4 Chapter 3: Asgard

The next day James' would leave Brooklyn for the big war in Europe. He had not left Diana's side ever since that kiss they shared earlier that day. The girl had sneaked up the first flight of stairs to her apartment and opened the window that was only a few inches from James' face. The man had jumped up, pulling himself over the window sill and into her rooms.

The moment that James' feet landed on the floorboards of her rooms, he pulled Diana into his arms. The kiss that they shared seconds ago outside continued, deeper and sloppier than before, as the cover of the walls gave both of them more courage.

James' hands burned against Diana's skin as he pulled off the dress she was wearing with ease. It was the first time the girl had done anything with a man, and her hands trembled as she unbuttoned his uniform. James' placed his hands on hers, calming her down with the slight touch.

"Don't be scared," He whispered into her ear as his lips traced the crook of her neck; it was long and slender, just as he had remembered it to be. He threw off his soldier's jacket and ripped open the buttons on his shirt.

"I'll be gentle, I promise," He whispered again as he looked deep into Diana's green eyes, his hand cupping her jaw as he spoke. He then went in to kiss the girl, and she kissed him back.

One step back, then two, and before Diana knew it, her back collided with the soft mattress of her bed, and James was on top of her, pressing her petite body deeper into the cloud that hugged her.

Diana had fallen asleep listening to James' heart pound; it was slow and steady as the breathing calmed both of them down. But, when Diana woke up, she was alone in her bed. Alone but not sad. The girl bit her lip as Diana could not help but smile. Then, with the cover placed neatly on her naked body, she sat up in bed. It had been her first time, and by only thinking of the events of hours before, Diana felt her heart pound loudly as her face turned red.

On the pillow next to her was a letter addressed to her. As she opened it, she smiled, remembering the touch of James' hands, and she could smell the scent of him lingering on the letter.

"Diana, I love you, and I wish I could see you once more before I leave for the war. The bus leaves at eleven. If you would like to see me off, I would be happy to see you one last time. Love, James Bucky Barns,"

Diana pressed the paper up to her face, inhaling the scent of his cologne and smiled. She gazed over to the watch that hung on the wall above the dining table. 9 am. The girl looked outside through the window and smiled at the sun. It was a lovely day, and she could not help but giggle as she walked over to the showers.

When Diana stepped out of the shower, she picked out a cute white dress with small flowers on, and she paired it with white heels.

The girl made her way to the kitchen, made a few sandwiches, chicken salad sandwiches, and placed them inside a small bag. Next, she filled a bottle up with lemonade that the girl had made herself a few days ago.

Diana smiled and walked out the door, locking it, walking down the few steps of stairs, the bag in her hand, and walking out into the sunny day.

The moment Diana stepped outside, she was rushed with a strange feeling. As if something was going to happen, something terrible.

"Di!" Diana turned around and saw Vicky running up to her, and her smile covered the concern.

"Vicky," She breathed out the girl's name. Then, smiling somewhat as she looked down, trying to hold in the memories of the night with James.

"You look dressed up, Di. Are you going somewhere? Oh! You're meeting a boy?" The girl said with a fluttering and exciting voice. Her eyelashes also fluttered as she gazed into Diana's eyes, a smirk on her face.

"Yes, I am," Diana said as she looked down, her hands holding the bag filled with packed lunch for James. The girl's friend jumped up and down, clapping her hands in enjoyment.

"I knew it!"

"Calm down, Vicky. I met him last night. Well, I met him a long time ago, but last night," Diana said, her cheeks red as she looked down on the bag and cleared her throat.

"Last night?" Vicky asked with a smirk on her lips, her arms wrapped around one of Diana's as they both started to walk away.

"Tell me everything," Vicky smirked, knowing that the girl she was holding had never been with a man before, much like Vicky herself. However, the younger girl was well-known as a romantic and wanted to know everything about the events that had happened to her friend—every last detail.

Diana smiled shyly and looked at Vicky before lowering her voice and told her friend the truth.

"He used to be a student of mine," She whispered the words, and Vicky could not contain her giggles.

