10 Episode 9: Her Last Shot

Hugo rushed to the hospital as soon as he heard what happened to Agent Violet. He left his company immediately and ran towards his car, which was waiting in front of the building with a valet.

When he reached Massachusetts General Hospital, he ran towards the reception and asked for Agent Violet.

"Excuse me, is there a patient named Violet that was admitted here? She was shot," he huffed as he asked the woman in the reception area.

"Uhh, I'm sorry, Sir, but you can't go inside," said the woman at the reception.

"What? But I need to see her," he pleaded.

"I'm sorry, Sir, but you really can't, except you are a relative."

He brushed his hair with his hand in frustration. He slumped on the chair in the lobby and held his head in his hands. He lifts his head to the sound of footsteps running.

Special Agent Eric and Agent Patricia came dashing to the hallway from the hospital's cafeteria.

"Agent Eric!" he called Eric and rushed towards him. Eric stopped running and turns his body around in Hugo's direction.

"Hugo," Eric muttered. "Agent Patricia, tell Mr. Warren that Mr. Hugo Peige is here."

"Okay," Patricia dashed through the hospital's hallway towards an elevator.

"Where's Violet? How is she?" he asked.

"She's safe. She is now being transferred to the room we have reserved. Come this way."

They both walked inside the room where Violet was seen lying on the bed near the wide glass window. Mr. Warren and some agents are inside the room, talking about something when Special Agent Eric and Hugo walked in.

"Mr. Peige," Mr. Warren acknowledged him. "How have you been?"

"I'm good, Sir. I am here to check on Agent Violet." Hugo walked towards Mr. Warren and shook his hands.

"Oh, here she is. This girl is as sleek as a lizard and as wise as an owl. I wonder how she was shot. Criminals don't usually shot someone as they barge in, but this is uncommon." Mr. Warren stated as he looked at the agents. He was thinking of something when Agent Patricia speaks.

"Sir, are you thinking there's a mole in the agency?" she furrowed her brows.

"I am not thinking, I am implying that there's a mole in the agency. In my forty years in the bureau, I have encountered all kinds of moles." Mr. Warren sat on the couch, "And that's what I am assigning you to, Agent Eric."

Special Agent Eric salutes at Mr. Warren, "I will do everything that I can to catch the mole, Sir."

"Good." The director answered. Mr. Warren walked over to where Hugo is standing. "We're leaving. I hope your intentions with Violet is pure and real. She is like my daughter. I won't forgive you if you break her heart, Mr. Peige. Are we clear?"

"Yes, Sir," he salutes.

Mr. Warren taps his shoulder and walked out of the door.

Hugo, Agent Eric, and Agent Patricia were left inside the room.

"Uhh, is it okay to ask, are you two dating?" Hugo asked as he sat on the chair beside Violet's bed.

"No."

"Yes."

The two agents said at the same time. They looked at each other and somehow, Eric saw a hint of sadness on Patricia's face. They weren't really dating. In fact, he doesn't really like Agent Patricia because she's so clingy and not his type. He just goes with the flow because he can't say his true feelings with Agent Violet. 'Cause if he does, he thought that their friendship might be over, and he knows that Hugo likes her.

"Sorry." Agent Eric walked towards Violet to release the awkwardness in the air between him and Agent Patricia. "No, we're not dating." Eric pulls the blanket and tucked Violet's hands above it, caressing her hands where a lot of tubes were connected on a single syringe injected on her hand; a pulse oximeter is on her left hand.

"I-I'll just go to the cafeteria." Patricia excused herself. Agent Eric and Hugo looked at her retreating back and she closed the door.

The two men never leave Violet's side. They took turns in staying with her. They never told her parents and her brother about what happened. Agent Violet strictly said that to Agent Eric to not say something to her family when something happens to her. She doesn't want them to know and overreacts.

Five days have passed and Violet hasn't woken up. They are starting to worry about her but the doctor assures them that she was just in a medically induced coma. They just have to sedate her and it will have no complications.

It is Sunday. However, Hugo has to go to Vannes, France for a business meeting. Eric can't go to the hospital either because of an undercover operation. Agent Eric decided to ask for someone to look after Agent Violet. He was surprised that Agent Patricia volunteers to look after Agent Violet. He doesn't have a choice so he agreed even if it's against his will. He knows that Patricia doesn't like Violet but he can't ask for the other agents' help because they also have jobs to do. He will be there for Violet in the evening after his operation.

Hugo asked some of his bodyguards to help secure Violet in her room. So inside the room were Agent Patricia, two of the four bodyguards Hugo assigned for Violet, and the other two bodyguards were outside the VIP room.

When Agent Eric called Agent Patricia, she said that she is going to be a bit late because of an errand. She said that she might take an hour before going to the hospital so Eric agrees and ask for Hugo's bodyguards to check on her every minute.

