Rude Awakening

I was sitting in the car with Alec while the driver drove us to the venue of the meeting. The River Seine flowed peacefully to my right, its waters a sparkling blue under the bright Paris sun. As we traveled through the city I saw nothing but beauty and while the scenery in front of me could instill peace in even the most dire times, I couldn't help but feel empty inside. 

"If we secure this buyer then we can expand our business in all of France, Jordan. We have to make sure everything goes according to the plan." Alec continued talking but I was only paying half my mind to what he was saying. 

The other half was thinking about her. 

I knew she was upset and I knew that I was the reason behind it. There was nothing that I could do or say at this point that would make things go back to how they were before.
