18 Mutation

Mutation.

Talking about mutation would make people think of two things. One was the bad mutation that could occur due to radiation and the other one was the exceptional mutation like what people saw in the superhero movies. Of course, if the one who was speaking were adults, they would tend to think of the first one.

There were already several incidents in the world that caused radiations to spread and killed a lot of people. All of them caused bad mutation and also sickness such as cancer because of the horrendous effect. Not a single one of them ever gained superpower like what the television showed.

Of course, it was all because the medical world also told them that it was highly impossible.

But what they saw just now completely overturned their knowledge. The man that they faced, even though it was only for a short period of time, was someone who had his body changed. His speed had far surpassed what ordinary people could possibly achieve in his entire life.

It must be mutation.

The man was exposed to one of the few viruses several powerhouses in the world had created. Or perhaps more than one? They didn't know. But the viruses didn't end up making him sick like what was expected and instead turned that man into a mutated person with ability far beyond what ordinary human could possibly reach.

Both William and Yakov couldn't possibly calm down so quickly after seeing that. They were certain that whatever it was, it was not ordinary. If only they could also get that kind of mutation, they would certainly grow much stronger.

"Turn this way," William pointed to the right.

It would be better for them to avoid the main route in case they would encounter the boss's men again. There were still some of them hiding in the darkness, and William didn't know how many of them had actually changed like the boss.

If there were several of them, they might not be able to defeat them.

Yakov steered the wheel then checked the gas. He furrowed his brows. "Will, we're going to run out of fuel soon."

William frowned. He glanced around before his gaze stopped on the rows of tall houses. There were several of the houses that was quite tall and would be perfect for a hiding place for a short period of time.

It was not ideal, but there should be some cars in this area that had fuel inside their tank. They only needed some hose to take the fuel and moved it to this car.

"Head there. We can get fuel by taking from other cars."

"Got it."

Yakov drove the car to the place that William picked. He glanced around and couldn't see anyone but dead bodies on the street. It seemed that this place was not spared by the Xermo who managed to run away.

William jumped down and walked to the back of the car. He could see Gloria sitting on top of the boxes while holding the gun in her hand. She raised her head when she heard movements.

"Can you walk?" William asked.

Gloria took a deep breath and slowly nodded her head.

"Come out. We'll stay in this house for the time being." William beckoned for her to follow him out.

Slowly but surely, Gloria walked out of the car. She looked around and noticed that they were still in the residential areas. However, there was no longer any sign of the people who attacked them from before.

Just as William was about to instruct them to get into the house, they heard faint movement.

"Who's there?"

"Whoa…"

The three of them could see a middle aged man standing not far from them. He looked like he was in the middle of forties with lots of white hair on his head. His clothes looked like a normal worker that one could find anywhere. At the same time, he was holding a binocular in his right hand.

"Who are you?" William asked as he scrutinized the middle aged man before him.

The middle aged man smiled. "My name is Rozan. I'm a normal architect and mechanic. I lived next door."

Yakov was still holding his gun towards Rozan. They couldn't possibly trust a stranger so easily like that. Even though Rozan did look normal, they didn't want to take the risk after seeing what happened with the boss of that group before them.

"Don't be that impolite, youngsters. I'm not trying to harm you," Rozan said with a smile. His row of white teeth was visible as he smiled broadly.

"You were watching?" William asked.

Rozan looked at the binocular in his hand and nodded. "I'm amazed that you can finish that gang's leader so easily, but he's not the only one who's showing strange strength for the past day."

Strange strength!

The phrase directly attracted William and Yakov. How could they not be interested when they certainly saw someone grew stronger so quickly like that? If only it was possible, everyone would certainly want to grow much stronger.

"Do you know about them?" William decided to ask.

Rozan shook his head. "I'm only a normal watcher. Also, you might want to get inside before they patrolled and found your conspicuous military car."

Looking at the car, William had to admit that it was very conspicuous. Even though it was also much stronger than normal cars since it could travel in harsh terrain, it would be a bit hard to keep.

"Shall we head to my home?"

William thought for a moment then nodded his head. "Bring all the equipment, Yakov."

"Got it."
