32 My amazing Ability

Adam stared at the piles of bodies with his mouth open. The worms weren't killed with clean sword cuts. Instead, they were savagely massacred. Some of them were torn to pieces, while others had their guts taken out from inside their bodies making them bleed till death.

But all of that wasn't the reason he felt shocked. He hasn't even felt the slightest sense of pity toward them because he knew the worms would have eaten him alive if he was weaker. It was the fact that he didn't remember half of the fight that scared him a lot.

"It looks like I lost control of my body in the middle of the fight and went on a rampage. But how can I even be this ferocious? Was It my subconscious mind, or have I been possessed?" As soon as he thought about that. He started inspecting his surrounding with enhanced vision skeptically. The Idea of being controlled by someone or something was frightening.

He was more terrified when he remembered his black claw-like hand that was proof of the changes that occurred to his body when he lost consciousness. He was sure that he wasn't hallucinating. But when he examined the field several times, he couldn't find anything except the dead bodies.

"This is not the first time. I still remember that I lost control over my body when I was in the goblins' cave too. At that time Yassmine told me it was probably a trauma, caused by the sight of blood and dead bodies that scattered everywhere. But I am sure now that isn't the case because I don't feel any pity nor disgust toward them. In fact, I still remember enjoying killing them and eating their shadows." Adam tried to figure out what happened to him to relieve the fear and anxiousness that were haunting his mind.

"What the hell am I even saying? That wasn't me. I do kill beasts but I can't enjoy that. This is terrible."

"What are the things that are in common between the two experiences?"

"In both of them, I lost control, and some temporary changes occurred to my body. Besides that, in both times, there was a massacre...That must be it, a massacre!!"

"Wait, could that be related to my ability to absorb shadows. After all, it is the only thing that is affected by dead beasts. More dead bodies mean more shadows and more energy. But still, why would that affect my consciousness and body?" Adam tried to understand what was happening to him, but the more he figured out, the more he became puzzled.

Suddenly, Adam remembered that he has to quickly go to the white lotus family and find a healer that can reattach his left arm. It's true that after absorbing a lot of energy his body was fully healed. But he wasn't able to regrow his limb. So he activated enhanced vision again and started searching for his fallen arm. Finally, he found it next to the body of the big black worm.

Adam leaned down and picked his arm carefully then started to wipe the dust and the blood. But he quickly stopped then jumped backward as he sensed the body of the black worm twitch. When he looked at it carefully, he realized that even though it was severely injured and white smoke was coming out from all over its body it was still alive.

"It looks like even three bombs weren't enough to kill it. Indeed, it is a C-ranker. One bomb is enough to tear a D-rank beast to shreds. Yet, it survived three of them that detonated right inside its mouth at once."

The beast that seamed very weak slightly lifted his head, then it shot green acid toward Adam desperately. The latter dodged it easily then he tried to counterattack but the worm quickly dug a hole in the ground and entered inside.

"This is my chance," Adam activated rocket burst to launch himself very high then ignited his enchanted sword waiting for the worm to show up.

The beast came out of the ground exactly in the spot where Adam was standing to sneak attack him. But, it found nothing there. Suddenly, Its head was pierced from above making it fall dead instantly.

"When the worm enters the ground it loses track of my movements. And I, on the other hand, know where it is going to appear."

Soon a massive shadow had formed beneath the big worm, just to be swallowed by Adam instantly. The later felt a huge amount of energy entering his body at once bringing with it lots of power and pleasure. The energy that Adam had just absorbed was enormous, more than what he got when he killed all those D-rank worms. "Ah! It feels amazing."

But what Adam saw next was more exciting. Black fibers grew from his left shoulder and left arm with a pace visible to the naked eye, then they joined each other. Adam kept inspecting his left arm with high expectations.

After ten minutes his left arm was fully attached to his body as if it was never cut before. "That is amazing. It looks like I can heal myself whenever enough shadows are absorbed. That's why I couldn't reattach my arm when I only absorbed the shadows of the D-rank beast." Adam was excited about restoring his arm and also about the great healing effect that his ability provided him.

He finally, decided to head back home as he had accumulated a huge amount of unrefined energy that he will use to enchant weapons. It was still dark when he arrived home, so his mom was still sleeping. First, he entered the toilet and looked at the mirror to see if there were any changes in his appearance. But he looked the same as before except his bloody torn clothes and stinky smell. So he took a shower and wore a new set of clothes.

Then he headed toward the Hunter guild market to buy the weapons that he will enchant later.
