2 Episode 1: A High-Functioning Sociopath With No Friends

Special Agent Eric stands near her and Mr. Ronaldo Peige. SA Violet, SA Eric, and the two bodyguards of Mr. Peige circled the businessman, protecting him. SA Violet let the bullets rain on the terrorists’ side and the latter run from the different directions of the café.

She smirked and nods to Agent Eric behind her, signaling the guy to cover for her to get Mr. Peige away from the scene.

SA Eric does what she said and let his FN-P90 rain on the enemy’s side. Special Agent Eric is one of the FBI’s best agents. He was accepted to join the FBI at such a young age, just like Agent Violet.

The two were always teamed up whenever there’s a special mission with the SWAT team, in need of the best and the most special agents of the FBI. They were sometimes called “The Twin” in the office because they were always together. With Violet’s brilliant and intelligent mind, and Eric’s tactical mind and skills, the two can do any mission given to them.

The reinforcement soldiers joined the scene, giving more time for Violet and Mr. Peige to escape.

“Thank you.” Mr. Peige told her as he huffed and sat at the back of the ambulance near the door. A red blanket was draped on his shoulder... for the shock.

“Would you like one, Ma’am?” asked the nurse, handing her a blanket for shock too.

She waved her hand, “No, but thanks.” She smiled at the nurse. She looked at Mr. Peige as the nurse offered him an oxygen inhalator. “Are you alright, Sir?” she asked him.

Mr. Peige nodded and closed his eyes. He is trying to calm his self down.

“Dad!” Mr. Peige’s eyes immediately opened in sync with Violet turning to see who called.

A guy ran towards them as he shouted his dad’s name. Violet observed him as he approached them. The guy has the same brown hair and a blue pair of eyes. She’s certain that he’s a close family member, not a son-in-law because of the facial similarities. He’s the son.

As the guy approaches them, she noticed the faint smell of a cigarette; not a chain smoker. He went straight to the ambulance where his father was lying. Violet continued her quick observation; nipped and small nails probably from biting, small but not that evident bags under the eyes, short and rough beard, dry and chapped pinkish lips, all clear signs of stress and low self-esteem. But why is he stressed?

“Dad, stop dealing with those kinds of men. I told you I’d do it. You don’t have to do it personally. You’re worrying Mom.” the guy talked, distressed.

Violet’s eyebrow raised as she was unintentionally eavesdropping on the father and son conversation. She was about to say something when she heard Eric calls for her. She turned around only to find her partner jogging towards her.

“You okay?” she asked him. Eric tossed his firearm at one of the SWAT team who was passing by.

Eric exhaled and said, “Yeah. Fucking Damon fled.”

Violet rolled her eyes. Another truckload of paper works is going to come her way with such an unsuccessful mission. The mission is simple. Catch Damon Ivanov; one of the FBI’s most wanted fugitive.

"Uhm, excuse me, Miss?" the younger Peige broke their conversation. He was smiling and extending his hand for her to shake.

Violet shook the younger Peige's hand. "Agent Violet." she introduced herself.

"Hugo Peige. Thank you for saving my father."

Curved last bone at the middle finger towards the ring finger: a pianist. No ring on any of his ring finger: unmarried. His pupils dilate, he's interested. Violet bit the inside of her cheek. "That's a part of our job. You don't have to thank us," she said coldly.

She turned her back on Eric who was looking at Hugo Peige. "That means you're welcome," Eric said as he made sure that Hugo won't get intimidated by his partner. Out of the two of them, Violet is colder.

"O-Oh, yeah. Yeah, thanks again." Hugo Peige glanced at her again before Violet started to walk away. Eric stumbled as he follows her after apologizing to Mr. Ronaldo Peige's son, Hugo.

"Hey," he jogged towards her. "Congratulations, you just made a fan back there." he joked.

Violet looked at him and rolled her eyes, "I don't have time for your lame jokes, Montenaro."

Eric laughed and draped his arms around her shoulder, members of the SWAT team salutes as they walk past them.

Hugo was left, standing there as he looked at the two agents who saved his father.

