12 The Closed Door

"What is that?"

William and Yakov quickly rushed out of the room and dashed to the stairways. In a few seconds time, they managed to reach the third floor.

Yakov's eyes widened when he saw a giant near the previously closed door. "What in the hell is that thing?"

There was a giant around 2 meters tall standing in front of the door. He was clenching the previously escaping young master with his large hand. Even though he still had the basic appearance of human, the outer layer of his skin had changed color. the previously orange cream color that signified healthy human had now changed into white bluish color.

There was still the same crazed look in his eyes, but the change in his skin made him looked different from normal human. It was as if they were no longer looking at normal Xermo anymore.

"Mutation?" William asked as he raised his gun.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Yakov looked with ashen face. The young master in front of them was crushed by the Xermo's hand as if destroying a soft watermelon. The bullets that was supposed to be capable of killing normal Xermo in one hit barely grazed its skin.

Roar!

The Xermo let out a strange roar before it tossed the young master to the side. With his head shattered, the young master had certainly died at this point of time. The Xermo also didn't seem to have any interest in the young master anymore as it dashed to William and Yakov's direction.

Bam!

The two of them evaded in time, but the door was completely destroyed. Not only that, the walls around the door was also in battered shape because the Xermo broke through the wall with brute force.

William gritted his teeth and raised his gun once more.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

He tried to aim at various location of the Xermo's body, but found out that it was hard to even hit anywhere. The tough new layer of skin from the Xermo rendered all attacks directed to it completely useless.

"EYES!" Yakov shouted.

BANG! BANG!

Human's weakest spot would always be the eyes. Thankfully, Yakov was correct as the two eyeballs exploded after getting hit by the bullets shot by Yakov. Once more, it sent the Xermo into a frenzy.

Roar!

The two of them quickly rapidly shoot the Xermo before them without paying any heed to anything else. By this time, the two of them had already realized that they couldn't do anything but to focus their attention to the Xermo and hit him with as many bullets as possible.

Neither one of them knew how many bullets they used up when the large Xermo tripped on the stairs. William aimed his gun at the back of the Xermo's head.

Bang!

The head exploded.

At this time, the Xermo finally stopped moving. Its large body fell down to the front and hit the railings. It no longer moved as the headless body lied on an awkward angle in the stairway.

Yakov immediately stopped firing and looked at the wound on the Xermo's body. His eyes narrowed as he looked at William. "The weakness is at the back of his head?"

"Apparently so."

William wiped his sweat and checked the Xermo. Only after confirming that it had died did he start walking to the previously closed door. Looking inside the room, he could see that it was filled with bones. There were still some traces of flesh and blood here and there, but it was clear that the people here were 'eaten.'

He glanced at the window and noticed that the window had shattered. The location where it shattered was exactly at the north where it was connected to the mall. It seemed that William was not the only one who thought of using the window as transportation method.

The Xermo was also the same.

They jumped off the buildings to the other side and then ravaged the people here.

"What a mess," Yakov commented.

"They must have a party here when a Xermo barged in," William replied with a calm tone. He glanced at the large Xermo that he had killed. "If more Xermo are like that, there's a high chance that we're not going to survive."

Yakov nodded gravely. Their power was severely lacking compared to Xermo like that. However, what were they supposed to do? It was not like they could use the virus to strengthen themselves, right? What if they were wrong and the mutation instead turned them into Xermo?

It would be very disastrous.

"It would be for the best if we can find a living researcher that we can trust," William remarked.

"You…."

"What?"

Yakov looked at his best friend then sighed. "Whatever. If you truly wished to turn into a monster, I will not stop you."

Hearing that, William merely smiled. To be able to face these monster Xermo, one had to be a monster, right? He didn't think that ordinary people would even had the chance to defeat them.

Prang!

The sound of glass breaking alarmed them.

"It's the fourth floor."

"Again?"
