5 Copycat

After a couple of days of resting we packed our things and headed to the airport. We were heading to our next destination, Chicago. When we got to the airport we were surrounded by screaming fans and so we had to politely push through and then soon after I was stuck on a plane with Jimin complaining to me for about 2 and a half hours.

When we arrived at O'Hare airport it was already noon. We politely pushed through another crowd of screaming fans who were actually not as bad as the ones in New York, and got in a black SUV that was waiting for us at the exit of the airport. We arrived at our hotel about an hour and a half later, checked in and went up to our rooms. We split up and drew straws to see who would bunk with who and it just happened to be that I got Jimin, again. We went into our room and set our things down.

"I'm so bored. I want to do something," whined Jimin.

"Then go do something," I replied pointing towards the door.

Jimin sat on the small sofa at the end of the bed and turned on the television. It was the news.

The headlines read, Breaking News: Current Happenings with the Angel of Death Murders.

"What the," said Jimin under his breath.

"What?" I asked looking up from my laptop.

"Look at this," replied Jimin.

I got up from my spot and went over to him to see what he was watching.

"You're watching the news, wow you must be really bored," I replied laughing.

"No, look," said Jimin in a serious tone.

I smiled and looked at the screen. My smile turned into an annoyed frown.

"What the hell? How is this- What is this-"

"Looks like you've made international tv," said Jimin.

"Yeah, but this isn't what I wanted," I replied. "Besides I haven't killed anyone in weeks."

"Well perhaps there is another copycat out there," suggested Jimin.

"In The States? How is that possible? All my kills occurred on the other side of the world, there is no way in hell someone here would know about them," I replied.

"Jungkook, you have to face it, you have a copycat and they probably followed you out here. You have to find them and kill them if you want to keep your spotlight," said Jimin.

"That's exactly what I'll do then- wait why are you all of sudden so interested in my being infamous for those deaths? You've been against all this since the beginning," I replied suspicious.

"I'm just a caring brother. I care about your happiness," said Jimin with a smile.

"Uh huh, okay?" I replied. "The copycat could be anyone, this is going to be difficult, I mean for all I know you could be him, but that's highly unlikely and impossible, I mean you always cry at the those animal shelter commercials." I let out a chuckle.

"I do not!" said Jimin defensively. "And obviously it wouldn't be me, I'd never go behind your back."

"Well let's go." I said as I closed my laptop and got my Timberlands on.

"Go? Go where?" asked Jimin looking at me confused.

"Out, you said you were bored, did you not, are you still bored? Or not? I mean I wouldn't mind staying in and sleeping," I retorted.

"No, I am. Let's go." Jimin said quickly as he grabbed his things and went for the door.

We went out and walked around for a few hours and then stopped at a restaurant to eat, sushi. I was pretty skeptical that we were going to have a good dinner but the sushi went down like butter and the miso soup was warm and delicious, we had a great dinner, and the owners of the restaurant offered us a discount on our meals but we kindly declined. After we finished eating, we visited the Shedd Aquarium. There were so many colorful fish yet there were also so many bland fish. But I tended to find the beauty in the bland fish over the colorful ones, the overrated ones.

"Jungkook, there you are. I think we should go now, I'm tired of looking at fish." Jimin said as he came over to me interrupting my train of thought.

We walked and walked more until we made it to downtown and did some shopping. My feet were killing me. By the time we were done and really tired it was already 11:45pm. So we headed back to the hotel. When we were just a few blocks away from the hotel we got ambushed by some fans. What luck! We took some selfies with them, autographed some pictures and sent them on their way. When we first became famous I loved those moments with fans, now I've begun to dread them.

We made it back to the hotel soon after and went up to our room and as soon as our heads hit our pillows we both fell asleep instantly.

"Jungkook!" screamed a familiar woman's voice from behind me.

I turned to find the owner of the voice. But there was no one there.

"Mom? Is that you?!" I yelled back.

"Son!" said a man's voice.

"Dad? Are you there?!" I yelled again. "Where are you?!"