FBI Headquarters

Washington, D.C., United States

"Good morning, agents." Ramona, the sweetest older lady at the front desk greets Violet and Eric as they walked inside the headquarters. They both smiled and greeted her.

The two sat down on their desks at the same time and get back to work. An intern immediately gave Violet and Eric their coffees.

"You don't have to do this, you know." Eric said at the intern. The intern smiled sweetly.

"Can I please have some more milk?" Violet called for the intern and the lady smiled sarcastically, feeling annoyed by Violet. She handed Violet two more packets of powdered milk then walk away, passing by Eric and giving him a wink.

Eric chuckled as he looked at a confused Violet. "She likes you so much." He teased her.

"Can't say the same." Violet mumbled.

Violet was sorting some paper works when she was called by the director. She stood up from her table and went inside her boss' office.

Eric looked up from his desk and wonders why Violet has been called by the director.

"Yes, sir? You called for me?" she queried.

"Some VIP wants to talk to you." the Director, Mr. John Warren, stated. "He will be here in a minute," he added.

She raised a brow, feeling intrigued about who wants to talk to her. Mr. Warren asked her to sit down on the couch. She chose to sit on the single-seater one.

Few minutes had passed and she was still looking at her brother's profile on Instagram, commenting on one or two of his posts about family gatherings, because she missed them so much. Two men in black tux went inside the office, followed by two more men, one who's much older, in gray, and the younger one, in a charcoal suit.

She recognized them easily. The two men who went first was Mr. Ronaldo Peige's bodyguards. One married, and the one with gray eyes, single. Then followed by Mr. Ronaldo Peige himself, and his son, Hugo. Hugo looked more handsome when he shaved his face. He looked more elated than he was last night. The tuxedo fit him so well, he looked like a gift from God.

Hugo stared at her and saw her bit her lip. He doesn't know if it's lust or attraction, but one thing is for sure. He was turned on once again by her. He breathes deeply and turns his attention to greet Mr. Warren.

"Miss Violet. How are you?" Mr. Ronaldo Peige greeted.

"Good. Are you completely well? I mean, your health?" she asked the older Peige.

"Well, my health is fine. And most important of all, I'm good and alive. Thanks to you." the older Peige thanked her.

"You've been thanking me since last night. It was me and my partner, Eric Montenaro. It's our job to keep you safe." she stressed while locking eyes with Hugo. Hugo has been eyeing her since the first time he went inside Mr. Warren's office.

Mr. Peige gave a hearty laugh. "My bad. Where's this Mr. Montenaro so I can thank him also?"

"He's in the office, Sir. Would you like me to call for him?" Mr. Warren asked, ready to call Eric on the intercom.

"Ah, no, we can do that later. I am here to ask the Federal Bureau to help us catch El Gato. Rodrigo de Leon is his full name. He took billions from our company and no one can help us to find him besides you."

"He's a pain in the ass, really. We've been tracking him down since last year, and when we finally have his location, he will escape and we will be back to zero." Hugo interjected.

Mr. Warren cleared his throat. As Violet looked at him, it looked like he was thinking something deeply. "I wonder why this case wasn't passed unto us?" the director asked Mr. Peige.

"It is because we tried to take this matter on our own hands. Excuse us for the word but we don't really trust the police considering their lack of skills and of course, they were always late when it comes to an operation." Hugo answered.

"Then why am I here for?" Violet pondered.

"We would like you to take part in this mission." the older Peige answered.

She stood up and looked at the men in front of her.

She can see that Hugo looks at her longer with greater intensity as if he was trying to talk to her telepathically with just his gaze.

He was making eye contact regularly, smiling at her, and she kind of felt confused by how many times he had looked at her. He's into her as much as she is into him.

She cringed. Violet doesn't like the attention he was giving her. She doesn't like men that much. She doesn't want to be in a relationship with anyone at this moment. She just wants to make herself busy with work.

Maybe that's why she doesn't have any friends.

She's socially inept. She's a high-functioning sociopath with no friends. She's married to her work and that's what's keeping her happy, satisfied, and contented.

She looked at the two again. "I'm in."
