5 Mother

I fall in front of my house right on my face. That's not too bad considering how I wasn't even sure I'd be at my house once I finished teleporting. Using a new power is always a risk, especially when you don't take your time to learn it and get a feel for it properly.

Even though those men are out there searching for Lucan, I know I can bring him out to heal. Those men are far enough away that they won't find us here, they're just too close for my comfort. I'm not worried though, Mother would warn me if they got too close and they wouldn't be able to see us with my magic in place anyway.

After dragging an unconscious Lucan outside and settling him into a shallow ditch, I start to cover him and his wounds in dirt. After I have him settled, I place my hands in the dirt near him and call to Mother.

'Hello daughter', I hear her say in my head. I smile at the sweet welcoming in her voice. The absolute tranquility that she provides makes my day.

'Mother' I reply lovingly. 'I have a favor to ask of you,' I tell her.

'I sensed as much from you, and I sense his need,' she tells me.

If she senses his need for healing then I must not have done as good a job as I thought. Frowning to myself, I wonder what I could've done differently to help him heal better.

'There is nothing more that you could've done daughter. Me feeling his need is through no fault of your own. Before I heal him, answer me this. Is he worthy?' She asks me.

Is he worthy? How am I to answer this question when I don't know this man? I could easily slip into his mind while he's unconscious and judge him based on what I find there, but that's a huge invasion of privacy and I don't want to do that. Is he worthy? Is he!?

Well I've done this much for him and introduced him to the soil I use to heal myself so I won't back out now. 'Yes. He is worthy,' I tell her.

'Very well. Stay and observe daughter, you are a much better healer than you think,' she tells me.

Six hours later Mother has finished healing Lucan and I am patiently waiting for him to wake up. I am tired of dragging this man all over the place, he is much too heavy!

While I wait the sun begins to set and I pout, wondering why Lucan isn't waking up. I know Mother did a perfect job healing him, but I also know injuries like he had takes a large toll on the body. It's been such a long time though, maybe he'll sleep until tomorrow?

Vigorously shaking my head I deny that thought. He has to wake up tonight, my back is killing me and my shoulders can't take much more lifting.

I settle down on a soft patch of grass near Lucans head and wait for him to awaken. As it gets dark I conjure up a soft yellow light and begin to play with it. Bored, I make shapes out of the light. From little flowers to horses running in circles around me, I orchestrate all of this with the twirl of my fingers and a smile on my lips. The soft breeze blows my hair out behind me and the glow from my light gives me such a peaceful appearance.

Lucan's POV

Slowly I become aware of my body and I wait expecting pain. When there is none my brows furrow in confusion.

Not knowing where I am, but feeling someone is near I do not open my eyes right away. I send a small feeler out through the ground to determine how many people are around me and to get a sense of how close they are.

Right behind my head I sense a woman. She is sitting so still that if I weren't so in tuned with my surroundings and I weren't trained so well, I wouldn't have felt the subtle shift in the air indicating movement.

The shift in the air is so slight that I can't help but wonder what the hell she's doing.

Slowly I open my eyes, careful to keep my movements unhurried so that they're less likely to be noticed. Looking up I see the stubborn woman who found me earlier. At first I thought she was playing with fire, as I thought that was her talent when her body heated up so much when she felt threatened.

But this is not fire, it doesn't burn anything or generate any heat. It doesn't flicker as if it's alive and it holds such a soft and mellow glow that it must only be light.

Looking at the woman I see she has the same gown from earlier on. The one that hugs her curves and kind of matches the color of my eyes. Her hair is down and it's very long. It looks as though it's made of silk and would feel just as soft between my fingers. Her eyes are closed and a pretty little smile plays on her lips.

As her light figures dance around her she hums softly to herself. 'What is she thinking about that gives her such peace and joy', I wonder? As if she heard my thoughts her eyes open and the light fades. Her face becomes serious and I'm a little disappointed to see her smile go.

Laraya's POV

'What is she thinking about that gives her such peace and joy?' I hear clearly in my head. Startled I open my eyes to find Lucan staring at me. His gaze is unnerving and it seems like he's trying to see into my soul.

Crossing my arms I narrow my eyes at him. "Well it's about time you've waken up you lazy bum. What would you have done if Connor and his buddy came looking for you here?" I ask him.

As if suddenly realizing where he was he tries to get out of the soil I buried him in. When he gets close to getting out I remember something, "STOP!", I yell.

Lucan stops mid crouch and raises a brow at me, waiting for an explanation. "You're naked", I pretend whisper.

He doesn't give an external reaction like I thought he would, nor does he accuse me of being any type of sexual predator. 'And he better not!' I think haughtily.

"What's the problem with getting up if you've seen it all anyway?" He asks me seriously.

What! Seen it all? "I've seen nothing! I had you covered in a sheet the whole time!" I tell him.

"So where is the sheet now?" He inquirers.

"It's around there somewhere! You can't just dig yourself up and not cover up.

Find it!" I tell him.

I swear I see him smirk in response and I blush in embarrassment. He must be old if he's so perfectly fine standing around naked. Around a stranger at that!

I stand, dusting off my dress as I get up. "So, you never answered my question. What would you have done if Connor and his buddy came here at got me? And you as well for that matter," I add.
