Chapter 1Prologue

The young woman was only thirty-two years old when she got into a tragic car accident and she wasn't too happy about it, as any wouldn't be.

Of course, no one would expect anything bad to happen to Susan Parks. The famous face and the name itself was quite popular around the world for her two best selling novels, her greatest accomplishment of being one of the top 1% intelligent people in the world, playing not only the piano but also the violin and guitar, and being the CEO of her own business product company with the US market tied down around her pinky finger.

Not only that, but she was drop-dead gorgeous, with beautiful ocean-blue jewels for eyes, and long golden hair. Pale and fair glowy skin, with a smile that can literally stop one's heart. Her best feature was the two deep dimples in her cheeks, and that twinkle in her eyes when she smiled.

Everything about her was flawless, even her caring personality.

Sounds like this woman lived the perfect life, didn't it? Well, that was far from the truth, because right now as she laid on the cold hard ground with countless broken bones and with her body paralyzed, she knew that this would most likely be the last time she'd see the familiar grey sky.

She thought back to the way she lived her life, and how fame and money wasn't everything when there was one thing and one thing only that she was unable to grasp. And that being love.

Of course, being the best seller author earned her many supportive fans and love from all around the world, and being beautiful brought her a lot of love in that department. But she didn't care for that type of love, it was far from what she wanted. She desired recognition from one person only, and that person being her father.

She grew up to please him, to get at least one good reaction out of him or even a nod of approval. She learned how to dance, that didn't catch his attention. She got the highest grades in the entire school, but that was nothing to him. She wrote a book that became so popular in the span of two months after its publishing date, he didn't even spare her a glance. She mastered the art of the piano, the violin, and the guitar, she was even sent to compete against musicians all around the world, earning many first and second place medals, but yet he still didn't seem impressed. She even took business and fencing classes just so she could have something in common with him.

Yet not even once had he paid her any attention, it was all about her older brother who slacked so much in school that he got kicked out a couple of times. Who never not even once tried working for anything in his life, and yet he got all father's attention and love. It was okay for her brother to mess around, father had a lot of money for he had his very own world-wide business which made sure to cover all of the brother's mistakes that could have potentially backfired on the business. She didn't understand why father picked her brother over her, she was such a good girl, always trying to be perfect and good enough everyone.

Was it because she was born a girl? Or was mothers disappearance all her fault?

Either way, she tried everything for a glimpse of his attention, thus leading her to become one of the most successful woman in the world. But he never once told her he was proud of her, he never told her he loved her or even once acknowledged her hard work. He never wished her a happy birthday or gave her a present. He never once kissed her goodnight or wished for her to have a good day at school.

All she ever got from him were blank stares. If she was ever lucky enough to have him look in her direction.

And right now, as she was laying and watching the peaceful clouds fly above her, she wondered, will he finally notice her when she's gone? Or will she have to face the humiliation of her family not showing up for her funeral?

She closed her eyes and opened them again, but this time the scenery in front of her was different. Instead of the grey clouds that she watched to calm her nerves, a golden ceiling replaced the view, it was shielding her from the outside world. Her peaceful view was replaced by something unfamiliar.

Peculiar, she thought, trying to admire the beautiful designs and curves on the walls in order to distract her from her body that began to shut down. She wasn't bothered to use her logic to figure out if she was hallucinating for her body still felt heavy and numb. Her vision soon became blurry and drowsiness washed over her. Just before she was able to fully close her eyes, a figure appeared by her side. She was able to catch on to a couple of words before her body and mind gave up.

"Oh my..."

"So, you laugh?" His voice was low, dangerously soft, making the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I swallowed hard, suddenly aware of how difficult it had become to breathe. "Hades, I—" "But you only laugh at other men's jokes," he interrupted, his gaze piercing, devoid of any humor. "Not your husband's." The accusation in his tone was sharp, slicing through the air between us. A nervous chuckle escaped me. "You can't be serious... He’s your beta, for Goddess’ sake." In an instant, he closed the distance between us, so fast it left me breathless. His hands gripped my waist, pulling me flush against his body, the heat of him making my skin tingle. I gasped, but before I could say a word, his lips crashed onto mine, claiming my mouth with a force that sent shockwaves through me. The kiss was punishing, hungry—I couldn't breathe, couldn't think. When he finally pulled back, I was trembling, my chest heaving as I struggled to regain my breath. His eyes, dark and stormy, searched mine with a possessive intensity. "You can’t laugh at my jokes..." he whispered, his voice a dangerous rasp as his fingers trailed lower, sending a shiver down my spine, "but you’ll come with my fingers." I shivered, heat pooling low in my belly at his words, his touch. The world around us blurred, fading into nothing as his hand slipped lower, drawing a ragged gasp from my lips. The look in his eyes told me he knew exactly what he was doing to me, and there was no denying the primal connection between us in that moment. "I don’t need your laughter," he murmured against my skin, his breath hot on my neck. "I’ll have every other part of you instead." **** Dark fantasy romance Morally Grey ML Angst Suspense ENEMIES to lovers Smut (like sprinkles on your ice cream)
