The Wedding Night -2

"Yes."

'So she is a commoner.' Violet thought to her herself.

"And may I ask her name, Your Majesty?"

Violet did not understand why she kept asking questions to the Emperor who looked disinterested to continue the conversation.

Perhaps it was her nerves.

Or Violet was simply afraid that she would not be able to tolerate the silence.

Violet hoped that she did not offend the Emperor as soon as she entered the Palace .

No response.

The Emperor stared intently at Violet.

'Have I offended him?'

After a slight pause , Violet resumed ,

"As the Empress and Your Majesty's legal wife , I believe I have the right to at least know her name."

"Olivia Wilde."

'Peace. Harmony. She doesn't take after her name , does she?', Violet thought silently in her head. ' And she's already destroying the almost non – existent peace in my marriage.'

"Empress! This is a warning. Do not play any dirty tricks to hurt the woman I favour. I will not tolerate any disrespect towards my woman! Just because you're from an aristocratic family....."

" Your Majesty , you do not have to worry. I will not interfere in such affairs. If I may be presumptuous , I have not made any comments nor shown any disrespect towards Lady Olivia because of her blood. As the Mother of the Empire , I have been taught not to be that shallow to discriminate people based on the life they've been born into.

We are all humans who deserve to be treated equally. However , the reason for my discontentment was because of Your Majesty's announcement that you had a mistress on the night of our wedding. I apologise if I have offended Your Majesty and Lady Olivia. " , Violet replied as she realised that she had overstepped her boundaries.

She hoped that her words would ease the fuming Emperor.

Though women in the Empire were more reserved and restrained , Violet had grown up in a family that treated women with respect and given her the freedom to speak her mind and make her choices.

Violet decided to be bold as she spoke her mind to the Emperor.

She knew that she would be even more disrespected if she did not hold her ground.

Violet knew that there was no room for fear in front of the Emperor.

Even if she was afraid and nervous, she had to fake it till she made it .

At the same time , she couldn't do anything that would taint the honour of her family.

She had to be dignified yet be more careful in the future.

"Any woman . No , anyone would feel insulted if their other half revealed that they had a lover outside of their marriage on the night of their wedding. Please understand that , Your Majesty. "

Silence. Complete silence.

Violet silently stared at the Emperor hoping that her words did not offend him.

As much as she wished to stand her ground, Violet knew that she could not entirely afford to offend the Emperor.

Marcelo was stunned.

Aristocrats usually looked down on people with commoner's blood in their veins.

He thought she would be the same.

A snobbish and pampered miss of a noble family.

But she said that she believed that nobles and commoners were equal.

It shook him deeply.

He had always been pressured because of his blood.

Even though no one dared to say it to his face , he knew that behind his back , he was despised and mocked for his blood.

The commoner's blood in him was the cause of his insecurity.

'This woman would make a great Empress.' Marcelo thought as he gathered his thoughts and stared at her for awhile.

'Was I too forward in my speech?' , Violet contemplated, ' I was too emotional just now. I forgot that I can only speak in such a way in front of my family.'

The Emperor and Violet just continued to stare at each other, trying to gauge what the other person was thinking.

"I understand" , the Emperor finally replied.

" I am afraid that I will be unable to fulfill my duties as a husband in the bedroom.

Olivia's feelings would get hurt. However , I will not humiliate you in public. "

'Wow. And your wife's feelings? Does it not matter? I already feel humiliated. This emperor is a jerk.'

Violet knew that she did not love the Emperor.

But she felt humiliated and embarrassed at the fact that her husband refused to fulfill his duties in the bedroom.

Her pride shattered because of the Emperor's words.

Violet knew she would be shamed if word got out that the Emperor had not spent the night with her.

The looks of scorn and gloating of the noble ladies who wished to be the Emperor's woman.

The insults and the disrespect.

Violet could already picture it.

' To His Majesty, it seems as if it does not matter if the Empress shamed at all.' , Violet thought in her head. as she looked at the Emperor who did not seem to have an ounce of sympathy for her.

"I will not expect anything from His Majesty.

I will perform my duties as the Empress and the Mother of the Empire of Iretonia.

As the only daughter of Duke Vanidestine , I will do my best to live up to the prestige of the family.

But ,Your Majesty , may I be bold to ask for a request? I hope Your Majesty will fulfill a wish for me and I promise to never interfere in the matters of His Majesty and Lady Olivia."

Marcelo was not a patient man.

But the woman in front of him intrigued him.

She was interesting.

Daring.

Asking for a fair end of the deal on her part. He usually does not give in to demands.

No one negotiates with him.

But he decided to listen to her.

Whether he chose to give in to her demands or not was another matter.

"What do you want?"

Just to let you know, I've only recently written on Author's Thought as it did not work before.

Have a great day ahead!