I was alone. Darkness surrounded me. I was back to the closet when that dreadful day approached, my birthday. I was falling. Then in a field of snow. Cold but beautiful. I walked about the path in front of me. It was silent. Only the sound of the wind filled my ears. I saw a child in the distance. I reached out to him, but he just got further and further away. I finally caught up.

"Wait! Who are you?" I said as I grabbed his shoulder. He stopped and turned.

"Ahhh!" a hoarse scream came from my throat. The child had no face.

"Hello mister can you please help me?" said the faceless boy.

"Aaaaaahhhhhh!!!!" I let out a scream of terror and agony.

"It's my birthday and I can't seem to find my mommy and daddy," said the faceless boy.

His appearance changed. He was now wearing a pair of blue jeans, a red t-shirt and a pair of white adidas. There was fresh blood all over him.

"Mister, can you please help me? My mommy and daddy are dead and my big brother disappeared."

"NOOO!!" I yelled out again. I remembered seeing that exact outfit, because I was the one wearing it. I looked down at the faceless boy again, his face was getting clearer, it was me! "AAHHH!!!!"

I jumped up wide awake. "Mister can you help me?" the boy was standing at the foot of my bed.

"NOOO!!!" I jumped out of my bed and stumbled to the corner by the window. Sweat ran down my face. My hair was damp and I was shivering.

"J-Jimin! W-What is h-happening to me?!" He didn't answer. I looked up over at his bed, it was empty. The time I needed him most, he decided to go out on one of his runs.

When Jimin came back I was laying on the floor hugging myself next to his bed sound asleep.

I felt shaking and heard a soft voice. Afraid of who or what it was, I slowly opened my eyes and carefully looked up at the person who was standing in front of me. I could see blurry blots of red on his white shirt, he had a look of worry on his face.

"Kookie? You okay?" asked Jimin.

"H-Hyung? What happened?" I replied.

"That's what I'm asking you. I just got back," said Jimin.

"No, what happened to you? You're bleeding," I replied pointing to the big crimson spots on his shirt.

Jimin looked down at his shirt and then back up at me.

"I'm fine. This is nothing," he replied.

I could tell he was lying. There was definitely something up. I looked at him and then got up on my feet, I stumbled back and then regained my balance.

"Hyung? Where were you last night?" I asked curiously.

"Out on a midnight jog, why?" replied Jimin.

"It's just- nevermind." I shook my head.

"What?" asked Jimin curious.

"It's just that I had one of my dreams last night and I really needed you. I got really worried when I didn't see you in bed," I replied.

"I'm sorry, I should've told you. Can you forgive me?" said Jimin.

"Of course," I replied.

Jimin went into the bathroom to shower. I sat on the small sofa just next to the bed and turned on the T.V. I was curious as to what was going on in current events, maybe Trump was starting to be a better person, I doubt it.

"This is breaking news on NBC5 Morning News, a body was just found earlier this morning. Authorities are saying that it has all the same methodology as the infamous international killer from Seoul, South Korea, Angel of Death, even the exact same signature was left. Authorities are saying this is the sixth body in a rash of murders in the city in the past few days. No matter what they do, the Angel of Death seems to always be one step ahead of them. He or she is impossible to find."

"Hey Hyung, come look at this," I said aloud to Jimin.

"Yeah?" he yelled back through the door.

"Come out here, you have to see this?" I replied.

"Just a minute, let me finish getting dressed," he replied.

He came out a few seconds after.

"What is it Jungkook?" asked Jimin.

"Look," I replied pointing at the T.V.

"Yeah, what about that?" asked Jimin.

"Do you know what's been happening? Maybe even who this is? Cause I know it's definitely not me," I replied.

"Well I certainly can't tell you what's been happening. You know me, I would never go behind your back," said Jimin defensively, his voice started to shake, his forehead sparkling as sweat started to drip down it.

"Yeah you said that earlier, huh," I thought for a second. "Hyung? Do you remember when we were younger, I would always ask you for something and you would hide it if you didn't want to give it to me, I would then ask you where you put it and you would tell me one place and I would always know you were lying?" I asked.

