Section10

We finally made it to the dinner party after what seemed like forever. I didn't look forward to it at all. Nevertheless, John will be present, so I guess I can hang out with him. His family is invited because his parents collaborate with mine.

When we got to the door, I could already hear the music. It was more like soft piano and violin music rather than frat party music; soothing music.

As soon as we reached the door, my mother naturally gave me her "be a good girl speech."

"Honey, please don't make us look bad or say things to our coworkers that aren't necessary. You can hang out with John while we're here, "she says irritatingly.

I roll my eyes as I say, "I know mom."

"Just making sure honey."She responds.

We enter and give the man at the door our jackets..

I immediately recognize John and his parents as they converse with a different family on the other side of the banquet. While my parents talked to other coworkers, I walked over there.

I give him a big hug and say, "Hey."

He gives me a cheerful hug and says.

"Hey Al."You look beautiful."

"Thanks, you don't look too bad yourself," I reply as I lightly blushed.

In the end, we talked and caught up for a while.

From across the room, my mother called.

"Alex, can you come here for a minute?"She was surrounded by my dad's group of friends. Because I could see their backs, I couldn't see their faces.

I pardoned myself from John and strolled over to the gathering..

"Wait."He says, holding my wrist.

"Al, could you spare me a dance?"He asks.

I cheerfully responded, "Absolutely, anything for my best friend.

"John gave that a slight frown but quickly smiled it off.

I made a U-turn and began walking toward them.

Is that true? No way! Oh my God, James?

To get to my parents, I walked slower..

"Honey, meet our new colleagues, Linda and George, and their child James," My father says while pointing any every person when he says their name.

James saw me look at him. Although all he did was smile at me, I can tell he was also surprised to see me there.

I turned my head away and reached out to shake his parents' hands.

"Hi," I say politely.

"It was wonderful to meet you, Alex. George and I have heard nothing but positive things about you.

I replied, "Yes, I'm sure you have," giving my mother a fake smile and a glance.

I stood there awkwardly without trying to look at James after I dropped my hand. His eyes are poking holes in my forehead, which I can feel.

We were the only ones left when both of our parents left for other places.

His eyes followed me up my stomach from my legs and lingered too long at my chest. I couldn't quite make out what he was saying as he whispered something under his breath. I'm starting to feel self-conscious because his eyes were still on my chest.

I point to my eyes and say, "Hey, my eyes are up here."

"Apologies, it's simply that your body looks astonishing in that dress," he cooly answers.

I mumble, "Th-thank you."

I now know what he was wearing.

He was entirely dressed in black, and it hugged his body very well.

I was interrupted when he cleared his throat, and all I wanted to do was undo his shirt and run my hands down his abs.

"Do you like what you see?" He asks.
