started like this-

I was in a different person's perspective. I didn't know whose it was. I saw all people gather around me, whispering to each other and waiting for the moment. The moment when... I'd be executed??____________________________________

My body wasn't in my control. I'd felt this feeling before. I looked at someone and said, "Please help me Cloves".

The man looked down and said, "I'm sorry but it's out of mind hands".

I looked at someone else and said "please... It wasn't my fault"

The lady sobbed, "It wasn't your fault. We all know that. But..." She started to cry.

I've done something I shouldn't have... Couldn't I undo my mistake? Even though I didn't know what was wrong with my actions... I couldn't die like this... Father would definitely listen. I was sure that he'd listen. Then the moment came, when the executioner entered the hall, who was my own father.

My heart started pounding. It wasn't hope. It was the fear of him.

I jumped out of my bed.

What was that? Who were all those people? I was out of breath. It felt too real to be just a nightmare.

I went downstairs to find Jack. He wasn't there. He probably made his own breakfast and left... It happened every time we fought... He'd give me a cold shoulder and act super distant. I lost count of the times I cried because of this.

I wanted to share the nightmare with him... I sighed. I wonder if he even thought about me twice today.

But why did all those faces seemed so familiar? What a weird dream. Me executed? The immortal Jenny?

The word "immortal" put me in a different mood. In a paradise.

The weekend came. The streets were crowded, even the buses were crowded. Holly got a seat far away from us in that crowded bus. We were going to an orphanage. She asked us to go do some volunteer work with her, and we agreed.

"Jenny, why did you choose communication and English Literature as your major?" Noah asked.

As I was about to answer, my wrist got cut by my sharp bracelet. It healed immediately. It was a normal thing to me. It had been like this for 6 months. But I felt like Noah also stared at it even though he looked away as soon as I looked at him.

It made me nervous. He would think he was seeing things... right? I looked away and pretended as if nothing happened.

"Jenny?" He asked.

"Yeah?" I controlled the tone of my voice.

"You didn't answer my question-" He said.

"Oh yeah, um what was it? Yeah, I chose them as my major because I wanted to be a public relation manager... Just like my father. W-what about you?"

"Hm, my parents chose those as my majors because I was good at it." He said.

"But you're pretty good at hacking too" I said. My heart was pounding. But I didn't lie. It was a big deal to hack your professor's computer.

"Yeah... But my parents didn't want that" He looked at my wrist for a bit and then looked away.

I decided to divert his attention, "Hey Noah, did you find anything about the spies? With your amazing hacking skills?" I asked.

He was in a daze. I patted his shoulder.

"Hm? Yeah. The contact saved as 'his bestie' was of an officer named Mendel Knight as you said. I'll try to hack his computer" he said.

"It won't be easy I guess" I said.

"Yes, he won't let his guard down after all. But have faith in me Jenny" Noah said.

"I already do" I smiled.

He smiled gently.

"Uhh by the way, have you noticed?" I whispered and pretended not to talk by not moving my lips much.

"Yeah" he copied my way.

Holly's bodyguard had been staring at us instead of Holly the whole time. Even in university. Even in the bus.

A man pushed the bodyguard by saying "Come on, don't make this more crowded. Stand properly" and the other people started to argue as well. Finally the bodyguard backed off.

"Finally... " I sighed.

"Jenny... you know you can share things with me..." Noah said.

After thinking for a while, I told him everything. He was the only one who could help me in that situation. But I lied about the reason Mendel suspects me. I told him I didn't know why Mendel did it.

After listening to everything he said, "hmm, maybe we're not the suspects, but we're related to the suspects. Mr. Mendel seemed like a cunning man, so he probably made it seem like you're his main focus."

"What do you mean? Jack can't do that and Holly is too innocent. I'd rather have them suspect me" I said.

Noah flinched, "I-"

"I know you don't want it too" I said to comfort him.

"Oh, thanks. But yes there's a high chance they suspect Holly. Maybe they were following Holly too like they're following us. Holly's parents must have noticed it and assigned her a bodyguard" he said.

"Hm... Maybe but I highly doubt that" That was next to impossible because I knew the reason for Mendel's suspicions.

"I see" Noah looked at me then looked at Holly who was waving at us from a seat that was far away. "You two must have been friends for a long time" he said.

"Yeah, though I don't believe that time is the only thing that defines how close two people are" I said. Noah's face brightened. It was meant for him after all.

"So... how did you become friends?" he asked.

"Heh, that's a long story. I'll tell you after you tell me how you learned to hack" I chuckled.

But he looked uneasy.

"Can we... not talk about this please?" he asked.
