13 “Knock! Knock!”

All dressed in a black jumpsuit, a black purse, and a white high heel to brighten things up. So, people won't think she was headed to a funeral. Ada decided to check up on Uche and also invite him for church. At his door, she adjusted her dress, smoothen her hair and took a deep breath before screaming.

"Knock! Knock!" she waited for about ten seconds, no responses.

"Knock! Knock!" she repeated.

"Yes! Who is that?" came from inside.

"Why don't you come out and see…"

In seconds, the key ticked, the handle went down, the door gave way. Gradually exposing Uche bare-bodied with a gray-colored short. His skin was tanned with dark brown hairs lined on his chest down to his abdomen. His symmetric face brightens at the sight of her. His dark brown eyes framed by graceful brows shined as he smiled at her.

"You look beautiful" he whispered.

A blush appeared on her dark cheeks. She removed her eyes from his body and placed it on his face. "It is the goodness of the Lord".

"I love your white heels… it goes well with the black"

"Hmm… you just want me to enter this ground" she snorted a laugh and gave him a slight slap on his arm.

"So, where are you going?"

"Church" she gazed at his face, studying it, waiting for feedback but it was blank. "Hope you are coming?"

"Nah… I don't do village churches"

"Who told you it is a village church?"

"What other kind of church will be in a village?" His brow went up.

"My brother, the church of Christ is in your heart. It is not a physical building or a place. We just go to a place for the sense of community and to worship the Lord together. After all, the Bible says 'When two or three are gathered together in his name, his is there in their midst". She went on, her hands gesturing and embellishing every word.

"I am not coming…" his face twisted.

"Alright, but you will be the only one here because everyone else is coming, including Omo".

The smile returned. "Including Omo?"

"Yeah" she motioned with a slow head movement and a smile.

"Hmm," shyly, Uche rubbed the back of his neck. "Maybe… I will come to see what a village church looks like"

"Maybe… I will be expecting the both of you…"

"Ok"

"Bye"

Ada shook her head as she walked towards the main entrance. "Men will always be controlled by their dicks" she whispered in her heart. Almost immediately, she realized saying that on a Sunday was sinful, she quickly made the sign of the cross over her chest.

*

Some men avoid, better still, fear bright colors but not Uche. He loves them and will put on any as long as it suits him. Back in the university, his colleagues thought him gay because of his choice of colors. One of the bravest things he did was to dress for himself, ignoring the naysayers until people came to admire him.

He stood out on the veranda, all dressed up in baby pink colored trousers, a white T-Shirt, and a blue blazer with a black Oxford shoe to match.

"Hi" a familiar voice came from behind. Uche turned to find the lady from the previous day. She was dressed in a blue body-hugging gown and a red cover shoe.

"Hello!" his jaw dropped. "So you are a corp member?"

"Yeah," her purple-colored lips formed into a smile. "I was going to Ikot Epkene to visit someone, that's why I didn't stop here and I came back late at night."

"Wow… it is really nice to meet you" he held out his hand. "I am Uche"

She took it, her soft palm lost in his. "Yemi… You are very tall oh" she glanced up at his face.

"A quick fact" he smiled. "Do you know that if you are above six feet, you are taller than seventy percent of the world population?"

"Really?" she was taken aback, wondering how that was relevant to what they were saying.

"And I am just 6.5 feet tall" she motioned his shoulders.

"I see…"

"And, you look beautiful" he sent her a wink.

"Thanks… I wish I can tell you how many percents of the world I am prettier than…"

"Nah, you can't" he shook his head. "That is for tall people only"

"Hope you are going to church?" she required after ending the shake.

"Yes… I am waiting for Omo. We are going together".

"Alright… I love your blazer"

"Thanks" he answered watching her walk away. Right there he made up his mind to be careful with her. She is certainly the sister to Jesus. He will avoid anything that will lead to an argument about religion with her. For if any reason that happens, their newfound friendship is sure to die prematurely.
