5 Ignorance Is Indeed A Bliss

"And that concludes our practice for today. You really are commendable Eureka. You're able to synchronize with us within just a week," Feena complimented as they ended their practice.

Eureka just smiled without it reaching her eyes.

"I shall take my leave then. I still have something to do," Eureka politely said and without hesitation, turned around to leave.

"She rarely chats with us, don't she?" Karen commented as they watched her leaving back.

"More like she never chat with us," Hideyoshi added.

"That girl really, she finally had some people whom she can talk to, who are on the same age range. Why does she still love staying alone?"

"HEADMASTER!" everyone was shocked to see Kaoru behind them watching Eureka leave.

"That's not good guys, how come you didn't notice me here. If I'm an enemy you'd be dead already," Kaoru instantly lectured.

"But then, seeing how you didn't even budge when I suddenly talked. You did know I approached you silently, didn't you Raven?"

"I noticed your footsteps," he simply replied.

"Good, good, that's a good knight for you," he nodded his head in approval.

"See here, no matter how distracted you are, you should always leave at least a tenth of your attention to your surroundings or else a surprise attack would kill you in a battle," he seriously faced the others afterward.

"We understand headmaster," the others agreed respectfully.

"Uhmmm, headmaster?" Karen asked hesitantly.

"Yes?"

"When we treated Eureka's wounds one week ago we saw the scar on her left shoulder. And we asked her how she was able to enter the school. Her answer was that she fought against you and the other instructors."

"Yes, that would be correct."

"But did she fight against you a life or death battle? For her to receive that scar?"

Everyone silently looked at the headmaster. Except for Raven who was standing on the side, not facing the headmaster but still listening.

"That scar is really what gave her the opportunity to enter the academy," Kaoru started.

*****

"So you really are here."

"Leader," without looking Eureka replied to the one who spoke.

"Raven would be much better than 'leader'," he replied with a frown as he approached her.

They are currently on the Physical Training Area.

"How did you know I am here?"

There are two training areas in the academy the Ability and the Physical.

"The headmaster told me and he told us the story of your enrollment. Let's spar," he pulled out his sword and faced her.

"That blabbermouth," she replied and faced him for a sparring.

*****

"I am Eureka's guardian, you remember that right?" Kaoru started.

The group nodded. He told them about it a week ago.

"The reason for that is because I am the first person who found her before we found out that she had lost her memories."

"What does that mean?" they were confused at this sudden information.

"Well, I found her in the forest, in one of my afternoon walks and she was gravely wounded. She fainted moments after I saw her and I had no other choice but to bring her to the school infirmary," he shrugged as he recollected.

"After a week she woke up but she doesn't know anything. So I ended up being her guardian and that was 5 years ago. And then as time passes by she started speaking to me but only regarding the knights."

He shook his head remembering how she had nagged him about her questions.

"I explained to her that not even once did a zero enrolled in the academy. But that girl, I don't know where she took her interest in being a knight, insisted that she needs to become one."

They found this quite interesting as they listened to him much more attentively.

"Headmaster we've brought the coffee you requested and the cookies," before the headmaster could continue a butler interrupted.

"Oh perfect timing while I tell the story why don't we have a snack. It is a beautiful night after all," he said and offered them the cookies while the butler served them coffee.

After settling down, to the bewilderment of the group.

"Anyway, so she came up with a brilliant idea that if I lose to her in a battle, she can enroll," Kaoru continued as he started munching down on the cookies.

"Of course, I accepted it, knowing that she'd just lose but to my surprise, she can actually fight on par with some of the instructors," he acted shock even now.

They nodded their heads, thinking that that must be the reason she was able to enter.

"Indeed she was strong, but what showed me her real strength was when we got ambushed while returning to the kingdom, coming from the northern kingdom," Kaoru seeing their looks explained farther knowing what they are thinking.

"Before anyone in the carriage could react she pushed me down and suddenly a wind spear hit the carriage and hit her. If that spear hit me I would have been dead," he shuddered upon remembering that scene.

Despite the blood furiously flowing from her wound she stood up instantly and went outside the carriage and blocked the water and wind arrows that came showering down.

Kaoru thought then that the view of her back blocking the attacks coming from all directions was magnificent.

And he realized just what talent she actually has.

It's not an ability but instead, Eureka actually had high sensitivity that she can feel an ability attack or ability user from a long distance.

"I and my two other companions who should be guarding us watched in awe and was only brought back to reality when she shouted," he added with a chuckle.

Kaoru cleared his throat before continuing, "'HEY I AM NOT SOME FREAK SHOW HERE, YOUR HELP WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED', that was totally hilarious. But when we went to help her, she instructed us of where the attackers were and on what type of ability they were using."

"She can detect that?" Karen couldn't help but comment.

"Yes she can, she is far more amazing than how others see her," Kaoru proudly replied.

"And that's what made you decide to allow her to enroll and be a knight?" Mamoru asked.

"Nope not entirely it was her words after that event," he chuckled upon saying this.

"Words?"

"Yes, her words. I asked her why does she want to be a knight so bad when she had no memories of her past, I thought she'd say something like 'to find my family' but no, what she told me was 'A knight is cool'."

He once again laughed, those memories were truly fun to remember.

"I feel like hitting her head back then but she just smiled, the first smile she ever showed even though it didn't reached her eyes and said 'I can influence someone and change their perspective in life that could bring a different future than what they are already walking on.' It was a bit cliché but somehow something urged me to let her go."

"Cliché indeed, so she has that kind of side how surprising," Hideyoshi commented.

"Well that's that, I also felt after that incident that she'll be a great asset to the kingdom if she becomes a knight."

He stood up, patted his clothes before looking at them, "So that ends our storytelling, now go to your rooms and rest. Or go take a shower anything you like, while me? I'm leaving."

The group was once again bewildered as they watched him leave, he was just seriously telling a story moments ago.

Now he was leaving while the things they used were being cleaned up by some servants.

As he passed by Raven, "She really needs a good training partner right now. So if you have nothing else to do she's currently in the Physical Training Area."

*****

"So he asked you to come here to be my training partner? You have so much free time, haven't you?" Eureka said as their swords clash.

"Not really, I just felt like training some more that's all. The others are already too lazy to have additional training," he shrugged.

They kept sparring until late at night, after hours of sword fight they finally decided to leave.

"Why do you want to become a knight?" as they walked towards the dormitory Raven asked.

"I wonder," Eureka vaguely answered.

Seeing how she evades the question, he didn't continue asking. He's not a nosy person anyway, he just asked cause he felt like there's something big hidden beneath her words to the headmaster.

Once she finally returned to her room, she lied down on her bed with her eyes closed.

~"Why do you want to become a knight?"~

Her eyes opened but no emotion could be seen from them.

'I just had no choice. Even if I didn't want to I must become a knight. My life were already planned out after all.'

To be a knight then to be trusted then finally be able to move forqard with her duties.

She sighed as she thought of all the things she needed to do.

'You all are lucky, you have no idea of what is going on around you. Ignorance indeed is a bliss.'

She actually see Raven's group as people younger than her, they were all ignorant. That staying longer with them and knowing that they are having fun.

She couldn't help but mock them in her mind.
