33 The foreboding (I)

Fu Yixiao woke up early the next morning and as usual, she walked to the balcony to breathe in the fresh air. She loved the garden view, something that helped to boost her mood of the day.

She spotted the gazebo she was at the night before and Wu Zhaoyi appeared on her mind. 'Hmmm, why do I think about him?' She quivered when her thought started to wander on its own, somehow circulating around the figure of a man.

'Ahh, forget about him!' She yelled in her mind and slowly spread her arms, accumulating all the positive flame the morning sun had to offer.

"Young Miss, are you awake?" Liling's voice came from an intercom speaker on a coffee table inside her room. It was faint because of the distant but Fu Yixiao's sharp hearing caught the remnants of it. "Yes, come in." She answered and soon the room's door was opened from the outside. Liling entered the room carrying a tray with a stack of pancakes on it.

"Liling, you are the best!" Fu Yixiao exclaimed as she took the plate of pancakes from the tray and put them on the coffee table. There was happiness in her eyes like a child who received her favorite toy for the first time. Liling was already grinning watching her young miss bounced in joy.

It took a month for Liling to identify the likes and dislikes of her young miss for she never mentioned them explicitly to her. Upon knowing that her young miss loved tea and pancakes for breakfast, she had been practicing making them in her spare times, almost crowning her the expert crown.

"Let's enjoy the food!" Fu Yixiao said a blessing and poured a dash of honey on top of her pancake. She ushered Liling to join, however, she was just standing there, grinning. "Liling?" Fu Yixiao called, and the moment she got her attention she motioned for her to take a seat and ate breakfast together.

Liling smiled in embarrassment and sat on a chair opposite her young miss. This was already a routine for Liling and sometimes Tony would also join in. Fu Yixiao had insisted that both of them should eat with her and not served her like some spoiled young misses.

"Where is Tony?" Fu Yixiao asked and savored a slice of the pancake into her mouth. The sweet taste of honey made her smile in satisfaction. "Young Miss, he is in the hangar, checking the aircraft," Liling answered and with her puffy cheek she continued, "Young Miss, may I go with you to Z Royal School?" Her big eyes were blinking in anticipation.

"Sure." Hearing her young miss approval, Liling almost choked herself due to the excitement. She drank her tea in one go to relieve the pain on her throat and poured another till her stomach growled. Fu Yixiao could only sigh at her antics and continued enjoying her breakfast.

"Xiao meimei, where are you going?" Lu Xinya queried when she saw Fu Yixiao walked out of the elevator. She had been trying to have a conversation with Fu Yixiao however she was always absent from the mansion except for today. There was a question she needed to ask and today she didn't want to miss the opportunity to do so. Not when she was right in front of her.

Fu Yixiao stared at the girl standing opposite her. Her brown short hair accentuated her sharp jaw giving her a mature look. She was Lu Xinya, the girl she had noticed been following her around whenever she saw her.

"Outside." Fu Yixiao answered with a slight smile on her face, trying not to be rude but not so friendly at the same time. Knowing that she was one of the candidates, her guard was up.

"Xiao meimei, this may be sudden but do you still remember me?" Lu Xinya gained the courage to ask and was patiently waiting for her answer. Her heart started to palpitate when Fu Yixiao was only staring at her in silence.

Honestly, she was scared of her answer for it had been five years. Those were a long time and the possibility of Fu Yixiao to forget her was high. Still, she was betting on that sibling kind of relationship she once had with her.

"I'm sorry Miss Lu Xinya, but I have no recollection of you." Fu Yixiao answered as a matter of fact and bowed, making her way to the hangar where Tony was already waiting. She was surpised when Lu Xinya asked such question but assumed that she was only asking out of curiosity.

"Xiao meimei!" Fu Yixiao discontinued walking when Lu Xinya called her name.

"I'm Lu Xinya who grew up with you at Tu Island. I'm the one who taught you everything that you needed to survive on the island. Do you really not remember me? Or is it because you are better than me that I'm no longer significant to you?" There was frustration in her voice. Her eyes were swollen as tears invaded her cheek, clinging as it continuously ran on her soft skin and dropped to her dress,

"Don't you remember when we went to the survival camp? I was the one protecting you." She said and as if recalling something, she ripped the bottom part of her dress, revealing a thick and jagged scar.

"Look! Do you remember me now?" She asked with a faint smile on her face.

Fu Yixiao shallowed her saliva, trying to process the information she had received from Lu Xinya. She exhausted her brain trying to recall such memories but no matter what she did, nothing showed up.

"I'm sorry. I really don't remember anything." She said as her eyes blurred due to the exhaustion. Blinking, she managed to gain her vision and saw Lu Xinya walked toward her. Her face was downcast not believing what Fu Yixiao had told her.

"Xiao meimei, I know we need to keep some secret but no one is here now. You can speak the truth." Lu Xinya whispered and a smile flashed on her face. Somehow, it made Fu Yixiao shivered as fear gripped her heart. However, the sight of her also pained her heart.

"Miss Lu Xinya, I'm sorry. But no matter what you told me, I really don't have such memories." She repeated and stared at Lu Xinya's dull face. The smile she showed a moment ago had disappeared replaced with a painful expression on her face.

That was when Lu Xinya's phone beeped. She stared at her phone and a tight wrinkle appeared on her forehead. Her mouth twitched, seemed unhappy with what she read.

She wrapped her face with her palm

and after a while she returned to her normal self, a contrast to what she was earlier. Fu Yixiao was startled at her sudden change in manners. The girl who was clinging and begging for her earlier had disappeared within seconds.

"Xiao meimei, I'm sorry for being a bit emotional. Please forget that I asked such a question. I must have been out of my mind. Well, see you around!" Lu Xinya hugged Fu Yixiao before she entered the elevator.

"Liling, cancel the trip to Z Royal School" Fu Yixiao tapped on Liling's shoulder. She further said "And call Tony and tell him to meet us in the secret chamber. Now."

Liling was still shocked with the sudden arrangement however her hands were already doing all the task given to her.

Fu Yixiao also made a phone call to a certain someone. The heat from the hugged earlier was like a net trapping her in an enigma. She needed to clear her befuddled mind and knew that there was only one person who may be able to give her the explanation she needed.
