Hunt

I sat down and introduced myself as I was asked.

"My name is Matthew, what's yours?"

She then turned to me.

"It's nice to meet you, my name is Serena Albus."

We then turned away from each other listening to the lecture the teacher had planned for us.

"The monsters outside of Lysanburg, are classified in different ranks, sizes and class. The ranks include: ranks, E, D, C, B, A, and S. While the the sizes can include: tiny, small, medium, large, and colossal. Classes can vary as well..."

The teacher turned back to us, and narrowed his eyes.

"Reynolds, what are you staring at Matthew for? Are you perhaps interested in this individual? If so, save it for when class ends."

The entire class snickered, when I looked back Reynolds flushed in embarrassment, and rage.

"...as I was saying, classes may vary, but there are too many to list in one lesson, so we will continue with ranks, and sizes during this lesson."

The teacher drew a chart of the different ranks positioned into a triangular form.

"This."

He pointed to the area listed: D rank.

"Is the most common type of monster that you will encounter during your time as a hunter, there are countless monsters discovered in this rank, but only roughly 12% of these beasts have been brought back for official documentation and dissection, to figure out the best way to kill them."

He then pointed to the area listed E rank.

"The reason why the weakest of monsters is not the most common is because even among monsters, E ranks are not likely to be born."

He pointed to the spot listed S rank.

"This...on the other hand is the rarest rank among both monsters and humans, and like monsters and humans, there have only been one S rank hunter, and one S rank monster, the monster was discovered on a raid in Ferus, for extra ferus to build more knives and the like. But during this a monster of unknown power arrived and completely decimated the team of hunters, including the S rank hunter, who by the looks of it, fought for a very long time, lasting around 20 minutes against this monster."

He erased the board and paused.

"Now, for the area on sizes—"

The bell suddenly rung from the church outside.

"...it will be continued tomorrow."

The teacher walked out of the room while saying: "you're all dismissed."

Just as I was about to leave, a hand was on my shoulder.

"Where do you think you're going?"

Reynolds, Dan, and Eddie.

"What do you want?"

"You know what we want."

Dan, Eddie tried to grab my arms.

"It's not going to happen again Reynolds."

With that, I began sprinting out the doors into the halls.

"Hey! Get the fuck back here!"

I kept running until I made it back to the stairs towards the lower plateau, by then, I was running out breath, and was yanked back to the ground.

"You...fucker...making me run all that way..."

Reynolds was panting, with Dan grasping his chest trying to catch his breath, after all he was a very...heavy person. And Eddie? I couldn't see Eddie anywhere.

"Stop."

Reynolds turned around.

"What do you want? This is our business! If you don't go away, I call my father!"

"I don't even know who you are."

"What?! I'm Reynolds! The heir of the Dennet family!"

Who was that? Reynolds was still holding me down, and my strength had already left me.

Reynolds took another look at the person.

"You know what? You're actually really pretty, tell you what I'll let him go if you promise to become one of my concubines."

The girl made a sound of disgust.

"Why would I marry you? You're the son of a pig, and a prattler at that."

Reynolds looked taken aback.

"W—what, do you know what I could have done to you?! Swear you'll become my concubine now, or else!"

"Do you know who you're talking to?"

"I don't need to! My father has the highest social status in all of Lysanburg!"

The girl sighed.

"Just let the boy go and you don't tarnish your family's name anymore than you have."

Reynolds sneered, then took ahold of my collar and hoisted me into the air with great effort.

"And...what...are...you...gonna do?"

He had positioned me just above the stairs.

"Hey Reynolds, seriously! Stop!"

I was yelling at him, struggling.

"If you drop me from here, I'll really die!"

"Shut up! You shouldn't even be up here in the first place! The only reason you were able to attend is because your peasant father died! I'm the one with real talent! Not you!"

I felt myself floating, then falling, the world around me froze, I fell to the lower plateau, but what I felt wasn't the cold of the ground, but instead the embrace of her arms, saving me from death, the girl who I had neglected before, now shone brilliantly, with sharp eyes, and silver hair: Serena Albus.
