1 Log 1-Beginning

[AN (Authur's Note)]

[A one-shot of an SCP-fanatic with little to no knowledge of the Nasuverse thrust into Nasuverse. What can go wrong?]

....

...

At least once in a person's life, we fantasize about the image of ourselves that will be passed down for eternity.

But most of the time, it ends up as a fantasy due to financial problems, or simply, a lack of ability.

Of course, that is to be expected. It is anything but easy to achieve something that will leave a significant mark on future generations.

Most people give up and laugh at how absurd the very idea is. But it was slightly different for me.

You see, I had a little bit of knowledge and the power to uphold it.

It was the memory of my previous life when I was a human from the 21st century and the ability of 'Preservation' that I received when I was reincarnated.

Well, come to think of it, it was quite a cliche.

A normal guy who was a subculture-loving citizen and died young gets reincarnated into some isekai phantasy world.

Then, by some higher being's whim, he was given a cheat ability and sent to a lower world of said higher being's creation.

The ability for 'Preservation' that was given to me was surprisingly easy to use. I used this ability -which keeps the state of things I touch in the exact same state as when I touched them- on myself and continued to wander around this new world.

I was curious and I had, quite literally, all the time in the world.

Let me start with the conclusion. First of all, human beings have not yet even evolved yet in this world.

In other words, it was prehistoric.

This planet was a place where a wide variety of dinosaurs still roamed the earth. Not a single intelligent being could be found.

If this situation had remained as a status quo, I would have cursed the higher beings from the bottom of my heart for all eternity.

It would have been hell to have to simply wait for hundreds of thousands of years until something vaguely resembling a civilization could be born and developed while trying NOT to become a chew toy for a starving T-rex.

However, it seemed that my fears were unfounded.

There is...for the lack of better words...something 'supernatural' in this world.

I didn't know whether to call it witchcraft, magic, or simply a miracle, but there were things in this world that were unthinkable in my previous life.

I saw many, many things.

I saw the very mountains suddenly rise up and sink into the barren earth, engulfing everything around it with earthquakes that overturned the seas-and if I am not mistaken, with a humungous eye peeking out from its crevices.

I saw a majestic dragon, soaring through the raging skies, roaring with its giant wings flapping, asserting with every fiber of its being that this world was his, showing the world that he was the ultimate monarch of the wilderness.

It seemed that there would never be a dull moment in this world, and I was right.

With my ability 'Preservation', I will be able to enjoy and explore this world to the fullest. There seemed to be no shortage of ways to pass the time until human beings were born.

Oh, how naive I was!

As long as I had this 'preservation' of mine, I thought I was invincible.

My arrogance led me to overconfidence, and overconfidence led me to one single realization.

I was not untouchable.

Yes, no one could hurt me and I had neither hunger nor fatigue. I was in the exact same state as I was when I came into this world.

But that was far from me being invincible.

It was exactly because my body was never injured, it could never be trained, and thus, I will always remain a powerless human.

The place where I was reincarnated seems to be close to a fissure of a continental plate, and there had been numerous earthquakes in the past hundred years.

At first, I had the luxury to enjoy this extraordinary lifestyle, but that was not the case after I was buried alive by a landslide caused by said earthquakes.

My body could not move at all. This powerless body could not even twitch.

I spent roughly several centuries in the deep, dark earth, praying for some external factor to liberate me. It was truly a hellish time.

My 'Preservation' seemed to work on my own mental state, and I couldn't even go insane.

Eventually, I succeeded in getting out of that living hell thanks to the shockwaves caused by some giant dragon who had slammed its tail into the ground nearby.

I have learned much. I have learned that I am helpless and that even if I gain some abilities, it won't change the fact that I'm vulnerable.

I decided to live in a cave to shield myself from the dangers outside.

A few hundred years of living underground helped me realize that my memory would never suffer any form of deterioration or damage.

I could perfectly recall the contents of books, mangas, and even animes that I had probably seen before I was reborn.

However, that was the problem. No matter how many times I ruminate over what I have seen or read in my mind, there was nothing enjoyable about it.

Then I thought to myself. If I were to create my own safe haven, why not do something worthwhile with it?

Before my death, I was addicted to a certain form of fiction, and that was the SCP Foundation.

The SCP Foundation.

It started out as a game called 'Creepypasta' on an online bulletin board, where people would add their favorite settings and various worldviews to certain images, one that developed into a full-blown story about a secret organization whose main objective was to preserve the 'Normalcy of Humanity'.

A world that continues to fascinate many people to the modern day.

I wanted to recreate the fascinating objects that appear in it, the SCP Foundation. And if possible, I wished for it to remain for posterity through my power of 'Preservation', to capture the wonders of this world, and to, well, impress people.

I wanted to be the one who lives in the shadows to serve the light.

I wanted to leave my mark on humanity.

From then on, I moved fast.

I spent several years remodeling the inside of my cave into a workshop and solved my only concern on 'how to make the object anomalous' by devouring the writhing flesh of said giant dragon that had been dying in the cave's vicinity -the same dragon that covered the skies and shook the earth-, as it was a free meal/experiment material.

I even released Preservation for a while, after countless futile attempts at self-experimentation. That continued for roughly a hundred years.

