Chapter 6

It's been a week since Null began living a normal life and it has been uneventful. When he was back at the lab, he was put to sleep by 10 pm and awoken by 4 am. The first thing he would do in the morning was always a quick strength and speed test. That would go on for two hours. If something went wrong, he would be punished throughout the day. They would do something that he could not physically handle.

But if he did well then the rest of the day went with breakfast, education, and several experiments and tests were run on him, if he were lucky the experiments wouldn't leave him immobilized, he would continue with more harsh training, dinner, and bed.

He's not the only child who underwent this harsh routine. A total of seven hundred children went through this from birth till now. However, only thirty-five of them survived with him coming out as the overall best.

The perfect soldier for war with and without a V.P.

But now that he's being asked to live a normal life he is unsure of what to do. Aside from war, what else is there to do?

Liam is back at military school. He resumed quite quickly but promised to answer whatever text Null gave him in case he had questions he couldn't ask from Hannah.

Hannah has introduced him to videos of people doing various things for fun. None of it caught his interest. He decided to pick one just to keep himself busy.

He stood before Hannah showing her a video of someone drawing and he pointed to it. Hannah nearly jumps in excitement. "Don't worry, I'll get you everything you need," she said taking her phone and leaving the Null alone in the apartment.

When she came back, she returned pushing a large canvas with a variety of paints, brushes, and pencils. "I'm back," she said. Null was in the living room. He hadn't left the spot he was standing when she left him alone.

"Here you go," she said handing everything over to him. He collected them, nodded, and went back to his room.

Hannah smiled happily while Null went to his room. 'I wonder what he's going to draw,' she thought.

When Null got to his room he put up the large canvas against the wall. He looks at it emotionlessly and wonders what to do now that he has gotten what he wants.

He finally decided on what to draw and got to it.

The next day...

Null hadn't come out of his room at all, he didn't even come out for dinner the night before and it worried Hannah a lot. She went to his room opened the door and saw Null standing on a chair with a palette and a paintbrush in his hand. He turns to her blankly.

She walked to him and stood next to him seeing what he was painting. She was in a bit of awe. Although he wasn't done, she could tell what he was painting. He was painting his berserk mode.

In the painting he was looking up, he looked at peace despite his eyes having no light in them. he was standing over a calm clear blue lake with clear blue skies.

It was a beautiful sight. But on the other side of the picture, he was still painting that. "Wow, you did this in a few hours?" she said in amazement.

He ignores her and continues painting. 'Is this how he feels?' she thought smiling happily. 'Does he feel at peace at last?'

She smiles and leaves the room. She's going to wait for him to come out and tell her when it is done. She remembers something and then turned around. "By the way, you haven't had anything since yesterday, don't you want anything?" she said.

Null turns to look at her. She nodded. "Okay, I'll get you some snacks then," she said then left.

When she returned with some snacks she had gotten from a grocery store. She spent a long time choosing between making a meal or getting some snacks. She was gone for only an hour, but when she entered Null's room she saw him sitting on the bed looking at what he had painted.

"Are you done already?" she said walking in with the bag. When she saw the remaining half of the painting she dropped the bag on the ground.

The other side was a battlefield field with blood and death, he was no longer looking up, instead, he was looking down at the people he had just killed emotionlessly. His face and hand were covered in blood.

She didn't understand this painting. "Are you trying to paint out there's always a war in your head?" she asked.

Null shook his head. "That's not what it means?" Hannah said in surprise.

Null writes on a notepad she had bought for him so they could communicate. 'It has no meaning,' he wrote in reply. 'Peace and chaos have no meaning to me, it is the same either way. That is why there is no meaning to this painting.'

"Don't say that!" Hannah said angrily. "You are not a weapon, you are... you are breathing and living, and you have a soul as well," she said then fell to her knees as she cried. "When are you going to understand that?"

Null just stares at her unable to understand how she feels. Not a single emotion shimmered in those eyes.

"I will not give up, I'm going to make you understand," she said with determination.

Null was taking a picture of his art piece, planning on sending it to his new friend. He looks at her, then simply shrugs as if telling her, 'I don't care, do whatever you want.'

Liam was in the middle of a fight when Null's text came in. He ended it quickly when he heard his phone's notification sound.

He takes out his phone from his pocket and sees the photo Null had sent him. It was a painting. He recognizes it as Null. He leaves the training room while the medic attends to the injured person.

"Liam," a flirtatious girl's voice said walking to him. Liam doesn't look at the girl. He simply dodges her hug, all while still looking at the picture.

"It's a beautiful painting," the girl said looking over his shoulder. "The enjoyment of peace and the despair of war. I can buy it if you want," she said, then she saw the name Liam had saved Null's name. 'Sunshine☀'

"There is no need for that," Liam said turning off his phone before she could say any other thing, then looked up to look at the girl.

Vera McCollin, the daughter of Colonel and one of the few people who were classified under score-S. Her V.P. allows her to turn kinetic energy into dangerous energy blasts. It was quite easy to defeat her and she bored him quite a lot, especially with her persistent attitude.

When he leaves he checks out the painting again. 'Did you paint this yourself?' he texted him.

'Yes.' Null replies.

Liam looks at the painting. The eyes are usually easy to ignore and you can just enjoy the rest of the painting. However, if it is Null the eyes aren't meant to be ignored. In war, his eyes were emotionless and unfeeling, and in peace, he still was the very same.

"This picture means nothing," he said, then smiled. "Such a beautiful picture yet it means nothing," he said. "It is just missing a ray of sunshine, don't you think?"
