4 The Healing

I lay my hands on his hard sculpted chest. Taking deep even breaths I clear my mind of everything except my intent to heal. Soon, my hands begin to emit a soft yellowish white glow. As my energy pours into this stranger, his body begins to warm to a normal temperature. I work on the biggest of his wounds first and then use bursts of energy to get his own body to heal the smallest of the wounds.

Hours later I lay my head on the bed, exhausted and barely able to move, but my work isn't done yet. The mans stomach wound is still really bad, but I've done all I can do for it. However, I learned a few years back that I have a special connection with the land here.

When I felt that connection with the Earth here I simply called her Mother. She takes care of me and I take care of her in return. When she is hurting I feel it and I go to whatever area I feel her pain in and do my best to fix it.

I remember when I awoke to hear her screams in my head and rushed out and seen that there were many trees on fire and animals were getting caught in it and dying. She was very distraught.

I put the fire out by manipulating the weather and making it storm. I healed as many animals as I could find and then when I was so exhausted I could barely go home she spoke to me for the first time. She told me to lie down in the dirt and cover myself in as much of it as possible while leaving my head exposed to breathe.

I did as I was told and she lent me some of her energy. She replenished some of what I had used to help her so that I wouldn't be defenseless. I felt the best I've ever felt in this life.

That was how our relationship started. I don't know why I heard her cries and I didn't expect her to help me in return, but that's how it's been for years now. I protect her and she protects me as well.

So I figure, since we have a relationship and help each other out, she will grant me this favor and finish healing the stranger I have in my home. However, to take him back outside I have to make sure whoever tried to kill him isn't still out there searching for him.

As I step outside, I expand my senses and ask Mother to help me. She blows my scent away from whoever is out there as I tense because not too far from my home I feel someone moving around. It's too late to retract the feel of my power but I tamp it down a lot so I'm not perceived as a threat. I keep walking, like I have business to attend to today.

I know where the enemy is at all times, so when I walk past the tree he's hiding behind I turn and look him in the eyes. Seemingly confused that I knew where he was, he steps out from behind the tree and looks at me intently.

"It's dangerous for a little lady such as yourself to be in the woods all alone," he says suspiciously.

"It's strange for a weirdo such as yourself to care about whether I'm alone or not," I reply in the same manner.

He looks me over head to toe and I narrow my eyes and growl at him, showing teeth. When I feel threatened my canines usually elongate and they're very sharp. I could shift into the form of any animal I please, but the easiest one for me to do is the wolf.

"Are you alone," he asks, sounding uncomfortable.

The way he asks is like he really doesn't want me to answer which confuses me. He wasn't going to get one anyway.

"Wouldn't you like to know," I reply walking away towards a plum tree I favor.

The enemy stands there, not used to being ignored. Usually people fear him, show him respect because of it. But this small female feels no fear around him and dismisses him so easily. Intrigued he follows her, knowing where she's going because he was there not too long ago searching for someone who used to be part of his team. Someone he used to call brother.

As the enemy follows me, I can hear some of his thoughts. I only hear them because he is so sad. Sad that he was ordered to kill Lucan.

'Lucan?' I think to myself. The mysterious stranger in my home must be this Lucan. Who ordered his death and why?

"Why am I being followed by a strange man," I ask out loud.

I stop walking and turn my head towards him, waiting for his answer. I have a haughty aura that I'm projecting around myself right now. I use it to my advantage, treating him like he's beneath me, in the hopes he'll leave me alone.

"You behave like a Royal," he says with his brows creased. "You don't really look like any Royal descendant of any kingdom I know of," he finishes questioningly.

"Of course I behave like a Royal," I say.

My reply just confuses him further and he scratches his head, unsure of himself. I sigh, obviously annoyed.

"Don't you have something to do besides follow me?" I ask him rudely.

As if on cue someone yells, "Conor!"

Now this man sounds like he's be the type to enjoy his task of trying to kill Lucan. As he comes towards us out of the tree line I mark his face in my mind. Blonde hair, strong jawline, almond shaped eyes the color of sand, and a seemingly permanent pinched look to his features.

"Well who the fuck is this," the man sneers.

'Your worst fucking nightmare if you don't leave me alone asshole,' I project my voice into his head.

He draws back with a sharp intake of breath. I realize too late that I probably shouldn't have done that. Both of these men are powerful, but this new one in front of me is cruel. He doesn't seem like one to let something like this go and I can tell from his reaction that he's old enough and powerful enough to stop the majority of people from getting into his mind.

"Who are you", he asks with so much venom and hatred in his eyes I start to get frightened.

"I just answered that question for you, I know you heard. Now, I'll be on my way." I respond as though I'm not affected at all.

I feel him move towards me to physically prevent me from leaving and I let my fire show in my eyes when I turn to look at him. My body temperature rises in response and I let it heat the air around us drastically.

"Do not make the mistake of putting your hands on me." I say.

Both men look shocked and uneasy. My voice was pitched perfectly for obedience and came out sounding otherworldly and powerful. I've never heard my voice sound that way, so it was unusual to me as well, but I've perfected the art of poker face.

As I walk away, I feel a new power swirling in the pit of my stomach. Quickly identifying it as the power to teleport, I call on it to take me home. As I disappear I take one last look at their shocked faces, knowing I'll see them again.