As they walked down the street, the two of them could see the bus standing on the side of the road, ready to depart at any second—the crowd around the bus was notable, Diana thought. People were saying their goodbyes to families and loved ones as the men would be shipped off to the wars in Europe.

Diana hated war for what it had done to her family, as her mother was slaughtered as well as everyone she knew. However, she knew that something like war was inevitable when the male species ruled, as they would always find a way to compare sizes. Something that women would never do. And even though the chaos—creatures had a Queen to follow, the Asgardians had a King, and the King felt threatened by a woman in power, only because the Queen refused to serve him and use chaos—creature powers to torture and fight in wars.

Diana looked into the crowd, hoping to find the handsome gentleman from last night. And, at the back of the line holding a bag, stood he, talking to what seemed to be a younger boy, skinny and fragile. It was James. Diana just knew it was.

She smiled and looked at Vicky before she clenched the lunch bag she had packed for him and walked right up through the crowd. It took only a second for the boy to notice the girl zigzagging through the people, and before she even got halfway through, he was smiling and walking up towards her.

"Diana, you came!" He shouted over the people talking in the crowd, afraid that the girl would not be able to hear his voice otherwise. The girl, who had magical abilities, knew well and listened well, only for his voice. She smiled and nervously looked back at his handsome face and noted the seductively yet nervous smile that the counterparty had plastered on his.

He embraced the girl, inhaled the scent of mint and firey roses that lingered on the naked skin that poked through between the girl's dress and hair. He could not have loved anything more than the smell of Diana.

As the two parted, there was a slight cough beside them. The skinny boy that James had been talking to before Diana caught his eyes.

"Bucky, the bus is leaving," The boy said. Diana noted that the boy's face looked older than his body, almost as if it did not belong to it.

"Right, I should go," James said and looked back to Diana, who held up the lunch bag quickly and gave it to him.

"I packed lunch," She said nervously and looked down. As James accepted the bag, Diana looked up and smiled. James took a step back, unwillingly, as he heard the man shout that the bus would be leaving in seconds.

"I," James began, and Diana looked longingly into his eyes, and she could not help but frown at the distance between them. James looked back at the bus before quickly pulling Diana up against him, placing his lips on hers, and kissing her deeply.

"I'll see you when I get back. I promise to write," The handsome man said, looking deeply into the girl's eyes before running to catch up with the bus that had only seconds ago closed the doors. Diana looked as the man ran away from her. She could not help but stand there in a daze, still mesmerised by his lips on hers.

"We should go," The voice came from behind her as a pair of hands grabbed ahold of Diana's arm, pulling her away from the crowd and back into the calm of the street.

As they crossed the corner, walking further away from the crowded street, Diana could sense something. Diana did not know what, only that something felt strange, a shift in the air around them, or maybe something in the chaos.

Diana shrugged it off and smiled at Vicky, who had been speaking since James had gotten onto the bus.

Without warning, a dagger soared through the air towards the two girls, unnoticed until Diana's hand caught it before Vicky's face could be pierced.

"Holy-" Vicky screamed out, trying to breathe as she could see the sharp edge of the dagger only a few inches away from her nose. Diana breathed out heavily, as she was impressed at herself for being able to catch it in the air within seconds. Then she bit her lip, realising that someone had tried to kill Vicky, and Diana's eyes gazed around, scanning for the perpetrator. At the corner of her eye, she could see a few shadows, and before she knew it, she had thrown the dagger towards the shadow. Unfortunately, the blade went through the shield's metal that one of the figures held instead of its body. Diana stood in front of Vicky, pressing her friend's tiny body behind herself, shielding the girl from any harm.

"Asgardians," Diana breathed out as she saw the shadow of three warrior-looking types.

"Hecaté, long time no see," The voice came from one of the shadows, and Diana sighed as she saw the man walk over towards them. She knew who he was, and Diana detested the man for everything he had done. The last time she saw him, the man stood over a young girl with his dagger to the girl's throat. But for her life, Diana could not remember the man's name, so he was only met with silence.

