Chapter 02: “How They Met.”

Somewhere near the subway, a woman clad in a red dress was playing on her phone. She was waiting for her boyfriend to show up, she was so excited and waited. However, her boyfriend didn't show up and texted her that he was busy working extra hours at his office. The girl was disappointed and called him,

"I'm breaking up with you!",

She was so angry that she didn't pay attention to where she walked to. She crossed the subway without looking at the traffic light and a truck happened to pass by. She didn't remember anything after that, the moment she realized she had become a ghost. She wandered at the subway and saw a few officers carrying her body into the ambulance.

I see, so I was already dead-- she thought to herself.

That day, she was thinking about her boyfriend and went to his apartment. She thought her boyfriend was mourning her, but it turns out, he was sleeping with another woman. The girl was so heartbroken until she slapped her sleeping boyfriend. However, it was futile… she is a ghost now, so she couldn't touch anything anymore. Unable to do anything, the girl went outside dejectedly and went to her favorite park. She sat down while crying, but no tears seemed to be coming out from her pretty face. She was at her worst, crying, angry, and betrayed. She thought her boyfriend loved her but it turns out she was just probably one of his women. She was all alone at the park, she sat down at the park's bench without doing anything. She just sat there until the sky turned dark and the kids who played at the park went home with their parents. She couldn't stand being alone, so she went somewhere with more people. In the end, she walked aimlessly and went back to the subway where she died.

"Hey, did you hear that someone was died here due to an accident?",

The girl realized that two high schoolers were talking about her incident. She walked up to them and overheard their conversation.

"I don't think you should talk about it.", Shen Xiaofan took a sip of her bubble tea while holding a crepe in her other hand. Song Ehuang pouted and asked, "Why is that?",

"It's rude for the deceased. It was an accident so they died without knowing why and you just talked about how they died like a gossip.",

"...", Song Ehuang fell silent, she realized it does sound rude, "I guess you're right.",

The woman looked at Shen Xiaofan more and observed her. She has long straight black hair, red lips, an adorable nose bridge, and an excellent attitude. The woman thought she had become a ghost and had nothing to do. Besides, she needed a place to stay. Roaming around the world can be tiring even for a ghost. The girl looked at Shen XIaofan and found out that Shen Xiaofan is a student at the high school not far from the subway. She rejoiced from her heart and stayed at the school as her new home.

However, there's actually another ghost living in the school. He was Luo Bojing, a male ghost who lived on the 3rd floor at the school. It just happens that Luo Bojing was also a lonely ghost and needed a friend, so the woman agreed to be his friend and he let her occupy the 1st floor. The next day, the girl watched many students exchanging their shoes at the entrance. She spotted Shen Xiaofan come with Song Ehuang and Hou Yang. For some reason, Shen Xiaofan appeared to be the brightest one among them. The girl had no idea why but she has watched them closely since then. Although, she didn't mean to show herself, but sometimes her figure could be seen on the mirror reflection. She asked Luo Bojing and he said a ghost can appear in front of a human's naked eyes. But it requires spiritual energy, since the girl has just become a ghost recently, she doesn't know anything and studied to control her spiritual energy with Luo Bojing. After she had gotten a handle of her spiritual power, she decided to run an experiment. At the female toilet bathroom, where there were several female students washing their hands, she appeared behind and spoke them out. The female students were shocked and terrified, they ran in panic and screamed 'ghost!' through the hallway. It was quite funny for the girl and she decided to scare some of the girls. This childish act of her has spread through the school and began to create rumors about her appearance.

However, she didn't expect Shen Xiaofan to come to the female toilet. She occupied the female toilet on the 2nd floor, Shen Xiaofan's classroom was on the first floor, so why did she come here?

Shen Xiaofan entered the female toilet to wash her hands. Today was an art lesson on the second floor, her hands were painted with several colors due to Song Ehuang's prank. She didn't realize that there was someone sitting on the sink next to her. After that, she just left. The girl wondered, did Shen Xiaofan haven't heard the rumors about her? How come did she dare to come here?

The woman followed Shen Xiaofan out of curiosity, later she found out that Shen Xiaofan didn't believe in the rumors. With this she had tried various pranks to scare her, however, Shen Xiaofan seemed to think all of these were an act from other students.

In the end, the woman gave up and sat in the gymnastic room dejectedly. However, she didn't expect to have spotted a couple of students secretly kissing at the gymnastic room. It reminded her of her cheating boyfriend, their relationship was 3 years long. How come he's still not satisfied with her? She had done anything that he asked, especially during sex. However, she was just another woman whom he had slept with. Facing the same betrayal and resentment, the woman cried again. She didn't know how long she had cried, but suddenly someone was offering a handkerchief to her.

"Are you okay?",

It turns out to be Shen Xiaofan who gave her the handkerchief. She was shocked because Shen Xiaofan can see her. However, it turns out her spiritual energy had overlapped and accidentally appeared in front of Shen Xiaofen. She looked around and saw that no one was there. In the end, she accepted the handkerchief and thanked her.

"Are you looking for someone? I can help you to find them if you want to.",

"No, I was just…",

The woman couldn't say anything else, she's a ghost who had lived here for two days. She didn't prepare an excuse to be here…

"I was just sad that my boyfriend cheated on me, so I cried here.",

Shen Xiaofan was confused, how come an adult stranger is here to cry? Shen Xiaofan felt that something was wrong but she couldn't find it out. So, she offered a suggestion instead, "I don't know what happened, but I can say if you want to cry you might want to use the restroom here. Because we often had gymnasium practice here, I'm afraid you might get hit by something during the practice. Do you want me to take you to the restroom?",

The woman couldn't laugh or cry, this girl is really bad at consoling others. However, it sounded funny and strangely reassuring to her.

"No, I think I will just go back… home.",

"Okay, do you want me to take you to the entrance?",

"Sure.",

Shen Xiaofan didn't realize she had accompanied a ghost to the exit door and the two went to the school entrance.

"What's your name?", the woman suddenly asked.

"I'm Shen Xiaofan and I went to this school.",

"In what year?",

"First year.",

The two chatted for a while until it's time to go home.

"That's the bell, I have piano lessons today. Forgive me for being incapable of accompanying miss anymore.",

"It's alright, you have been a great help.",

"I just did what others might do.",

Shen Xiaofan bowed to the woman and walked away, however, she seemed to hear something,

"Wei Xiu.",

She was surprised and turned back only to find that no one was there. She felt a chill and returned to the classroom as soon as possible. Wei Xiu? Who could that be?