Agent Patricia struts in the hospital's hallway towards Agent Violet's room. She saw the two bodyguards who slightly nodded their heads to her. She gave them a quick smile and went inside the room. She passed the slightly opened bathroom near the door and she can see her reflection in the mirror above the sink. She is wearing a nurses' outfit in blue, and a blonde wig. She also changed the color of her irises from brown to pure hazel and covered them with glasses. If you see her, she really looked like a nurse in MGH.

She pretended to check for Violet's vitals on the monitor. She adjusted the flow control clamp and look for the needleless access port and took out the syringe she was hiding inside her pocket. "This is for her daily dose of Diprivan for controlling her ICP," she said, and two bodyguards just nodded their heads. She smiled for herself. This is going to be an easy job.

"Wait." One of the two bodyguards stopped her from removing the cap of the syringe. "Let me take a look at the board." The man took the board she had placed near Violet's feet. He looked at the board and reads the direction of the doctor to administer Diprivan this morning. He nodded towards her hand. "Let me see the medicine. The bottle, please." He offered his hand for her to place the bottle of the drug that she is going to administer.

There are two bottles inside her pocket. Diprivan (Propofol) and Potassium Chloride. She rolled the bottle on top and grabbed the drug named Diprivan then showed it to the man. "Okay, good." The man goes back to his position and remained to look at her.

She hastily changed the bottle from the sedative to the much dangerous drug-- potassium chloride. 'Hang in there, Agent Violet. This is going to be your last shot.' Patricia smiled smugly. She is going to kill Agent Violet.

She inserted the needle into the needleless access port and when she was about to administer the drug, she unconsciously jumped backward because of Violet's hand clutching her arm. "So much for a sedative, right, Agent?" Violet's broken voice cuts through her like a shard of broken glass. She didn't expect that Agent Violet has woken up. Her cover was blown.

"Ma'am!" The two bodyguards walked closer to her and one of them alerted the two men outside to call for doctors and nurses.

Patricia tried to run but one of the men grabbed onto her arm and stopped her from bailing out. She tried doing her karate skills, however, she looks like she was just flailing her arms.

The bodyguards called for the police and Agent Patricia was held for interrogation by the FBI as the case was passed to them. Agent Eric immediately comes to the hospital right after the operation.

"I should have said no to Patricia. I knew that something like this will happen." He was blaming his self. Violet just looked at him as he blabbered on and on about having Patricia to look after her.

"She tried to kill me." Violet sat up carefully. She was lying there for five days but she felt tired. Her mind is hyper but her body doesn't agree with it. Eric helped her by placing pillows on top of each other on her back. "Damn, smart. She's trying to kill me by injecting potassium chloride."

"How do you know it's potassium chloride?" Eric asked.

"I saw the bottle. I saw the name of the bottle when she lifted it to get the drug by syringe. I was awake the entire morning. I'm trying to keep myself calm and store a lot of energy."

"Violet!" They both turned to Hugo who dashes through the door and hugged her. "I heard about what happened. Are you fine?" he worriedly asked her.

Violet chuckled, "I'm fine, Hugo." She tapped his back to let her go.

"Sorry," said Hugo as he backs away from her.

Eric sat on the couch, giving the two some privacy to talk and catch up. He texted Agent Vasquez about Patricia.

"Eric said that you have to go to France. You don't have to worry. I see you haven't landed, why go back?" she asked Hugo who sat beside her.

"Because I'm worried." He never bothered to ask how she knew that he hasn't landed in France because you know, she's Violet. She likes deducing people.

"You have a curious smile, you want to know how I know you haven't landed in France but you refrain yourself from asking." Violet shifted and sighs, "Your hair; it's slightly dry and slightly wet. You're wearing a business suit. You are wearing a watch and you haven't adjusted the time. It's twelve in the afternoon. I can still strongly smell your perfume. I'm guessing you flew at eight in the morning. You are only two hours away from France. Why a quick detour? I'm unharmed."

Hugo smiled at her and held her hand. "Simply because I care. And I love you, Violet. I will do everything for you."

Eric and Violet were surprised by Hugo's sudden outburst. Violet looked shocked and her lips were slightly parted. She doesn't expect him to be that fast. Hugo slowly inches his face closer to her and let their lips touched for a moment before backing away. He has forgotten about Eric in the room. All he knows is that it was only him and Violet, and he lets his feelings flow by kissing her softly right there and then.

Eric just looked at them awkwardly and tried to compose himself. He tried to read Violet's face but failed when she just looked straight at Hugo's face. He can't read her facial expression neither Hugo. Violet just looked shocked. She was taken aback.

"Love is always been a mystery, Mr. Peige," Violet speaks and shifted to where she was sitting. "You should know that we are not the only two people in this room. I have always known about your feelings, Hugo. However, I have just known about Agent Montenaro's this morning and you gave me the final proof that he has feelings for me." Violet glances at Eric. "It's been an awkward moment, boys. Let me rest and do not wake me up until this evening for dinner," she clicked her tongue and winks cooly at the two guys. "Ah, my back hurts a lot," she whined as she goes back to her bed, oblivious to the two guys who have both shocked expressions while looking at her.
