Someone is watching us

"Close your eyes" he whispered from behind. His warm breath tickling her ears.

"Why?" she asked already tensed.

"Just trust me and do it"

"Alright," she inhaled heavily and shut her eyes.

"Hope they are close?" She felt his hand over her face. Her stomach turned in on itself.

"Yes," a warm smile cut across her lips.

"Good. Let's go" he took her hand. Omo was excited, unsure of what to expect. She just met him and he is already taking her to surprises. This better be worth losing her sight over.

After a slow and blinding walk of about three minutes, they came to a stop. In the quiet and cold night, she heard his footsteps pacing around, making last-minute corrections and adjustments. The urge to sneck a peep crawled up on her mind. On second thought, she decided against it. Let's just wait for the surprise, she concluded.

"Alright," he was back behind her with hands on her waist. She caught a whiff of his tempting perfume. "You can open your eyes" he whispered.

Easily, she opened her eyes to blackness with poor illumination from the moon. On the soft grasses lay a beautiful blanket with a plastic basket filled with cupcakes, a bottle of red wine and two empty glasses.

It was beautiful and thoughtful but not amazing. About to turn back and pretend to be astonished. She heard a click sound and immediately, the whole place lit up. Twinkling lights hung around trees that stood guard around the garden. On the floor, little winking lights were arranged in a manner that said "I love you". Goosebumps engrossed her dark skin. The butterflies returned to her stomach. A blush stained her cheeks.

"Aaaawwwnnn… this is really beautiful" her hands covered her mouth, she ran over to the blanket and sat.

"I am glad you like it" he made his way to her smiling brightly.

"So, you did all this for me?"

"Yes baby" he took out the bottle of red wine and place it on the grass. "Just to show you how much I love you"

"It is really beautiful," she said staring up at the sky, pretending she didn't hear the last thing he said.

He laughed and shrugged as he handed her a cupcake and rubber spoon.

"So, I don't get anything back, not even I miss you?"

"No… not until I taste this cake. The cake will help me decide."

His shoulders shook as he laughs. She couldn't help but join him. Despite being nervous, she felt at ease with him, not pretending to be anyone or perfect. This is a person she wants to know more. A guy she could love till the stars fade away.

Out of the blue, 'Never seen anything quite like you' by The Script filled the air. Playing softly from invisible speakers.

"Awww… that's my favorite song" she said excitedly.

He stood up, smoothened his white spotless suit, held out his hand to her. Curiously, she took it. Again feeling a zap of electricity from his touch.

"You are not going to ask me to dance right?"

His tiny lips curved into a sexy smile. "I just did"

She shook her head in refusal. Her nervousness returned. "I can't dance. Unless you want me to just melt into the ground"

"Come on... anyone can dance"

"Not me. My body is rigid. They don't move"

"It is not just about moving bodies, my dear. It is our eyes lost in each other, my hands on your waist, yours on my shoulders, our souls interweaving to become one".

She chuckled, "I don't understand any of that shit but alright".

"Alright?" his mouth twitched.

"Alright, I will dance with you" with his help she got on her feet.

Gaze locked, she felt the pressure of his warm palm on her back as her left hand went on his right shoulder. Their free hands met in the air. Together, easily, they swayed their bodies to the music. Their feet in perfect sync to the beat of the song. He knew exactly where to take her. Every moment, every angle seems to be planned in advance. Nothing felt forced, she literally was floating.

As the song progressed, she relaxed and rested her head on his chest after closing her eyes. A small smile formed on her lips. Everything was perfect. The sweet melody, soft grass under their feet, cold midnight air, the scent of his perfume and the sound of his heartbeat. It all mesmerized her. She prayed silently it never came to an end.

"Sweetheart," he whispered their bodies still moving easily.

"Yes…"

"Someone is watching us"

"Who?" she inquired without raising her head from the comfort of his chest.

"Your roommate," he squeezed her hand slightly.

She opened her eyes to meet Ada, looking down at her. Her forehead creased and eyes narrowed. "Who were you dancing with?"

Omo sighed and wipe the hair from her face. "It was a dream"

"I know" a vein popped out on her neck. "Was it your boyfriend, the one in Benin?"

"No" Omo faked a smile. "And it is none of your business…"

"Hmmm…you are blushing just talking about it"

"I am not blushing…"

"If you say so", she returned to the mirror on the wall between their beds and resume combing her hairs.

"This one you are already dressed and looking hot. Where you headed?"

"The house of God," she removed her gaze from the mirror and placed it at Omo. "Hope you are coming?"

"No" her nose crinkled. "Not today, maybe next Sunday"

"You will be the only one left here because everyone is coming, including Uche"

"Uche will be going?" she beamed.

Ada nodded. "So you coming?"

She motioned her shoulders, "Maybe, I will try…"

The corner of Ada's mouth lifts up in a smile of achievement in the mirror before her. "Girls will always be girls" she murmured in her heart.
