4 [Chapter 4] Magic Affinities

"I'm ready for the body examination." And Mr. Johnson enters and closes the curtain behind him. The second he lays eyes on my chest and stomach, his eyes grow wide at the sight of them.

"Your body is definitely different than when we had to check you for injuries when you came in here. Do you know how this happened?" He says, his voice filled with curiosity and a hint of shock. I just shrug my shoulders like, your guess is as good as mine, because I have no excuse for this.

"Well...I am gonna do a thorough search to see if I can find out if this is magical or not."

He says, sounding determined.

'Crap, if he can discover that it was something I did, then I will be screwed. I just gotta hope that my abilities are undetectable. Or else I will have a lot of explaining to do.'

He puts his hands together and starts speaking that language he spoke last time, the words sound sharp yet smoothly connect together. When he is done, a yellow light comes from his hands again, but this time it is in a wisp form. It floats around me before entering my chest. All of a sudden, my body glows, starting the entry point of the wisp and going outward, like a ripple in water. The light highlights my organs and my veins, making it look like my body is see through.

"Nothing looks wrong with the internal organs." He says as he spreads his arms out. As he does, the light slowly leaves my organs and I can then see that it is starting to show my muscles. Soon, my entire body is glowing and you can see every muscle in the body.

"Nothing seems to be wrong with the muscle tissue..." he says as he puts his arms down. The wisp leaves my body and dissipates and I look normal again.

"What were you looking for?" I ask with curiosity and worry.

"I was looking for black spots or areas. Black areas mean that magic was used, but there were none..." I inwardly sigh in relief, knowing that I dodged a bullet seeing how my shadow mana leaves no traces of magic energy. Which makes me wonder, what would my darkness mana be called because that means it isn't magic. I definitely need to do more research.

While I was lost in my thoughts, Mr. Johnson said, "I can't find anything to explain your sudden growth in muscle mass, I will keep looking for an explanation but can't make any promises." I snap back to reality and say, "Ok. By the way, what type of magic is that your using?"

"It's light magic, I was born with the affinities of light and fire magic but light is what I am the best at." He said, his voice wavering in its professionalism a bit.

"Where did you learn to use magic? I want to learn how to cast magic too!" I said with enthusiasm while I put on my clothes.

"Well, it depends on what affinities you were born with, which we can find out with these." He says as he walks over and opens a drawer and there are seven stones and a wood container in it. He pulls out the container and sets it on the counter beside it. He then says, "Each stone will react differently with your mana if you have an affinity for an element." He grabs a yellow one, "You must channel mana into it like this and if you have the affinity for the element..." he says as the yellow stone starts to glow and all of a sudden, shoots out a beam of light!

"Woah! That's awesome!" I say, amazed by the light coming out of the stone.

He stops channeling mana into it and the stone slowly stops glowing until it looked normal again.

"But if you don't have an affinity for it..." He grabs an orange one and channels mana into it but nothing happens. "Then the stone won't show any reaction at all." He says as he puts the stone back.

"Would you like to try?" He asks, his face full of happiness and with a bright smile on it.

I nod quickly and grab a yellow stone.

'So from what I'm seeing, each stone as an element, yellow is light, Orange is earth, red is fire, blue is water, green is wind, and black is darkness, but what is the grey one for?'

I focus on it and....nothing. I look at Mr. Johnson and ask, "How do you channel mana?" He looks surprised but then laughs.

"I'm sorry, I got ahead of myself and forgot to tell you some of the basics. So basically, you hold the stone and imagine there is a container inside you that holds your mana. And imagine paths throughout your body connected to the container, push your mana from the container to your hands. This wood bin here is to catch any element that flows from the crystal such as sand or water."

I imagine an orb in my chest, a big black orb and I then imagine my mana as black as the abyss flowing from it like water. I push the black mana to go through the crystal and then...nothing happens. We go through this process again and again till there are two stones left, a pitch black one and a cloud grey one.

I grab the pitch black one, feeling a strong connection to this one. Mr. Johnson has a frown on his face, probably from the past stone reactions and begins explaining this stone. "This stone is one that reacts if you have an affinity for the darkness element, although the darkness element is the second rarest to have an affinity for, it is one of the weakest and usually requires the help from a second affinity."

'I'll show you weakest!' I thought as I channeled my black mana into the stone. At first, nothing happened, but then, *CRACK!* The stone spiderwebbed cracks all over and darkness energy poured out of it like a river after a dam broke.

I drop the stone from shock of what was happening and it stopped. Mr. Johnson looks at me, then at the stone laying on the ground, then back at me. I ask, a little nervous, "Is that type of reaction natural?"

He just looks at me and shakes his head, to bewildered to speak.
