39 I owed my life to you

Fu Yixiao trembled at the sight of his face, tears flooded her cheek. She remembered him, the boy that had saved her in the past. She knew him only for a few months but he left a deep impression on her. He was significant, an important existence to her.

"Brother Zhao." She called him and pressed both her palms on his cheeks. "You are alive. You are alive." She cried and pulled him to her embrace. They hugged for a long time before Fu Yixiao pulled her arms away and wipe her tears.

"This is insane. I feel insane." She muttered and then she heartily laughed. It was contagious because Wu Zhaoyi soon laughed along. Perhaps, they were finally relieved for the burden in their heart had been lifted. They were both had been given the chances to meet the person they wanted to meet the most.

"How?" She asked. Her eyes were staring gently at him. Wu Zhaoyi smiled as he held her hand. "I was given a second chance. It was my biggest regret to die in that fire and to let him took you away. If I wasn't such a weakling, you wouldn't suffer in his hand." Remorseful and guilty. That was what she felt coming from him but the way he recounted the event was incoherent to what she knew.

"What do you mean?" She asked absentmindedly. Wu Zhaoyi was tense, contemplating whether to tell her the truth that transpired on that night. "Liu Heng." He spoke after pondering for a couple of minutes. It wasn't the exact answer but knowing her, he knew she had made some conjectures. There was no need for further explanation. More, and they both would fall into the unending hollow of resentment.

Wu Zhaoyi sought comfort in her face for a burning rage was hissing through his body like a deathly poison, screeching to be released. It was inevitable, Liu Heng was a name he found hard to pronounce. He was the poison to both his and her life.

"I was a fool." He heard her self-criticizing and there was a brief outburst of laughter quickly brought under control. She slithered a flat smirk through crooked lips, a sign of disgust to herself and the man that had once sat on a throne resided in both her mind and soul.

There was a stillness in the room. No one talked for a long time for their mind was drifted in the entangled past. Truly fate had a sense of humor, in this life they finally realized how vulnerable they were in the past, one trusted the wrong person another crumbled by their own frailty.

"This is such a long night." Fu Yixiao broke the silence and yawned as she stretched her body waking the nerve that curled to a doze. She slapped Wu Zhaoyi's shoulder and stared in his eyes. Then, she finally saw it, the scar in his left eyebrow. Frowned formed in the delicate face of hers as she bent down and examine the scar.

Wu Zhaoyi was startled and went rigid, he was afraid to move, afraid that the moment he did, he couldn't hold his desire. Something he had been trying to surpass since he met her for the first time. Considering her young age, he wouldn't dare to lay a hand on her. She was precious to him but... she was just too tempting. Was she always like this? Wu Zhaoyi coughed and instantly stood up, leaving her hand hanging in the air.

"You... I've been meaning to ask this but how come you look exactly the same from the past. Your face was still that cold and expressionless boy I once knew minus the paleness which somehow made you looked handsome and manly. That isn't fair, I want my old face too." Fu Yixiao retreated and touched her face.

Wu Zhaoyi couldn't help but sneer at her complained. "Unlike you, I was born to this world. Guess I was lucky to have a similar face. Hmm, am I that handsome?" He was joking but the instant it left his mouth, Fu Yixiao had been laughing non-stopped. "Urghhh... my stomach hurt. If you know you are that handsome why had you been hiding your face?" She asked, massaging her cheek using her index fingers, softening the muscles that stiffened due to laughing too much.

"That was for my cover. Besides, there's no way I'll expose myself to you." He jeered, pinching her nose. Fu Yixiao grumbled due to the pain in her nose. She wanted to reciprocate but it finally dawned to her that she had been awake for too long. It was almost five in the morning. Thinking that tomorrow she needed to go to Z Royal School, she hesitantly rose from the sofa. Honestly, she preferred to sleep there, saving her much rest time.

Wu Zhaoyi noticed her tiredness and pulled her in his embrace. He wanted to lull her to sleep but the girl shrieked in shock as her eyes stared at him. "How old are you?" She asked. "Do you know we are no longer the same age? I'm barely fifteen and you are...much older than me." She did it again, staring at him in the way that made his heart flutter. However, he was to blame, he was careless.

"I'm twenty." He mumbled and distanced himself. "Let's go, you need to rest. About what we discussed today, I want you to be careful. Your life is threading on a thin line. A careless move and you'll fall on their track. Until we are sure of the truth, we should lay low. Understand?" He pressed his forehead to hers, a move that made him cursed in his heart. He was inept in surpassing his desire to touch her.

Fu Yixiao rubbed her forehead, the force was a bit strong it left a lasting impact on her forehead. However, she understood what he meant and assured him that she would be careful.

Besides, if she was to make a comparison then she was comparable to a baby who just started learning to crawl. Forcing herself to walk and run when she hadn't learned the basic was an imbecile move that may lead to a doomed consequence.

"Alright, time to go back to reality." She mumbled. She took a last glance on the dazzling and magnificent view from the transparent wall before she stepped into the elevator, leaving with a satisfying smile on her face.
