76 The Letter

THE KING

He can not believe what is unfolding before his eyes. He watches as the princess comes up to him with open arms. It is clear to him that she wants to embrace him. But he has no desire in his heart to embrace her.

As she comes closer, he grabs her arms and keeps her at a distance. Then he says irritatingly.

"What are you doing here and why are you calling me baby?"

"But, baby, we are getting married how can you be so cruel to me?"

He looks at her with a frown on his face and he is trying to understand what is happening. Then as she so graciously blows her breath in his face he smells the alcohol on her breath. He knows now that she is drunk and that would be the reason for her attitude.
