10 RESCUING THEIR BEST FRIEND

While her father drove the car back to the city, to where Brigette lives, Serina was running her power at full force – just as much as she could since she didn't know what was the extent of her ability.

"Mom, call the police immediately. There are three people circling her house right now. They're armed." Serina stated and her mother didn't ask for more information before flipping her phone to open it and call the police hotline immediately. Worried for her other friend, Serina also called Hillary.

"Rina? My brother and I are on the way to Brigette's house." Hillary stated as soon as she picked the call coming from her best friend.

"Don't come so close to her house. The people are armed. Don't ask me how I know just follow my instruction."

"Well, okay." Hillary responded, still confused but she could tell that Serina wasn't joking. Her heart was pounding so hard in her chest, afraid that something bad would happen to her best friend.

On the other hand, Brigette was hiding inside her closet. She could see the shadows lurking around her house and she could tell that it wasn't just one person.

'Are they here to rob the house?' Brigette thought. 'But we're not really rich.' She added. She's just talking to herself while holding her phone tightly. She ended the call earlier because it was taking so much of the battery life so, she was thinking of saving the remaining few percent to call her parents at the crucial time.

'Breathe in. Breath out. Keep it low. Stay calm.' At this point, she could only try her best to calm herself. She knew that nothing good will come out if she panics and she also trusted her friends. She knew that they'd come and rescue her. She already sent a message to her parents and also called the police hotline. However, aside from giving her address and a brief description of what's happening, she can't talk much. She's afraid that they'd hear her voice.

'CRASH!'

Brigette flinched when she heard the loud crashing sound coming from the kitchen of their house. She covered her mouth with her hands and suppressed the sobs that were threatening to come out from her throat. Her tears were falling and she was shaking visibly only that, no one can see the fear in her eyes.

Their front door can't be opened that easily because there's a screen which can be locked twice from the inside. The same thing is for their door at the back which was directed to their kitchen. She didn't know how they got inside because as far as she knew, there shouldn't be any door that can be broken so easily in their home.

The still and deafening silence that enveloped the house after that crashing moment made Brigette moved even deeper inside her closet. If she can right in the wall of her closet, she'd be doing that. Sadly, she couldn't.

She heard the light footsteps of several people coming up to the second floor. She could hear them opening the door to her parents' room. They were talking in hush voices but she could faintly hear the words accessories and gadgets.

Sweats were rolling down her face already and she was having a hard time to breath in a very small compartment. She thought she'd be suffocated to death.

"Come this way." Another man called to his accomplices and this time, Brigette knew she's doomed to perish from the surface of the earth. The man opened the door to her room but it was lock. "This room must be owned by their daughter." The same man stated while looking around the room.

Brigette could clearly see their figures through the small gap of her closet. Her body was becoming numb and she could feel the tingling sensation from her feet, as if ants were crawling from deep within her skin. She wanted to move but she couldn't. She remained statue in her closet.

"Too bad she's not home. We could have fun with her if she's here." Another man retorted which sent shivers down to Brigette's spine.

"That doesn't matter anymore. Just get whatever valuable items we can get from this house."

"Alright."

They opened her drawers and took some of her valuable jewelries. One of them was the necklace that Serina gave her when they were in 6th grade. It was a birthday gift from her best friend and even though she's not very knowledgeable about accessories, Brigette knew how to search for information. It looked ordinary but it was actually very expensive.

They also took her laptop and some other items that looked expensive in their eyes.

One of the men looked around and then, his eyes was stuck to the closet. Brigette's breathing hitched and her chest felt so painful from the pounding of her heart. Every step the man took towards the closet was like a hammer smashing on her chest.

Her tears kept falling on her face as well as her sweat. She was horrified.

"Sh*t!" one of the men cursed loudly and stopped taking more of her things. Before Brigette could register what happened, the men, who just robbed her home, ran out of her room one after another. That's when she realized that the blaring sound of the police car's siren alerted these men.

Even so, she didn't dare come out of her closet. She was afraid that those robbers would suddenly return to her room.

"Bridge!" Hillary's loud voice startled Brigette in relief and when she came out of her closet, her best friend also came inside to her room. "Thank God you are alright." She hugged her best friend tightly and rubbed her back. "I'm sorry my mind blanked out and I didn't remember calling the police. Thank goodness, Serina remembered doing so."

"Serina? Didn't she attend a party with her family?"

"Well, she ditched that party for you." Hillary replied in nonchalance. "And don't worry, everything that was taken from your house will be returned in a while."

"They're caught?"

"Uh huh. They're a bunch of stupid robbers which made the police officers catch them easily."

Brigette felt her legs wobbled from the numbness and exhaustion. It wasn't until she relaxed herself did she feel these things. She slumped on the floor and fainted.
