89 [Chapter 89] Ambush Here, Ambush There, Why Are They Everywhere?

"Target in sight, but an....anomaly is with him, do we engage?" A deep voice says as he looks through the brush at Kurayami and a massive wolf running around. A voice responds from the glowing stone he is holding, it's a man's voice that sounds as if it could even get a dragon to kneel.

"You five should be more than enough to take him down, we still have to fulfill this contract." The guy looks around at the group he commands. '2 D rank mages, and 2 C rank mages, plus me being a B rank mage should be more than enough power to take him out.'

To rank up as a mage is a massive achievement in this world, the difference between D rank and C rank is like the difference between a vent and a campfire. C rank to B rank is like comparing a campfire to a forest fire. B and A is a forest fire being compared to a volcano erupting consistently. And A and S is like comparing the volcano to the sun, almost incomparable. But D rank is the lowest one can be.

'From what I saw, this kid is most likely a D rank already from what I am told. He was able to get the duo to underestimate him which then allowed him to barely win. That's my guess, the viper twins never failed a mission before, yet the first one they did, they died on.' The man thinks as he stares at the purple haired kid who is watching the massive wolf run around him.

'Him being a D rank is impressive, but not impossible. The reason we have teens at D rank is because they can't grow no more, being limited to their current state. Poor souls, but survival of the fittest.'

He thinks as he turns off the stone and pockets it. He waves the group together, "You four will split into groups of 2, each with 1 D and 1 C rank, your 2 groups are going to go out and pincer him while I come up through the middle and attack, while he is distracted, 1 team will come behind him to support me as the other group will take care of the wolf. The 4 nod and immediately splitting up and getting ready.

'My ears feel warm, is someone talking about me behind my back?' I think as I watch Winter running around in the snow. Suddenly, I hear snow crunching and immediately am on guard. Winter senses my change of attitude and stops running around, standing still and perks her ears up to listen.

I quickly grab my scythe from my gear box which I summoned and immediately put the box back in the ring. I immediately hit a button and the scythe unfolds itself with the clanking of metal. Now stands a 7ft scythe and Winter's eyes go wide as she lays her eyes on it. 'I want that type of scythe! I may of not been using scythe for a while but I know a good weapon when I see one.' Suddenly, she sees me step forward while cleaving down with my scythe at what looks like air.

Suddenly, I hear a grunt as my scythe hits something along with a clang and suddenly, where was once empty space, a thin man in a ninja suit appears from where I hit, but his suit is armored with a form of plating, reflecting my hit.

I see his eyes are slightly wide as he pulls out a katana like blade from his side while taking a stance. 'I just can't escape trouble for a week, can't I?' I think as I stare at the man, but I still hear snow crunching, hinting at more people. I continue to stare at him as I warn Winter, "There are more enemies, be on guard and see what you form can do!" I yell as I suddenly charge at the man full speed, his eyes go wide as I suddenly become a blur. I appear above him and spin downward, aiming to end him in this hit.

The guy barely looks up in time and says in the magic language very quickly, at a speed I wouldn't even perceive human anymore, "Water and Ice, heed my call and create a barrier following my hand." And he suddenly waves his hands as a barrier of water appears above him and freezes into ice. I strike it and it shatters almost immediately, but he isn't there anymore.

I suddenly hear a yelp as I see Winter get ambushed by two more people, but I'm lucky I looked back as I suddenly see two pieces of metal appear from nowhere flying at me. I use absolute darkness to create a barrier using my shadow, the metal sinks into the shadow by about an inch before stopping, revealing that they were daggers covered in some form of liquid.

I suddenly feel a searing pain in my back as something enters my skin, but suddenly, I feel something exit my front, I look down just to see a sword sticking through my abdomen. My blood drips down and stains the once pure white snow with fresh red blood.

I look behind me just to see the armored ninja, his eyes gleaming underneath his suits darkness. Suddenly, a noise is heard, first it's silent, but then it becomes louder until a purple ring I was wearing turns into a blob of slime and jumps at the man with a very loud "Meow!"

The man doesn't have enough time to react because of the short distance and suddenly has a purple slime attach to his face. I hear the man scream as I watch his head suddenly explode from within the slime before the pieces of his head disappear, and his body falls lifeless to the ground as blood pours from his neck, creating a river of red. I look over to see the slime is now clean from what just happened, although he looks slightly larger than before.

I stare at Slime Winter with awe and disbelief in my eyes. 'And I had you on my head!'
