1 A New Environment

It was 2294

It's quiet.

Parts of guns were spread everywhere and one man was assembling these weapons. This man was majoring in math and science in the technology field, though he wanted to be part of the new humanitarian efforts in these trying times. As he was trying to make a new system for civilians to be safer, he instead made a doomsday device that could wipe a country off the map. Things didn't work out the way he had planned and got forced into inventing weapons for the JSDF. One day, he was sent out to the battlefield as a weapons officer.

It wasn't his choice to be in the fight of war at all... He just wanted to live a peaceful life as a humanitarian technician, but instead, he was in this fight. Bullets flew over his head and he heard something roll under him.

"GRENADE!"

He cried out and jumped away from it.

Then it happened, searing pain in his left leg. He looked down and was horrified at the sight of it. His left leg, completely gone.

"AGH!"

He yelled out in pain.

A soldier walked up to him with a gun, pointed it at his head, and shook his head.

"Too bad you got dragged into this mess... son"

Then fired the round...

***

Drifting...

It was pitch black... and it felt like... a peaceful ending for him. The comfort of nothingness and being able to fear nothing while he was here.

Then a light appeared... A bright one at that. He looked at the light and closed his eyes as he thought he's about to go to heaven or some sanctuary. That was not the case...

***

He opened his eyes and saw a plate of food in front of him.

"Go on, eat up"

He looked to where the voice came from. Two males and two females sat at the table. Presumably family. He looked down at the food and poked the meat.

"Don't poke the meat Akashi!"

He looked up and saw a woman, probably the mother. He started eating his food. With each bite, his previous memories started to fade away and new memories took their place. He looked down at the empty plate. All of his old memories were gone, and new ones took their place. To his knowledge, he is a 15-year-old boy with a noble title. The heritage would be going to his eldest brother, Luke, who was 19 years of age.

As he looked around the house, he came to understand the world with the new memories he gained. There is magic in this world, as well as other races. There are Beast-men, demi-humans, Humans, and Elves. There is also a Vampire race, but most of the Vampire race got eradicated and only a few remain. One of which is in the top-ranking guilds comprised of only five S-rankers. Some vampires lack the means to reproduce and that is why they are so rare in this world.

Some monsters roam outside the kingdom, and they appeared not too long ago. A place in the royal palace called the "Alliance" was formed, but most people just call them adventurers. To apply, people usually have to be better than the average human, either in strength, intelligence, speed, etc. People with more intelligence than the average person can have an aptitude for magic. Magic is a requirement to join if the person does not meet the category or inhuman physical abilities. There are also guilds that fight together to earn a large sum of money from defeating higher-ranked monsters. Though, if misjudged, these monsters can get deadly.

There is a ranking system in place for each reaper member. E-rank to S-rank. These ranks are also a clearance level to fight certain monsters. The stronger the monster, the higher rank is required. Usually, monsters are fought in teams of three of the same rank or higher. For example, if there is a B-ranked monster, there would have to be a balance of three B rankers to take that monster down.

"Damn I hope I get something other than E rank...", he thought

As a noble, he must uphold his house's principles and traditions. Even if it's right, or wrong. Nobility is something that is earned, not given through bloodline. If Akashi's brother wanted to earn the title, he would have to do something that shows to the crown, that he is worthy to take it. At the moment, the family holds a baron level of nobility. Adventurers who are A-rank or above will have the option to be given the titles of nobility on what achievements they got but will have to give up their career as a reaper.

He looked over and saw his sister, Amelia, cleaning the table up, she's fifteen at the time, and she was looking at Akashi as if she was anxious about something. Some of the recent memories of this body haven't come to light yet as he is still trying to grasp his reality and environment. She is quite something. When she was the age of thirteen, she was proposed by several other noble families, but she rejected them all. The main question is, why?

"Is there something the matter Amelia?"

She looked up startled and shook her head nervously.

"N-no..."

She had walked away and he had looked at her blankly as she walked away.

His memories of the old world were gone, but his old personality and morals were still there... well some of it, and he showed concern for the girl. He later dismissed it as the night grew and the light faded from the outside. Bathing was simple as there was a barrel of water and a bucket to rinse off with.

"I should join the alliance next year...", he thought.

Though he hadn't tested if he had inhuman abilities, his parents would most likely disagree with his decisions and disown him if they found out his ambitions.

He went to his room and laid down.

As he laid there, more and more information came to him. Today was his fifteenth birth date apparently and then he sat up immediately as he got the last piece of memory. It was something his father told him this morning.

***

"It is our tradition for a new adult in the house to experience sexual intercourse with the woman who is the closest age to the new adult."

***

He panicked and looked around for a place to hide.

"Fuck! I need to get out of here!", he thought.

Too late...

The door handle turned and he ducked under the covers of his blankets.

His sister, Amelia, walked in. She was in a kind of robe-like lingerie. She began her advance towards Akashi and opened the covers where he laid.

"I-it's time for us to proceed with the ceremony of adulthood..."

As she moved in closer, Akashi moved away from her as his mind blanked. He couldn't think of any way to get out of this! She looked at him in question and put her leg on the bed.

"W-whats wrong Akashi?... D-didn't you want this? O-or... am I not appealing enough?..."

Akashi then snapped back to reality and sighed.

"Amelia... tell me, do you want this?"

She was taken aback by this question and sat down.

"No... Not exactly. It's not like I have a say in the matter though... My virtue has already been taken from your brother, so it doesn't seem fair if I didn't let you have me for the night too..."

Akashi shook his head in disgust.

"Look... Amelia. I'm not like that. Sure, you seem attractive and all, but doing that to you would just go against my morals… I'm quite sorry."

As soon he said that he noticed that she was covering her mouth. He looked up to see her tearing up and then she hugged him in an instant. Tears were falling and he just let her stay like that for the moment. It was the first thing he did that went against traditions...

***

The next day, disaster struck. His parents found out that they did not perform the tradition and somebody was to blame. Akashi took the fall for it and was disowned and removed from their line of nobility and removed from the house.

"It's better this way..."

He headed off to the capital as his sister saw him off.

"Remember Amelia, don't let them control you, and find that one man that suits you. You will find happiness wherever you go with him, I just know it."

That was the last memory he had with his sister.

"That's not Akashi..."
