44 C41 Expedition & Herd

After getting advice from my father, I went straight to my study to write up the decree. Due to the low level of education in this world, I will have to send some people to read it to the farmers. This would take time if I didn't have Nova. She already explored the majority of the Duchy, so she can teleport someone to each village, town, and city. After writing the decree and stamping it with the seal of the Duke of Ephia, I use book creation to make copies of it for each place. I was worried that it wouldn't work, but what's a book if not written paper bound together?

The decree states everything I know about selective breeding, and the order to start doing it after this year's harvest. It also states that the tax on their yield every harvest will be lowered to 40%. This should put some pep in their step, and get them excited.

I gather my royal guard and have Nova send them off. Only Nobles can enter the royal guard, so they all know how to read. Each of them was told to gather the populace of every area and read the decree. After reading the decree throughout the day, they were to give the decree to whoever's in charge of each area, so they can enforce it in case some farmers don't listen. For larger places like towns and city's, I sent multiple people to make things quicker.

While I was looking into the farming of this world, I also investigated animal husbandry. Animal husbandry is the breeding and caring of farm animals. They seem to be doing alright, but they need to expand. The problem is farms can't produce enough crops for that to start happening. When crop yield increases, I can start worrying about animal farming. Then I can use selective breeding in plants as an example for selective breeding in animals. Although, that's going to have to wait, so I'm going to put that plan on the back burner for now.

Since that's taken care of, let's send out my order of knights to deal with the syndicate.

"Souei!" I call and he exits my shadow.

"Yes?" He answers.

"Bring me Cole, Oscar, and Floyd." I order and he disappears only to return a moment later with them. They were dressed in knight armor and looked extremely tired. The second they noticed me they kneeled and bowed their heads.

"Your Highness!" They called in unison.

"I've brought you out of the dungeon because I have a job for you, but before that how far have you made it in the dungeon?" I ask.

"We made it to the 80th floor, My lord. Although we wouldn't have been able to make it that far without Souei's help." Floyd says and the rest nod their heads.

"Good, but you'll be out of the dungeons for a while, as you will be cleaning up the remaining syndicate in my Duchy." I say.

"We'll gladly serve, Your Highness!" Cole states and the rest seem to agree.

"I'm putting Floyd in charge, as he's the oldest of the three of you. I'll dispatch a hundred knights to accompany you, and you'll leave tomorrow morning. Go and get some rest. Rem will show each of you to a room in the Manor, and Souei will bring you all the information you'll need to get this down." I say and Rem escorts them to a guest room for the night. I look over at Souei. "Get them everything on the syndicate and the files of the knight order members. They should know who they're leading." Souei nods and returns to my shadow. I'm sure he's dispatched a clone to get all of that done.

The next morning, my knight order left the city bright and early. I sent a Souei clone with them to keep track of them, and who knows maybe some syndicate member is an elder. I doubt that, but having someone with them that can deal with an elder is smart.

A week past, and it's my birthday! I'm now seven years old. I spent half the day with my dad and the other half with my mom. When I arrived at my mother's tent, she didn't look happy.

"What's wrong?" I asked and she noticed my arrival.

"Hey, Sweetheart." She says and hugs me as usual.

"Why were you upset?" I ask again.

"It's nothing you have to worry about." She says avoiding the question.

"Tell me what's wrong or I'll stop visiting you every morning." I threaten and she rolls her eyes at me.

"You've becomes very bossy since you became a lord, haven't you?" She asks rhetorically with a smile on her lips. I just stare at her until she talks.

"Fine! I'm just annoyed with this whole situation! This should've been done already! We keep killing and killing core beasts but the herd keeps getting bigger somehow! It just makes no sense! I've dealt with another herd before, and it wasn't nearly this bad! I dread to think what will happen if this keeps escalating like this." She shakes her head and looks panicked and scared as she says this.

"Alright, This is definitely something I have to worry about. Does father know?" I ask.

"Yes, he knows, and he said we may have to mobilize the army to deal with the herd." She says.

"Can we afford to mobilize so soon after the civil war?" I ask. Soldiers need to be paid, fed, and equipped. That costs money and a lot of it.

"Maybe? Your father would know, but I doubt it." She says.

"Alright, give me some time to think about this, and I'll come up with a way to fix it." I say and she smiles at me.

'Souei, investigate the herd of core beasts, and where they're originating.'

'Yes, Master.'

"You do that, honey." She says and smiles happily, but it comes out kind of condescending. I know she doesn't mean it but it felt that way. I may have helped with the war, but not enough for her to put her confidence in me for something this drastically important. "In the meantime, I heard it was somebody's birthday." She says and rummages through a trunk in the tent. She pulls out a silver-colored necklace with a leaf shape pendant and shows it to me. "Before I left home and became an adventurer, my mother gave me this and said it would keep me safe." She and places it around my neck. "I have been worried about you ever since you started living in Sena, so keep this necklace close to you, alright?" She says and I nod. "Good, happy birthday, sweetheart."

"Thanks, Mom." I say and hug her to show my appreciation. This is definitely a death flag!

'Souei, up the clone guards on my mother. Make sure that she'll be fine even if a million core beasts come for her. Do you understand?'

'Yes, Master. Your mother's protection will be my top priority from now on.'