"Yes, why?" replied Jimin.

"Here's the thing, you have a tell when you're lying. And well, you're lying, right to my face. Only someone really close to the Angel of Death would know those certain tiny details. He would have to be able to slip out of places while everyone else was asleep or busy and slip back in early in the morning when everyone was still sound asleep," I said.

"Jungkook, I swear I would never lie to you," replied Jimin.

My mind suddenly went blank and all I could hear was screaming now.

"OH GOD!!!"

I heard a bloodcurdling scream coming from downstairs.

"Jungkookie! Where are you?" yelled Jimin.

I got up from my hiding spot in the closet and slowly went down the steps to find Jimin, covered in blood, standing next to our parents bodies, along with the lifeless body of the man who killed them. His body had been mutilated beyond recognition.

"Hyung?! You're home!" I ran into his arms crying.

"I'm sorry, I wasn't here sooner," replied Jimin.

"I'm just glad you're here now," I cried.

"Jungkook I did something very bad, you have to promise you won't tell anyone. Okay?" said Jimin.

"You destroyed the man who killed mommy and daddy," I replied.

"No, don't tell the officers that come, because if you do, you may not ever see me again," said Jimin in a serious tone. "Okay?"

"Okay, hyung. I won't," I replied.

My mind got clear again and I had a realization. "It was you, all this time. You're the copycat."

"Yes, it was me. I did it all for you, you have to know that. Mom and dad made me promise I would protect you always no matter what," replied Jimin. "They didn't want you to go down the same path as me. They didn't want you to become like me. Unfortunately, I couldn't stop that."

"But, I don't understand," I said confused.

"Mom made me promise before she died that I would keep you away from all the murder and violence," replied Jimin.

"Before she died? But I don't understand," I said.

"She was already at death's door. After I came back home the man was about to kill mom but I got to him first. After I killed him, mom was saying things to me, things that didn't make any sense. I went to her and she was bleeding from her head. She had a very bad head wound. I didn't want you to see her like that and I didn't think it was fair to make her live like that, a long painful life, so I did what any loving son would do, I killed her," replied Jimin.

I stood there and stared at him in disbelief for a moment and then laughed.

"You're joking, right? You didn't kill mom, she was already dead. When you found and killed that man," I said trying to keep laughing.

Jimin didn't laugh. He was dead serious.

"This is all your fault. This whole time I believed it was that man. How could you not tell me? She's my mother too!" I exclaimed. "Her death wasn't your decision to make."

"I never thought this day would come. You would find out the worst thing I ever did. I killed our mother. All this time that was the thing I was protecting you from, now there's just no need anymore," said Jimin.

I was pacing back and forth, deep in thought.

"Kookie, you have to believe me, when I say I did it to protect you. I'd do anything for you. I love you," said Jimin.

I looked up at him and gave him a death stare and then went back to pacing. Jimin went over to the sofa and took the remote and turned the T.V off and once he looked back up I had a gun pointed at him.

"Killing me isn't going to make your problems go away, you will never find anyone more understanding of you than me," Jimin said calmly.

"You're right hyung. Killing you won't make my problems go away," I replied lowering the gun.

Jimin smiled. "Good, now-"

"But killing myself will," I said holding the gun up to my temple.

"No, Jungkook give me the gun." Jimin reached his hand out.

"Knowing the truth hurts so much hyung. I wish I never remembered. All this pain, it will never go away," I replied, tears were falling down my cheeks.

"Killing yourself won't do anything. You'll just be dead. And the pain will never go away, you'll just pass it on to millions of others. And nobody will know what you've done, the good, you rid the streets of bad people."

I looked at him and slowly lowered the gun.

"Okay, good, now hand it to me." Jimin replied reaching out and slowly taking it from me.

I sat on the floor and sobbed. Jimin sat beside me hugging me. "It's gonna be alright. We're gonna make it through this. I'll always be here for you." He said.
