Chapter 44: Grandma Sorry

Zariah

“What’s bothering you Zariah?” my mom asks as I help her wash the dishes after dinner. “Something seems to be on your mind lately, and it seems to be more than just your usual worries about becoming Beta.”

“Oh, yeah… there’s a lot going on right now,” I tell her as she hands me the plate she’s just rinsed. I wish I could tell her everything like I used to do when I was little, and she could help me sort it all out, but that’s not likely to happen.

But I do remember that I meant to ask her a question the other day when I got back from the library, and my date-not-a-date with Greg prevented me from doing so. “Mom, I’m not named for anyone, am I?” I ask, taking another plate and putting it into the dishwasher. We are almost done, and I’m hopeful I’ll have a chance to go look at the book some more. I’m comparing it to a map of the territory and trying to figure out what places the five clues might be referring to.
