6 The first kill (New Version)

[Now I finally can read the game news.] Ye Yan walked to the City Gate while looking for useful information on the forum. The way you can look at the forum and the character information are totally different. In the latter, you only need to concentrate and the data would appear in your mind; but the information on the forum or others, like item description, and monsters names, the players will need to effectively read from scrolls to increase the realism of the game. Players need to open a scroll that they receive when they registered in the Adventurer's Guild to know this kind of information. It's is similar to what the police officers do in real-life, on what they use their communication device, that is a kind of personal computer, cellphone and watch, to know any kind of information from people, like name, ID, age and others[1]. And the character information is something personal. People can't know their bone density or how many liters of blood there are in their bodies just looking at it and it's the same about the character information.

As the saying goes, "Time is money", so Ye Yan wasted no time and rushed to the Adventurers' Guild as soon as he entered Gaia, or else, he would be stuck in there for who knows how long with so many people logging in the game now. He took advantage that many people would take a long time in the character creation to rush to the Adventurer's Guild and do the procedures, so he could save a lot of game time.

With the game release, the forum managers posted some of the game information to orientate players at the beginning of the game about what they should prioritize and some other basic information. The system is controlled by a god A.I. but the forums are still being managed by CyberTech employees. Future updates created by the system would automatically send their basic information to the company so the managers could post it on the forums.

First, players can start the job change quest at level 2 but they can only finish the last step at level 5. To start the quest, players will need to go to the Adventure Guild and look for an NPC called Qiao Qiuyue after completing at least two quests from the Quest Board on the Adventurer's Guild. The NPC will give a letter of recommendation and guide the players to the location where they will apply for the job change quest. Each class will start their job change quest at different locations.

When a player reaches level 20, specialized job advanced quests will be available for players, and each region will have an exclusive class besides the common ones. The Yan Empire has four exclusive classes: Cultivator (fighter, swordsman, thief, and archer), Magic Cultivator (mage, doctor and fighter), Luminous Dancer (thief, doctor, and swordman), and Pill Master (merchant and doctor). After the job change, the players would keep their original skills and new ones specifically for the new classes, making a wide variety of character builds. Players that want to job change in another region will have to apply for an exchange with the Mayor so they will be teleported to the others region to do the quest and will be teleported back after completing it.

Regarding equipment and stats, it reports that characters can equip 13 items: headgear, body armor, pants, footgear, belt, gloves, bracers, pauldrons, cape, one amulet, two rings, and one relic. Some equipment will have slots for gems and runestones. Equipment of platinum rank or superior can be enchanted. The equipment has durability and when it reaches 0, it will be broken. Only items of rank adamantium or superior can be repaired.

Some attributes like charism and attunement can't be increased with equipment. Basic movement speed begins at 6 km/h and can only be increased with agility. [2]

[I will have to remember everything.] Ye Yan sighed. [Yunfan definitively will bug me to help him. He always says that too much information gives him headaches.] His friend is very good at battle in-game but always has problems understanding more complex information, which is strange because he is good at using skills combos and the like. Sometimes Ye Yan doubts if his friends really have difficulty with complex information or are just lazy.

The news gave detailed information about stats and skills too. The previous news just mentioned the main attribute of each class, probably for players do not feel lost when they are required to distribute their points in the tutorial.

He kept the scroll in his bag, equipped the [Beginner's Dagger], and looked at its attributes. [Not bad! My attack power is now 21. Let's see how the slimes in this game are. I need to release some stress.]

He started to walk to the East Gate of the city while taking note of everything on his way there. The City of Ji is a human city and is difficult to find any other races and when he got to see them, they are players. When he was halfway there, he saw a dog running in the street trying to attack people from afar. He was foaming at the mount and looked mad. Some players tried to defeat him but were bitten instead, dying almost instantly. Afterward, the dog resumed his attacks on the NPCs. The scene looked like someone released a fox in the henhouse. They do have reason to run for their lives, rabies is an incurable disease after all. After 1 minute of the dog wreaking havoc in the street, the soldiers got to their location and killed the dog, taking the wounded NPCs and players away [3]. This showed that the players aren't safe in the cities.

He took 20 minutes to get to the East Gate with his speed of 6km/h. He tried to run from time to time too but it burns his stamina really fast. After 30 more minutes of walking, he finally got to the area with slimes. This place is a vast flat land with some widely spaced trees. There are slimes of different colors scattered across the field, blue, red, yellow, green, white, brown, pink, and purple. The slimes look like a ball of phlegm, slimy and sticky, mostly the green and yellow ones. 'It's really disgusting! I didn't know we could feel like throwing up in a virtual reality game but I'm almost doing it just by looking at them. I will keep to the blue, red, white, pink, and purple ones.' Since young, Ye Yan has a weakness in disgusting things, upsetting his stomach every time he saw one. He has to thank his parents for that.

Ye Yan drew his dagger and begin his attack on a [Red slime].

[Red Slime] (Normal)

Level: 1

HP: 50

.

"What the fuck!" Almost all his attacks couldn't hit the monsters. As the FLEE of the slimes is higher than Ye Yan's HIT, he is having a hard time trying to attack them because they keep jumping and dodging. It looks like he is trying to hit a fly with a chopstick. Luckily they have Def 0, so each when it did hit, they took -21 damage and only need three hits to kill one.

System: 'You have killed a [Red Slime]. 1 exp gained!'

"Fuck! I will need to kill 300 slimes to level up." Ye Yan rage has reached max level when he discovered that he would have to stay near the disgusting slimes for a long time.

He started to imagine the slimes were those hateful rich kids of his high school and started a rampage.

[1] Some cities in China use a similar system. Some shops have video cameras that are used to identify the consumer by facial recognition and record what they are buying. The payment is made when the client leaves the shop via bank account debit.

[2] The information about the stats can be found in the auxiliary chapter "Game Mechanics".

[3] Rabies causes many victims every year in China, making the dog be one of the most dangerous animals in the Country.