At one point, I noticed that I gained powers. Incredible, unfathomable, incomprehensible, world-bending powers.

To honor the sheer arcane powers it carried and the fact it made my dreams a reality, I named the dragon SCP-Prototype: Tiamat.

Having acquired another superpower that was, according to the Foundation's terminology; 'the ability to alter reality', I started to create.

I caught reptiles and played around with their biological capabilities and gave them immortality and an unnatural degree of evolvability.

I made sculptures that snaps a living form's neck when said living form takes their eyes off it.

I molded 'something' that can never remain as a 'memory' (Yes, even mine. I forget what it is, what it was, and what it could be. I do remember that it was not round, though).

I've kept creating for thousands of years...or was it tens of thousands of years? Maybe even more. It mattered not.

But somewhere around the point where I had created over perhaps 6,000 objects, I suddenly realized I had become, in the truest sense, an Apocalypse-level SCP myself.

Many of the objects I had created were clearly harmful to the future of the human race.

If they were to remain, an organization such as the SCP foundation would be formed without my help and the objects I created would be forever hidden from the eyes of the public.

That was not my intention. This activity of mine is a missionary activity of the SCP Foundation from the past to the future, and it is crucial that its contents are known to as many as possible.

And as a fan of the SCP Foundation, it would be horrifying if the masterpieces that I have recreated through trial and error -creations that are the result of the exceptional ideas of people from the past- were hidden away.

However, it is also out of the question to erase them.

The solution was fairly simple; the SCPs should be separated and sealed away.

The relatively harmless ones should be made so that even ordinary people in future generations will be able to recognize their existence.

And the harmful ones should be kept in a place where only those who are capable of handling them can enter.

That was why I decided to build a facility to house abnormal beings. The true containment cells of the SCP foundation.

I dug a hole in the cave where I lived and created an underground base several thousand feet beneath the surface. I spent several hundred years doing just this.

From there, I built a containment cell for each object, the equipment for an imaginary task force, and the meeting room for the O5 council (I designed it in a SF-like futuristic style). It cost me several thousand years.

Of course, I also put the accompanying reports in front of each cell. I ensured in every possible measure that my grand missionary work would not go unnoticed.

I selected relatively harmless SCPs from among the objects I had recreated and began my journey of scattering them around the world.

By this time, the dwellers of the earth had already ceased to be dinosaurs (or dragons) due to the fall of a certain cataclysmic meteorite.

Though none of that mattered to me. After a journey that took another several thousand years, I succeeded in scattering SCP objects all over the globe.

Of course, I remembered to keep a report (which I engraved onto a great stone slab) nearby.

All of my creations had gone through 'Preservation', so they will definitely be preserved for posterity.

And having circumnavigated the globe over the span of several thousand years, I had at last returned to my first cave.

It was still the same as when I left it; an absurdly giant facility that extended for several kilometers underground.

I decided to put my finishing touches on it, my first workshop where I had lived for tens of thousands of years. I decided to inscribe a sentence there.

Numerous reports I had left around the globe already indicated the existence of the SCP foundation. So, I decided to leave irrefutable proof of the organization's history.

With this last documentation inscribed unto the world, I'll be satisfied. I will then release myself from the 'Preservation' I had put on myself and...

At last, rest.

...Let's begin with this sentence.

"Humanity has lived a quarter of a million years so far. But of that history, only the last 4,000 years are worth mentioning. ────"

Those who live in the world of magecraft and those who do not even know a shred of mystery all have one thing in common.

The word 'Foundation' struck awe in the heart of anyone who heard of it.

The Foundation.

The Protector of the Planet.

Ancient beings that have been hinted at in records left by various civilizations around the world. Whether they were human beings or not is unclear, but they are all described as 'beings who devoted themselves to protecting the innocent from the great unknown'.

With the documentation on its own, they would have been regarded as a kind of myth or anecdote widely distributed around the world.

However, 'anomalous beings' that were scattered around the world denied that the legends were born from fiction.

A piece of paper on which a drawn man can move around and communicate.

A ball that continues to multiply and burst.

A stone face that changes its expression according to the emotions of the surrounding people...the list is endless.

Discovered in various parts of the world, or inherited as sacred artifacts from ancient times, they had given rise to a common understanding that there are things in the world that cannot be understood by mere science.

Before elementary students even learn about the primitive man in their history classes, they learn about the 'Foundation', a super-prehistoric civilization that existed long ago.

The Foundation was a name that was not only revered but also greatly feared by the mages who strove to explore the mysteries of the world.

To think something was capable of constructing an unearthly prison built deep underground...!

How large was the 'Foundation' that housed beings that could not be understood by magic or science, a civilization that could contain abnormalities even demigods would tremble in fear at sight? To not only seal them but also managed to bequeath their control through the long passage of time?

Who was the 'administrator', the one who was said to have united them as the founder? And why, and how did such a powerful civilization disappear without a trace?

Mages and scientists today continue to pursue the traces of the Foundation; in awe of the actions that were said to have protected mankind, and in awe of the seemingly invincible forces that were able to accomplish this.

To this day, the Foundation still remains a mystery.
