24 The Fight Begins

In the previous chapter-

Liam came to Mendel's office and was about to tell him about the things he found out about when Mendel told him to shut up and smirked.

"Dear, did you see that? Someone is trying to hack our computer. Guess who it is?" He asked.

"Mr. Elvis?" Liam asked.

"Oh no no. It's Noah. Jenny's new friend. The mysterious one" Mendel kept smiling in an odd way.

"Why would he do that? Isn't that stupid?" Liam asked.

"Actually he's very skilled. I wouldn't have been able to catch him if I didn't put extra security for this case" Mendel smirked.

Liam was confused. Even most experienced hackers couldn't hack Mr. Mendel's computer.

"I didn't read anything about his background. Couldn't find much about him. Is it because he has erased most of his own data? But why? Was he involved in some sort of crime?" Liam asked.

Mendel sighed.

"Who knows dear. Lots of hackers like to erase their data for fun. A weird yet wise choice. I definitely want to meet this guy" He smoked.

"Oh. So he'd probably be dissapointed that he couldn't hack your computer and we know that he tried to hack, sir" Liam said.

"How will he know that Liam?" Mendel said with a smirk.

Liam was confused again. That smirk...

"Sir!! Do you really want to do it? Why?" He asked in a half shouting voice.

"Uhh because it's fun. It's good to do fun things sometimes even if you're old" Mendel chuckled in a way that made Liam feel uncomfortable.

"What will we gain by letting Noah hack our computer and see our data?" Liam asked.

"Oh dear, we'll seem less suspicious that way. Being underestimated is one of the biggest competitive advantage you can have. There's only some data in that computer anyway" Mendel said.

"But sir!! He'll know about the data we know" Liam furrowed his eyebrows.

"Those data can be learned from anywhere. Those aren't important. The important thing is what we take from that data and I never write them down. It's a curse yet a blessing" Mendel's eyes looked lifeless.

Liam stood there. He had so many questions and points to talk about but his sympathy and affection for Mendel covered his mouth and took his ability to speak.

Some stray gods started to bark.

"If you're worried that he'll get to know about something important then relax. It won't happen. I want them to think a certain way. That makes things easier but with Jenny's mind, it's going to be a bit difficult" Mendel smoked. He closed his eyes with satisfaction.

Why was he satisfied Liam wondered. The death of his father... He thought he was just being a cry baby. Not everything revolved around that... or did it?

"So Liam, what did you find from the data?" Mendel asked.

Liam told him everything.

"Not a bad start" Mendel smirked.

Wait. Was there more to discover? Liam became determined to check them again.

"Liam, you don't have to find everything today. Sometimes you've to wait for the right timing or things can frustrate you dear" Mendel said.

It was hard to understand the reason he said that. What timing? Liam wondered.

'If not now then when?' this was what Liam's father taught him. Which principle would be better to follow?

Liam looked at the sky and the moon. It was lonely and helpless.

The morning was beautiful. Holly hugged me as soon as we met.

"Woah, you seem very happy Holly" I said.

"Yes my love" Holly giggled. "My parents said they won't get me another bodyguard. I didn't even have to argue with them! They just said so. Oof I was so embarrassed to have a bodyguard walking behind me while everyone was staring at me and thought he was a stalker" She chuckled.

Wait. Why did they do that? Why did they assign a bodyguard in the first place? If it's for the mysterious murders then why did they tell Holly that she wouldn't have a bodyguard anymore? They wouldn't do it just to please Holly as they're very anxious and caring of her.

Then... Was it... Did Mendel blackmail Holy's parents? He liked to play offense as defense so it was possible that he did it. But it must have took more than that to convince Holly's father as he was a very skeptical man.

What did he do? Was the leave of the bodyguard meant Holly was safe? Or was it just a warning? Maybe the rest would be more dangerous. I didn't want to play actively in this play but things were getting out of hands. Involving Holly... and who knew if they kept eye on Jack too. Not them. Maybe Noah was in danger too. But he was my only companion in this situation.

Someone tapped on my shoulder. I glared at that person. It was Noah. Holly was standing beside him, dumbfounded.

"Jenny, you okay?" She asked.

"Yeah. Totally. Why?" I said in a chill way.

"Hm, you didn't listen or reply to anything I said for about a minute. It's not like you. You're a great listener" She said in a worried voice.

I smiled and patted her head and told her I was okay.

I looked at Noah. He nodded. He had the data I desired to know. Even a bit of information would be enough.