"She's stronger than expected," The voice came from behind the shield that the dagger had pierced. Diana looked at them as they started to walk closer. Diana pushed up her hand into the air, clenching her fingers, making them slightly tremble and cramp up. She was using her magic, making the Asgardians stop and cramp up as well. Diana turned to Vicky and smiled somewhat.

"Run, Vicky," She said calmly to the girl as she turned back to the frozen and suffocating Asgardians. Vicky ran off reluctantly, even though she knew that there was nothing she could do to help her friend. Vicky knew that the best she could do to help was not to be anywhere around.

As soon as Vicky had run around the corner, Diana took a step towards the Asgardians.

"What do you want from me? And attacking a human so easily like that, how can you call yourselves anything else than psychotic murderers?" Diana's hand cramped up more as her left joined.

Even though Diana's magic had no colours, there was a slight difference, a slight blur around her hands, something that the frozen Asgardians could see.

"How can she be this powerful?" The Asgardian woman whispered as she tried to move, unable to do so.

"She's a chaos—creature, Sif," The man said and frowned.

"Humans reak of chaos," Diana whispered as she took another step towards the two of them. She turned her cramped up hand with her palm facing the sky only to squeeze her hands into fists. Diana maintained eye contact with the two of them as they started to choke and cough for air. Finally, both of them fell to their knees, gasping for air as Diana stood there, clenching her fists harder, bringing the air out from their lungs.

"This is what you get for attacking an innocent—" Diana was cut off as another dagger came flying through the air towards her. And once again, the girl caught it without hesitation. She looked over to the side where the blade had come flying from, and she lost control over the two Asgardians that she had been choking with her magic.

"The King of Asgard seek you, Hecaté, daughter of Perseus," The man spoke as he stepped out of the shadows. Diana felt her blood boil as they called her by the name she hated the most. The name which associated her with the man who killed her mother.

"My name's Diana," The girl growled as she threw the dagger towards the man, launching it into his shoulder. He screamed out in pain, and Diana looked down, hiding the torture she felt from doing such an act. She pressed out her hand as she noticed that the two others had started to draw their weapons, and they both stopped as her fingers pressed against the air.

"They never learn, do they?" Diana breathed out as she slowly moved her out-pressed hand to the side, almost as if she was about to shake their hands, then quickly moved her hand in a slapping motion with two of her fingers instead of her whole hand. Her movement was to snap their necks where they stood frozen, but before she could do anything, Diana heard a large clunk, and something large and heavy was attached around her neck. Diana gasped at the cold metal and clasped her hands on the thing. Then, horrified, she turned around, and her gaze was met by someone she recognised.

"You," Diana began and clenched her hand, trying to use her magic.

"Ah, ah, ah," The man said in a smirk and tapped the metal choker around the girl's neck.

"I've learned a few things over the years about your kind," The man said as he looked at Diana. But the girl was not ready to kneel down to someone such as the man before her. She knew the man as the son of the King of Asgard.

Diana could see the dagger still in the shield as the other three walked over, and without a second thought, she grabbed it. Then, Diana went for the man who stood before her, the blonde man that had imprisoned her with the metal choker around her neck. She slashed with the dagger, moving quickly, and between the slashing of the knife, she hit him with her fist. The girl screamed out as she felt the brutal impact of his jaw on her fist, breaking it. The man grabbed her arm, and she screamed out again.

Diana was in pain. The very touch of the man was bruising the milky skin on her bones. Without her powers, Diana was not stronger than the average human woman.

"What have you done to me?" Diana cried out as she fell limp to the ground.

"That thing around your neck suppresses your powers. It's laced with the fire lotus flower. I heard that it has a numbing effect on chaos—creatures just like yourself," The man said and grabbed Diana's arm, pulling her up to her feet. He grabbed ahold of her waist, and with his hammer in his hand, the man lifted his other hand to the sky.

"Heimdal!" The man shouted out, and the bridge opened for them. Pulling them all back to Asgard. Diana reluctantly held onto the man as the force pulling them up was powerful, and Diana was scared to fall off as the metal choker was making her as fragile as a human.
