30 The Human Emperor

"True Essence? Of the land of Devils? What is it?" High Devil Bai murmured to himself as he paced around the cave.

After the Overseer retreated in defeat, High Devil Bai has been trying to understand the true essence of this land. While pacing back and forth, the temperature around varies as he walked into the colder region and exited out of it in the next moment.

"It's cold and hot, hmm..." High Devil Bai suddenly stopped as he stood in between the two regions, his body shivering from the large difference in temperature.

Suddenly, High Devil Bai thought of something as he immediately sat down and allow the cold and hot air to penetrate through his skin. Eventually, the two opposing forces clashed within his body. The clash has damaged his internal organs as High Devil Bai coughed out a mouthful of warm blood.

'No, I have to let them harmonize.' High Devil Bai came to a conclusion as he attempted to imbue his Qi into the two forces, so as to control them.

Gradually, the two forces mixed as they intertwined each other in a spiral shape. When the two forces entered his DanTian, the abundance of Qi in there heavily suppressed the two forces while forcing them to completely harmonize each other.

Once his condition stabilize, High Devil Bai stopped taking in the hot and cold air and started to focus on mixing the two forces in his DanTian.

'Looks like this will take awhile.' High Devil Bai closed his eyes and entered a cultivation state.

"What happened to the other half of the things I asked for?" The Human Emperor tapped his fingers on the golden throne as he asked.

Enduring the pressure emitted from the Human Emperor, the Heavenly Diviner explained, "Someone appeared and wiped out the entire army at the village, following that, Elite War General Yi was annihilated."

"To think someone even dare to go up against me..." The Human Emperor tapped his glabella as if he was considering a bothersome problem.

The Human Emperor gradually stood up and with a majestic wave of his sleeve, he gave the orders, "Call back all the troops into the palace and adopt a defensive formation. The children shall follow me."

The Heavenly Diviner bowed his head as the Human Emperor stood up and left.

However, before the Human Emperor disappeared from sight, he turned and spoke, "Heavenly Diviner, looks like your prediction is right after all."

With that, he went to inside the imperial cultivation chamber with around 20 plus children following him.

Once the children entered the chamber, a rotting stench hit them. Upon seeing several dead bodies and pools of blood in the middle of the chamber, the children immediately panicked as they scrambled to escape.

However, the entrance was sealed shut by a sliding stone door, trapping them with the Human Emperor.

Noticing the commotion, the Human Emperor send a wave of Qi at the group of children. Needless to say, the group of children erupted into puddles of blood as the Qi from a Spirit Ascension stage cultivator penetrated them.

The Human Emperor then walked to the center of the chamber and drew out a rune formation with the children's blood.

He then raised both of his hands as he chanted, "The invincible and mighty Overseer! Bestow upon me your powers! I, the Human Emperor, shall gift you the virgins' blood!"

With his arms raised, the Human Emperor waited for the bestowing of powers to be granted. However, after waiting for a minute, nothing happened.

"HAHAHA! How dare you not fulfill your end of the deal? Overseer!" The Human Emperor bellowed with hatred when he realized that he had been cheated. The roar from the Human Emperor reverberated in the chamber, causing several stones to fall.

"You refuse to grant me your powers? Then I shall pray to an even higher power! After that, I will kill you," The Human Emperor murmured to himself as he changed the rune formation.

Once the new rune formation was done, the atmosphere around became chilly and sinister. The rune contained several circles with an ancient string of words at the outermost circle. In the middle of it all was an red bloody eye.

With a gulp, the Human Emperor steeled his nerves as he chanted, "The evil..."

The words were stuck in his throat as the Human Emperor attempted to address the higher being.

Calming himself down once again, the Human Emperor pleaded, "The Evil itself. Do hear this lowly human out. I, the Human Emperor from the mortal realm, request a portion of your powers. In return, I will offer you the virgins' blood!"

Once the sentence ended, the chamber started to vibrate and a colossal amount of pressure descended onto the rune, forcing the Human Emperor to kneel on the floor.

In the next instant, the room was engulfed in darkness and an ancient voice sounded out, "Is it you who called for me?"

The Human Emperor eyes constricted when he heard the voice. Despite his instincts telling him to destroy the rune formation, he still carried on with it, "Yes, it is me."

"You yearn for my strength, do you not?"

"Yes, I do."

"But, this is not enough for me to lend you my strength. What else can you offer?" The ancient voice hissed.

"I-I-I will give you my soul! My humanity!" The Human Emperor involuntarily blurted out. Immediately after the words came out, the Human Emperor quickly covered his mouth as he drowned in horror at what he had just said.

The ancient voice chuckled before disappearing along with the dark mist.

When the darkness retreated, the rune formation cracked and at the same time, the Human Emperor felt a searing pain spreading throughout his body.

Clenching his fist, the Human Emperor screamed in agony a foreign power entered his body. Gradually, the surrounding blood began to disappear and the people in the cage also began to disappear, one by one.

With his army of ferocious beasts, Shadow stared at the Imperial Capital and frowned. In the distance, he could see a sinister dark mist shooting down from the sky.

Immediately, all the ferocious beasts growled nervously as their furs stood on its ends. Shadow could feel that if he was to touch the mist now, he would obliterated into nothingness.

After a while of observing the black mist, Shadow noticed that the mist had retreated and the sinister feeling disappeared. With a sense of foreboding, Shadow advanced towards the Imperial Capital.
