7 The World of Z Begins

Chapter 7: The Z World Begins

Erin felt more confused about what she will do. An increasing number of people that look like zombies, or are they already one? Keep clanging on the gate trying to reach her. Their eyes were pure dilated and white, none of their pupils could be seen.

*Help me*

*Hungry*

*Save me*

Each one of them keeps repeating saying the same words all over again and again with a monotonous robotic voice or something like a broken stereo-tape recorder.

"No." That would be crazy. Zombies? But the woman earlier asked for my help. And here I am just watching her be ravaged. I must do something quickly.

Erin then senses that someone touches her right shoulder. Out of instinct and from all of this mess happening, she immediately grabs the hand of the unknown person and overthrows him/her on the ground.

*Boogsh*

*Thud*

Seeing the person who sneaks behind her, Erin's angry face change to surprise then to an apology.

"Oh, my gosh! Carlo? I'm so sorry" She grabs Carlo's hand to help him stand.

Carlo dust the dirt on his white-green stripe shirt and pants.

"Erin. It's a cool move but that hurts." Carlo begrudgingly said as he rubs his aching elbow.

"I'm so really sorry. What are you doi...No, it is not the RIGHT time for that! The woman needs my help." Erin said distressed in her voice as she looks back towards the gate and points at a certain direction.

"Stop it! She's already gone, Erin. She's lost case now and has already eaten up by those zombies. Do you think she still looks alive to you?" Carlo firmly grabs Erin's hand to stop her from foolishly going towards the gate while also looking in the direction she pointed out a while ago.

"Zombies?" Erin repeats Carlo's word as she yanked her hand forcefully from him.

"Yes. That's what I called them for now. And now, look at the woman you wanted to save." Carlo said firmly confirming her question, never minding her action too.

Erin looks back at the gate. She sights the woman standing. She has those same dilated white eyes of the people who eat her a while ago. She can't be completely recognized now with her gauge and messed up bloody body parts. Her intestines are out, while some nerves and bones from her severe left hand. And many flesh could be seen. But still, she is now walking and now banging the gate with those conditions. If she is not a zombie in this situation, then how could she still be walking and alive?

"I do-don't want to-to to die." The girl kept repeating these words as she keeps pummeling the gate.

Erin moves distances herself away from the gate. The lock is still holding out but it wouldn't be long enough before it gets destroyed.

The zombies keep hammering on the gate trying to reach them.

"Come help me cover the gate!" Erin said as she hurriedly pushed the huge vase and pull some sacks to engulf more weight to it. Carlo also does the same.

*Arf! Arf!" Choco keeps barking. "Choco, behave." With two words from Erin's annoyed voice, the huge black K-9 dog instantly quiets down.

Carlo and Erin caught their breaths after they are done putting the sacks. They head inside the house to get a drink and calm their selves for this situation right now.

*Boom!* They could still hear explosions. But it is much quieter now compared to when they're out.

She pondered with the scenes from before quickly. Digesting every situation faster.

Erin felt overly stupid. 'Saving who?' *Sigh. What am I even thinking?'

She then slaps both of her cheeks, real hard.

My sense of justice becomes more prominent since I became police which almost clouded my mind.'

Carlo tries to open his mouth, to tell Erin that this is not the time to go crazy but kept it close again when he remembered how he received a shoulder-throw earlier. After all, his body is still aching from that! Lucas was a terrific man to have Erin. Ah, no their both suit each other perfectly. They are both insane. Carlo just waits for his friend to finish her dilemmas. But then there is no enough time. Carlo remembered something.

"Ehem. I received a text from Lucas around midnight." Carlo speaks to get her attention.

Hearing this Erin instantly look to Carlo, "And?"

"I got only to read it around 4 am. He told me I should go immediately here because you might be in danger. That's why I try to rush here as soon as I read it. And when I'm out of the house this crazy sh** is already happening all over any place. People got bitten by other people and becoming zombies. This just like a typical start to those zombie movies. "Fortunately, I managed to arrive here with my motorcycle. But my bike is a goner now too." Lucas said as he sigh when he remembered how he ditched his bike by kicking it at the zombies approaching him.

"And if you're curious how I got here before I was toppled by you in this place, I climb over the walls at the back of your house. I can't really go the main front right now, 'cause you see..." Carlo added looked at the window, where they could see the front gate that has zombies still swarming now to emphasize his point.

After she listens to Carlo's words. Erin pondered again, 'I can't still believe that all of this was really happening. But there is nothing we could do but accept.

There is the first rule you must adhere to survive in any kind of situation. And that is to adapt and accept.

Lucas, this situation, did you perhaps know things will circulate like this... First, you sent me a message. Then as I got out of the house Choco is barking at the woman who is clanging the gate. Then the woman got eaten by the people that are now called zombies based on Carlo. And Carlo came here because he received a text message from you too.

"A zombie apocalypse is happening now," Erin said calmly what's in her mind.

"Obviously" Carlo run his hand on his black hair.

Somewhere in Erin's mind, she believes that things like this might actually happen. Since the Hirugea virus has circulated all over the world from country to country, many people posted theories on the net that an apocalypse might actually occur soon. She just laughs it off when she saw this and tell the topic to Lucas expecting that he would have the same reaction like her. But Lucas gave her an indifferent reaction, "Don't laugh, this might really happen to this world." He said seriously.

"This world is full of probabilities that could evolve to possibilities, Erin" He added while looking on his watch that is stating 8:30 am. At that time, Erin thought that he is just jesting.

Everything is clicking strangely together, now. She felt from since the time Lucas told her, he have a new boss in their facility, he started acting weirdly. As if he is hiding something. She knew that there's something wrong with him but she didn't heed any mind to this. She trusted Lucas deeply and thought that maybe it is all due to work, or whatever that might troubling him, he will tell her in the right time.

But now, things have escalated into this. There is some heavy feeling oozing in her heart. "Lucas also sent me a text message... If you don't mind may I see what he had sent you?" Erin just shakes it off for now and asked Carlo about the text message.

"Here it is." But as soon as Carlo will give his phone to Erin, it vibrated and ringed. Both of them saw the caller. It's Liza.

Carlo answered it immediately. "Carlo! Please help! We are being surrounded by these crazy people! Ahhhh!"

"RAWR, Give! Error!, GRRRR, RAWWR" They hear noises that are definitely from zombies!

"F*CK! The windshield is having cracks! Ahhh! Shooo! My poor new BMW M2!, I haven't finished paying the loan for this! Carlo HELP!" Liza screamed then the call was cut-off.

"Liza! Where are you right now?!"

"We are..." the call was cut-off.

"Sh*t!" Ignoring the car part from the scream, Carlo looks at Erin with worry shadowed in his blue orb eyes.

Erin heard all of this. "Let's go save Liza first," Erin said with a much calmer voice. Her black orb eyes look so tranquil, but there is a hint of some determination on them. It is the same eyes, Carlo remembered. The same eyes he saw back in the plantation when they plan the escape. The eyes when Erin is already planning everything on her head.

"I'll go prepare things quickly. Try to get the location of Liza no matter what and we will blast our way there."
